hey there, say... i like a "clump of climbers":
being that:
it can be said:
say, look over there, there is a clump here, and a clump there... and wow! look at the huge clump way over there... (for those paid-guide deals where all kinds of climber "go for it")...
then, too, if a climber is soloing.. welllllllll there is one solo climber here, and one way over there, and another perhaps just upwind from him---thus, to the eye, from far away, there is a "spread out clump" on that area of rock....
yep---i just love the sound of a "clump of climbers" off for a good day on the rocks...

Naah, we're much too refined to do anything so ungainly as "clumping". Instead, climbers:
Daintily dance on the diorite.
Prettily prance on the peridotite.
Ballet on the basalt.
Wittily waltz on the wall.
Artfully arabesque on the aplite.
