I'm in the design stage of a woodie, so thought I'd bump this for some motivation and other folks input.

Jaybro,
I heard through the grapevine that J reset the standard on how it could be climbed. I guess no surprise there but still really cool.

J is undeniably good at those wide cracks. He didn't even feel well. Plenty of yunz are looking pretty floaty on it these days though.
Someday I want to have a barn raising of sorts where you guys can help us put up something fun in the backyard that doesn't freak out the neighbors. I'm thinking a mattress protected roof sort of thing.

Yeah Jaybro--You got the $$$ shots! Look at all that blood and bruising...makes me grimace just thinking about it.
Nurse Rachet's got the best idea: Elbow guards, knee guards, protective clothing neck to heel, and tape, tape, tape...now that's my idea of fun! ;-)

Question for the crack machine guys. Are you painting or coating the wood with anything? I'd rather not use sand, and was thinking of maybe painting on some Rhino Liner type stuff. We're still working on it, but it's starting to take a little shape.
Not as grand as some above, but I'm proud so far.
Not satisfied at ending the 45 degree we continued it after the small 18" roof section up the rafters to the peak of the house.
Padding is 4 pieces thick carpet foam topped with carpet.
a big part of the reason we built it.

Snap--Any way you could resize (reduce) those photos please? You've blown the borders of the thread out, and viewing your pix (and all previous posts) is uber difficult.
Many thanks if you can do it.

The crack machines I have seen have no coating on them at all.

Here's a couple from the gym I built in our Tahoe rental house back in about 1996. The upstairs bedroom had huge exposed beams which made it pretty easy. There's a roof section that connected the 45 and 10 degree walls that you can't see much of. There was also a 12 foot campus board in the backyard. The 45 degree wall goes another 4 feet past where you can see. I took a couple of scary whippers off it over the years.
All we did in the winter was train and smoke pot.

Bump.
I still haven't figured out where to put a woodie in our house, used to have one in the living room, too small, and then in the stairwell, but not good landing for bouldering and I ended up putting a small loft in which killed that one.
