You opened the door too wide, sis. I was trying to answer just one, question; you piled on several more.

To respond to your broadside, I don't think you need to drop your friends of any gender when you get, involved. If you have to do that, the relationship is not going to work. Sure you can no longer sit up all night with your opposite gender/same alignment buddy drinking vanilla malts and having platonic pillow fights in your undies; no doubt. But there are always going to be go-to people with whom you have certain types of conversations, because you share, or contrast, certain types of insights. When you get into an exclusive relationship, either it is strong enough to acknowledge that other exculsivity, or it's not. The more the relationship can accept that reality, the stronger it is.
Things doen't get all that stronger than the bond of lamaz, but thats not to say that on a lesser scale someone elses view of kafka, or how low to put your knee in a tele turn, or why woody allen clung to horn rims for so long, or whether dinosaurs were warm blooded might, not be worth pondering with someone who is interested in that sh#t.

It's about mutual trust.

Janet,

I will definitely agree with you on those points, with the listening probably being the most important.

damn, luckyP...baja on dvd, a ru to beat on...are you coming to sushifest ? ;-) wait, what were we talking about ?

ok. so part of that ladder theory was that women only really want a small percentage of the things they say they want...i find that part interesting, as for me the action always speaks louder than the words and it would seem that this guy is on or near the money with that statement, based on my somewhat limited statistical sample...

anyone remember the end of the movie 'singles' ? in the elevator ?

edit : maybe the deeper question is what is romantic love, and is there *one* for everyone, or more than one ? are we holding out for this *one* when there are many, if we were only open to them ? dunno about that one, i seem to go back and forth on it...maybe what women want is this thing we call 'love', however we would define it ?

if it were anything else than what it *is*, what the hell would we write all the songs about, that's for sure...

Busy day at the office - students crying, papers to grade, research to do - a day's work. :) Unfortunately with all of this excitement, I missed the thread's progress.

Accept? To go climbing or get married? heh heh.

hold out for the barry white, crimpie !

and leb - agreed with you on the best friend of opposite sex thing - never have seen that not end up with the triangle, or the 'just something casual while we are breaking up, don't take it personal' ;-)

i find it funny so many joke about 'just wanting a sane one' or 'no psychos' (yeah, i do it too)...we are human, and imho this is part and parcel of the packaging...you just gotta find one you can deal with, that wants to wrestle with you as well maybe...

so what the hell do you all want ? power and money ? friendship ? free concert tickets ? candy ?

re: skeletons in the closet - i don't really care if someone has 'em, as long they're not still doing whatever it is that got those skeletons in the closet to begin with. if somebody has ish they've dealt with, it enables them to better weather life's storms and therefore are a more appealing partner. i want someone who'll have my back thru thick and thin. i'm super f*cken loyal. i want someone who is too - somebody who keeps it real.

Yes, Lucky, your concept of joyful wrestling resonates in the male psyche, as well. Good one!

well pagan wrote: "you just gotta find one you can deal with, that wants to wrestle with you as well maybe..." but we really should experience mostly joy in working out the daily hills and valleys or ow's !! so not particulary nietzche-esque..

I've just discovered this entire thread will help me with those pesky ow's.. ha.

y'all better go look at that moon.
