For the record I wasn't the person who complained, and it occurs to me that maybe no one did. It's entirely possible that the person who has whack-amole power looked in at what was taking up 800+ posts, didn't like it, whacked the thread and and sent a form letter

ST is not an interesting place if the posters cannot be bothered to practice a measured level of self restraint--the guests that are leaving will leave quietly, never asking anyone else to tone it down and party the way they like.

Like Roger said this discussion is about playing nicely with others, and for the most part the ST community gets to pick how they want to play with others, just like usenet. The whack-a-mole is rare. Most people who don't like the way people play will just leave quietly, unless people speak up and say time to tone things down. Endless posts about cameltoes and bolt ons? or ??? You guys get to pick.

I like the campfire analogy too.
But I see it as each thread is sort of it's own little campfire with people gathering around the fires that appeal to them.
As Mal said, if this was my mom's house,
the conversations would have to be kept to rather polite and boring chit-chat.

Rule #1: You're only as dumb as your last post.
Rule #2: You're only as smart as your last post.
Rule #3: If you don't know which rule applies to your last post, refer to Rule #1.

First of all, I think that most women rock climbers are used to being part of a boys' club. To generalize, many are tomboys who have been heavily exposed to male sexuality not only as a target but also as a tolerant peer. And, speaking for myself, I can appreciate the physique of a fit woman. I think women are beautiful though I think that fake boobies look weird, and porno photos of genitalia don't qualify.

But every community has a set of social standards. Sometimes they are expressed as rules or laws, and sometimes they are simply unspoken taboos. Individuals who lack the social intelligence to perceive these standards are often ostracized. For this (usually tolerant) woman, Locker went too far. I followed the thread for a while (mostly for Russ's funny additions... I suppose I can be juvenile), but there was a tipping point when it began to look like Locker was just trying to be offensive. At any rate, I quickly determined that he was a person that I would never want as a friend, climbing partner, or shoe resoler. Had I known he was nudie bombing L's threads, I'm sure this tipping point would have come sooner for me. Personally, I don't care if he's allowed back. I don't wish ill on anyone, but perhaps he needs to adjust his social compass and to learn to respect others.

Not only are there women who read this forum, I'd imagine there are--or were until their parents saw recent threads--kids, folks with strong religious beliefs, etc. In my opinion, people are forced to use analogies such as in the house thing because offenders choose to be obtuse when confronted with tact. But for crying out loud, some folks need to get a clue (talking to you dirtineye).

Rokjox, I also had some PAs (that I had resoled with EB soles) that I sewed rubber sides to, but there were no takers.
