My wife comes from a long line of "foreign-language-impaired-persons." Her mother took "Beginning Spanish" three times (she lives in San Diego), because she wanted to be able to converse with many of the locals. So I'd go over to my wife-to-be's house, and her mom would say (thinking she was saying "Tomas"--insert Spanish pronunciation here), "Hi Tom-moose!" At first, I didn't know what the heck she was talking about--especially as she was looking at me all proud-like for having (unbeknownst to me) spoken a foreign language. Then my wife-to-be (once she stopped laughing at her mom) told me about all the Spanish classes. Anyway, the name "moose" stuck (which I was subsequently called for years by family and friends). When I tried using "moose" as a supertopo name, it had already been taken (though I've never actually seen it). So...I use "mooser," since that's what my wife affectionately calls me. It's a nickname on top of a nickname. Incedentally, my mother-in-law finally gave up on Spanish. Probably a good thing... Oh...and one more thing...for some reason I feel a real kinship with Moosie...

Mine came from my interest in Hawaiian Slak Key Guitar music. I am not talking about that goofy steel guitar sh#t. Slak Key is much different. When the westerners came over to Hawaii to teach the Hawaiians how to ranch and raise cattle on the Big Island they also brought the Guitar. The problem was they did not teach the Hawaiians how to properly tune the dam thing, so the Hawaiians invented their own form of tunning.
It is not country western music at all. The songs are very techncal in the technique used to play the instrument and they songs usually are based on a story.
Plus I think I was about six beers down when I thought of it.

I stumbled into Supertopo by accident. Late I might add and with such a rare name from the 50s my first name was taken in English and Spanish so I added my middle name in Spanish.
I am called Rich, Richard, Rick, Dick and by very few Richie.
Different people call me Rich or Richard mostly. Dad and father work as well. Today I have been called Richard , Rich ,Dad and Asshole and a few things in Spanish I cant spell. They all fit....
I stamp my gear with RC as Dick Shockley was using RS before I was climbing. In SD at the time RCS was Rock Climbing Section.

I first signed on to the Taco the day Todd Skinner died. He used to call me Wild Bill, so when ST asked for a name, that's what I thought of.
Others have called me Wild Bill. Kinda fits. Although I'm Sweet William at times too. But that was what I heard every time I spoke with Todd. Wish it weren't so heavy, but there you have it.

I was Danielle (my middle name) to all who knew me until I went to college in the big city and became a name on a paper (Melissa). After a while, I got used to it. When I interviewed for grad school I was afraid that they wouldn't remember "Melissa", the person on the paperwork that they would admit or reject, if they had only met "Danielle", so I just went with "Melissa" for that time. When I decided to come here, everyone already knew me as Melissa and it would have been weird to tell them to call me something else.

I live in Misery; aka Missouri. Much of our climbing is on private lands either with, or without permission.
We (therealbovine) had put up a new line one day on the lake, then we went looking at a new crag on unfriendly private land. Owner came driving though his fields, a rooster tail of dirt behind his pickup. For some reason we ran instead of chatting with him.
Idiots.
We hid in a cave, then slinked away just before sunset.
Named the route "Phantom Fugitive" and never returned to that crag. Looked pretty good from the cave. Handle is better known as FAntom- FA's in stealth style.

Eeee-yonk-eeeee was the semi-official yodel of the Poway Mountain Boys. It's what you called out to say hi to a fellow PMB at a distance. I changed from Grug (short for Grug of Cameroon, a name given to me by either Dave Goeddel or Bruce Adams) only because I wanted to change my email address but forgot my password.

When I started climbing in HS my partner and I always tended to rack-up the same stuff after each pitch. He was good at coiling the rope so it wasn't a f-ed up rat's nest and I was really good at getting the f-ed up knots out of slings that have been sealed up with weight. So he became Rope and I am Sling. I tried to use that as my yahoo email address but it was taken, so sling512 was a good choice being that was my harded climb to date. Our little adventures became The Adventures of Rope and his trusty sidekick Sling the Boy Wonder! He was a good artist and made a few little books.... wonder where those are.

I started out Taco life as DPatrick (Douglas is my first name but I grew up with my middle name Patrick, funny my brothers go by their middle names as well).
Then I decided I might as well go by my real name, so I asked Chris to change my handle for me.
Not very exciting is it.

It's what I do -- or did for many years -- ghostwriting.
I used to hang out on the old rec.climbing, where there were fewer handles and more real names, but handles seemed to be the norm here on ST.

When my twin brother and I were born, the units already had two names picked out-Matthew Ryan and James Clayton, the first names were after our grandfathers and the middle names were random. Since I was the bigger of the two they gave me the Clay name, like Cassius Clay. So I'm James although some call me Peaches.
