Really nice cool morning at Stoney Point. Saw a few young guns I have not seen in a while.

Stoney point is great, however, recently I had a bad experience.
On Sunday, July 24, three car windows were broken: two on a prius and one on a forerunner. Nothing was stolen, just smash and run vandalism. This happened around 9 am in the morning. The cars were parked early so they were close to the top of the parking area along Topanga Canyon Blvd. There were a fair number of climbers out and around, but apparently nobody saw anything.
I reported the incident with my truck to the police, but they didn't seem to be helpful. Oh, they did tell me that there is less police staff on the weekends, so if you're going to the point, during the week may give you better coverage ;-)

Lots of action at Stoney this evening. Two kids got stuck, halfway up S Crack (5.3) on the front wall, just in time for the 8 o'clock news! Probably a dozen or more emergency vehicles parked on the street, plus a bunch of news choppers and LAFD helo above...
Doesn't slow down the climbers though...

Why didn't someone just go up there and talk them down?
Oh well, it gave the authorities and news media something to do.
Going out for my summer thursday night clock-wise circuit tomorrow.

Holy sh#t - "The response included 68 personnel, two department helicopters and a USAR team." http://www.firehouse.com/news/top-headlines/los-angeles-crews-rescue-teens-cliff
2 helicopters and 68 rescuers? WTF that is embarsing. And people wonder why rescues cost so much. Im sure anyone on here could have rescued those kids and would have been happy with a 12 pack.
At least this website only said 200 ft tall instead of 300. And called them hikers and not climbers.

We were trapped till 10pm by the double parked emergency vehicles.
I always thought Stoney was about 500 feet tall.

reminds me of an incident some years back when a noob gal hopped from one boulder to another at stoney, heard something go "crack" around her ankle, and decided it would be prudent not to move. this resulted in firetrucks, firemen galore, and a helicopter rescue. it made the l.a. times--always a slow news day for them.
