shooting images at such occasions always seem a bit of an intrusion to the other people there, though for the most part no one seemed to care too much.

Also, it is a distraction from what is going on, when you're thinking making images you aren't thinking about the matter at hand, in this case, John's life. At some point, the images start to make sense and the process becomes less distracting.

Here are some that I took on my old camera, B&W film (Fuji Neopan 1600) mostly with my 50 mm f1.4 lens on the Nikon FM2N body, old school... the lens was mostly closed down to its minimum aperture, f22. There was a lot of light, probably too much...

Quite the gathering ... thanks to everyone involved for putting together a wonderful send-off for John, and for sharing pictures and thoughts from that day.

I went up to the Dike Wall early Tuesday morning. Sobering. Beautiful Sierra granite above Lake George. It was good to just sit there for a while in the sun and breeze, thinking about my own close calls and friends who've passed and the connections we have, the tribal legends and rituals we share.

It's an honor to be a part of this community.

It was a moving & fitting tribute to one of climbing's more colorful characters. John's influence will be felt long after his demise.

Lots of great folks there. I was glad to be able to attend, despite the fact it took place on a Monday.

Hey Chris Mac,
How bout just making this "the" permanent, default thread, sitting at the top of page one, never to to be removed or deleated but forever cherished and not forgotten?

Thanks everyone for sharing. All of us are affected, even us "nobody specials". I have to go cry some more.

Still coming down, even two days later, from such a profoundly moving experience and tribute to a fallen hero. Because I was down by the lakeshore, I didn't get to photograph the principals as they testified; however, I did snap a few up on the deck earlier.

Thanks to everyone that was there for sharing this momuntus event for those of us who couldn't make it. It sets in stone that John truly was a great man. It's amazing how someone who to some extent stood alone, has brought so many together.

largo,
As usual you always put into words so easy for all to cherish...
It was such an emotional and powerful day. Tyrus carried on with the control that runs in the bachar bloodline. It was an honor to be there for one who has done so much for my life and my dreams.

Rick- you never cease to amaze me and your calming demeanor kept me in awe all day long. Thanks for letting me attempt to speak the words that i feel for John.

to the Stone Masters- Along with JB, you too have moved, touch and affected so many lives over the years and what i tried to say but could not through too many tears is thank you for showing me how to climb, how to live and how to dream. All that i am and all that i have climbed is a direct result of "letting the KID tag along" all those years!!!!

I will miss John very much and will do my best to keep the flame alive!!!

Hey all, thanks for all the pictures.

It was good to see pictures of all the friends I have in California.

Looks like you gave John a good send off.

All the best,

Dan Michael sometimes from Colorado and other times Cali.
