Just back from a trip to the Soc Sec orifice with me mum. What a cluster*#%>!
First, only at a gubmint orifice are the handicapped parking places the FURTHEST away from the entrance, right? Nuthing like institutionalized hypocrisy.
Then some dude comes out to say no food or drink allowed inside. We go in and every window has somebody drinking coffee! Who's working for who?
Then some flunky has a job of seating you AFTER you've been given a number and there's a big screen with yer # and window to report to! He wants me mum to get up and walk to the far side of the room cause she's not where she is sposed to be. Boy, howdy, did I get in his grill! "SHE'S 91! LEAVE HER BE!"
"Uh, OK."

I am so ready to have the time to fully get back at it...
So we are going to see something like 3x your post rate to date? Or are you talking about devoting yourself to something else?
Just yanking your chain. You always crack me up.

The following is an experience similar to retirement.
You are sitting at the dinner table after the meal. The hostess tells everyone "we have three kinds of pie for dessert, each with ice cream. Strawberry, raspberry, and pecan and if you wish you can have a slice of each. Locker what would you like?"
Locker replies, "I'll pass on dessert. I'd rather go climbing one more time."

any retired ex-pats, or near-retirement gringos considering moving abroad for retirement?
it has occurred to me that I could potentially speed up my retirement date if I retired earlier (say in my 50s rather than 60s) and moved to a cheaper locale that still would offer decent climbing opportunities (thinking about Thailand, Mexico, Peru.]
put another way, it's often said that $1 million USD is what a prospective retiree would want to have saved up approaching retirement at the age of 65 here in the US. But I imagine that figure would be halved (at least) if one were going to spend retirement in a cheaper place.

Pakistan and Tajikistan are by far the cheapest climbing venues I've been to recently. The Balti people in the Karakoram are very friendly to westerners as are the Ismalis in the Pamirs
If you want to hook up the Ismaii Muslims in Tajikistan are quite liberal and like to dance....you probably wouldn't have to convert.
Concerning alcohol....Tajikistan is secular and they have good, very inexpensive local brew. Pakistan would be great if you are a recovering alcoholic who is off the sauce.
Food is okay in both places, especially if you like chichen, and it's dirt cheap.
That said...I imagine most on this forum will pass on my recommendation.
