wish i could say i have, j. i see the steam from it every time i drive 395. if you stop at the coso rest area, you will find honorable mention of the good old days when the public actually got to enjoy its own land. (that was shortly after we had taken it away from the indians.)
for once, i have to agree with largo here:
For a potentially hot subject, this is a surprisingly cold and benign thread.

This must be the same one, You are looking east in the photo right? I somehow missed that tank. We were there June of '10 and things were dry. I did not stop by when I camped in Nevada for a week last summer. But I did ski in the mountains you see in the background in very late June.

That pool that Prod's in has a cool cave. You have to swim underwater for a few feet until it opens up enough for you to stand up. It's a pretty tight fit getting through to the cave.

Nice springs everyone.
I'm working on some Idaho spring photos.
This is Shower Bath hot springs on the Middle Fork Salmon.
One of the best showers around. It is a little tricky to get there when a bunch of river runners are not cavorting in the shower, or the shallow pools above it.

What's that bitchin' one about 30 minutes north of Sun Valley? It has been
so long I forgot the name. It was right in a cow pasture but the rancher
was always cool if you were. Probably not the same now but it was sure
nice in the 70's. I know I have pics somewhere <eye roll>.

that little pool with the snorkel looks like Bartine, near eureka. not very hot, totally trashed by cattle.

Reilly: Re-----your question about the little hot spring 30 minutes north of Sun Valley.
There is a small and luke-hot soak hole above an old Forest Service Guard-Station about 15 miles north of Ketchum/Sun Valley. It is a max two person spot. It gets a lot of local traffic. Nearby & developed: Easley Hot Springs is a nice stop in the summer.
One winter in the late 70's, a buddy and I skied into Easley stoned, on a dark & moonless night. We figured there was a caretaker around, so we were real sneaky.
We smoked a little more when we got to the concrete pool, and jumped in.
After a while paddling around in the dark, I encountered something floating-----large, slimy, & alive. Pushed it away and tried to ignore it. We finally figured out a large toad had been paddling around the pool for the winter.

You got it. It was not too bad (cow shiit) this summer nice place while driving across Nevada on warm day. Stopped for lunch and a beer, warm but no people. Not great but worth a stop.

Hot Springs Honeymoon.
When Heidi & I “got-hitched” in 1988, we had a two-part honeymoon.
My part was a horse supported camp-out in Idaho’s Frank Church Wilderness, at my favorite Hot Springs.
Her part was a road-trip to Alberta & the Canadian Rockies.
We had a horse-packer take in folding chairs, goodies, & ice to the remote Idaho hot springs, and we settled in for 5 days of fishing, hiking, and hot spring fun.
After two-days, Heidi started working on a new soaking place, where very hot water tumbled off a cliff into the cold stream water. She moved a ton or so of rock while I went fishing for most of a day, and then the next day, I helped her move another ton or so.
We ended up with a very-pleasant soaking spot, with just a few “hot & cold running surprises.”
I was pretty happy with our labors, since I could even soak & fish at the same time.
It was our creation, and we never thought about it being invaded & exploited.
The following spring, we were both doing product clinics in an outdoor store in Boise, and while Heidi talked about the merits of her footwear line, I browsed their selection of new outdoor books.
I discovered a new book on hot springs of the Northwest, and decided to see what they listed for Idaho hot springs.
Suddenly, I nearly choked.
There was a photo of our newly- created soaking pool and a glowing description praising it as one of the best in the state.
I then did a double-take of the book’s cover, and our creation was the cover-photo.
I’ve trudged back into the area a few more times in the years since, and have been wounded at how many people have visited, and trashed the place.
Scummy tarps, trash, bars of soap, and new trails have degraded the pristine wilderness.
I hate us!
The only real joy in visiting: is in noting our soaking pool is gone.
We created it in late August of a low-water year, and the people writing the book must have stumbled on it soon thereafter.
The pool is submerged in cold-creek water in any normal year.

Some good ones in Idaho (sorry no photos, see google images)
Jerry Johnson Hot Springs - Way up the Clearwater. Had a great mid-winter trip there with the high school gang.
Brundage Mtn area hot springs - Off highway 95 between McCall & New Meadows. Plenty of good skiing nearby.
Burgdorf Hot Springs - In the middle of nowhere NE of McCall. Hitchhiked there once. That's a story.

Fritz,
This was not a small lukewarm two person hole. It was a large backyard
style swimming pool and more than warm. It was also pristinely clean - in
a word - magnifique! Since it was on private property I suppose it got closed.
I was priviliged to visit it twice.

Reilly: Sounds like it is the one by Obsidian, near the headwaters of the Salmon River. It is certainly on a ranch. Last time I was there, in the early 70's, it was a very large stock tank. I heard the property had been improved, and made private.
It would have a great view of the East side of the Sawtooths.
Here's a picture (I think) of it back in the mid-70's that I found on the Wilderness Ventures website.

Yeah, that looks like it! On the map there is a hot spring at Warm Creek
about 6 miles south of Obsidian but that is too far off of 75. As I recall
it was only a mile or so east of 75. At 3AM I was lying awake and the
name Polecat Creek came to me but that one is in WY. Interestingly there
is a Pole Creek just south of the above Warm Creek. The views were great
except the last time when it was snowing and all we could see were the
cows coming up to hang out with us. :-)

Have you ever wanted to own a hot springs?
The historic Robinson Bar Ranch near Stanley, Idaho is for sale!
It has been off limits to the public since Carole King bought it about 1980.
The winter of 1970, my climbing buddy Harry was the caretaker at Robinson Bar. I skied in a couple miles in early March to see how Harry was doing. He was a little crazed from being alone all winter, but perked right up when the drugs came out.
The ranch had been a stage station and hot springs resort starting in the early 1880's and the main log cabin was a maze of corridors & small rooms. Two concrete soaking pools were "the bomb!"
It doesn't seem to have changed a lot externally, but Carol has fixed it up inside----real nice.
Oh!
The price you ask?
There's a lot more than a hot springs.
It has 128 acres and is surrounded by National Forest land.
There are several cabins in addition to the original 7,000 Sq. Ft. lodge.
The property also blocks public access to what has become a private creek & trail that leads into the White Cloud Mountains.
And a recording studio too!
Its been on the market for a while, and has been marked way down.
Really a bargain!
