Why did Deutschland win this WC? Here's my take...
1) One of the best goalies..Nuer
2) One of the best outside defenders...Lahm
3) Multiple players who could finish...Klose, Moeller, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Ozil, Gotze
4) Multiple players who could create chances
5) When defending, no other team "shortened" the field better on their opponents
6) No other team expanded the field better when they were on offense
7) They could play possession as well as counter attack

I agree TT. I'd add Schuller and Khedira to players who can finish. Not having Khedira out there today hurt the Germans. Depth would be another reason they won it all, when Podolski rarely gets to play, you know you have a strong team. Marco Reus would have added a huge offensive threat and am bummed for him that his injury kept him from holding the trophy.
Anyone not think Messi should have been named the Golden Ball winner? I am back and forth, on one hand I was happy he won something and the look on his face showed he is in it for his team, not himself. On the other hand I think many of the Germans deserved it or the Golden Boot winner James did.

I don't know, Wayne Rooney booted a fair few. Did anybody play better than
Messi? Probably not. Pretty sure that trophy won't hold pride of place
on his mantle, if it even sees the light of day in his house.

ESPN just counted down the top 10 goals of the tournament. They gave James Rodriguez goal in the 28 min vs Uruguay as the #1 goal of the WC

A very pretty winning goal. Now, wouldn't you like to see a two of three final?

TT, I think Tim Cahill's was a far better goal, but who's counting? ;-)
I might even be tempted to place Higuain's volley above James'.
I think we need to form a support group now to deal with the post partum depression, n'est ce pas?

I think Cahill's was #3; van Persie's vs Spain was #2; # 4 was Gotze's today & #5 was one of Messi's goals. I don't think Higuain's made the top 10....according to ESPN
I thought Rodriguez's goal was impressive given that he was ~10 yards beyond the 18 yd line

My top five.
#5 Van Persie's header
#4 above mentioned Rodriguez goal
#3 Julian Green's volley from a ball coming in from behind him.
#2 Cahill's volley.
#1 Gotze, that was a beautiful goal and by far the most meaningful of the whole tourney.

I thought Jermain Jones strike from distance against Portugal was pretty sweet too.

Gotze's was close to the best, and certainly the most meaningful, so that gets my #1 vote.
And no way Messi should have gotten the Golden Ball. I'm certainly a fan of his, but he wasn't even the best player on the Argentine team the last couple games(Mascherano). I'd have put Robben, Rodriguez and Neuer at least above Messi.

A little late, but here we go:
Congrats to Germany. Gold as deserved...
And thanks to Argentina who fought bravely.

Apparently they're still fighting 'bravely', on the streets of Buenos Aires.

Argentina is a complex country that I don't know much about. I guess Maradona is just one of the symptoms.
Anyhow the Argentinian team played very well.

Yeah they did, they were only behind in the whole tournament for 7 minutes (the last 7 minutes). That is a crazy stat and I expected Germany to walk all over them. I was way off.
