I wish that were true Donini. Unfortunately Trump is actually a truly brilliant man. He has an understanding of society and psychology that is not merely natural but also deeply studied and applied over decades.
There used to be a longer version of this video where trump explains more how this type of thing is a tactic that he can use during negotiations. Anyway he is a master of manipulation.

An ID card for Muslims? Shutting down mosques? Retired top officers say Trump’s national security notions are crazy—at best.
Donald Trump and Ben Carson have spent the last 24 hours proposing bigoted and constitutionally questionable methods for keeping tabs on Muslims and Syrian refugees. And that’s causing some retired generals and admirals to speak out against the GOP presidential frontrunners.
The former top military officers contacted by The Daily Beast said not only are Carson and Trump pushing ideas that are unworkable, they would actually make the situation in Middle East worse.

Ugly and wrong as well and it almost certainly cost Gore the presidency...
but this muslim registration issue is far far far beyond democrat vs republican.

Should we talk about how POTUS Clinton dealt with Cuban Boat "Refugee" People throughout his tenure?
His standing policy to ICE and the US Coast Guard was to intercept and send them ALL back to Cuba for fear of the lot being brutal criminals that Castro was actually releasing to infiltrate the US.
What a compassionate guy he and his First Lady were....

Those Republican candidates are fungible retards. It is very difficult to see where one ends, and the other begins. They all start saying the same thing. Whichever way the wind blows, that's the course they set.
These so-called conservatives are not in favor of free movement of goods and services. Just about all of them are agitating for defunding and outlawing health care services for women.
Like all greedy people, they like the game rigged in their favor, and the deck stacked against others.
The Republican conservatives want to eliminate government interference, and enjoy free-enterprise, with respect to their own activities:
 financial fraud
corporate monopolies
polluting the environment
evading taxes, regulations and inconvenient laws
exploiting other people, here and abroad
using money to influence politicians and judges
ignoring state and federal civil rights laws
Then, they rant and rave about how they plan to have the government severely restrict the rights of other people:
tracking people, like they were Fedex packages
evicting native-born citizens with immigrant parents
surveilling and tracking of people based on their religion
outlawing abortion
outlawing unions and collective bargaining
forcing consumer disputes to arbitration
eliminating citizens' right to redress grievances in a court of law
enacting onerous burdens to dissuade and exclude certain groups of voters
They want to deregulate themselves, while increasing the regulation of others.
They want to eliminate the welfare state, but not corporate subsidies and tax loopholes.
They are greedy hypocrites, in favor of maintaining and increasing the parasitic activities that are destroying America. They point at and decry welfare mothers with one hand, and take a $700 billion dollar government payment with the other.
It's sickening to see the death of America, right before one's eyes, especially when otherwise sensible people rally around and cheer on the destroyers.
People get the government they deserve.

stupid does run strong in this thread. on the one hand i find what trump said is disgusting, and he was originally tricked into it. on the other hand, everyone is on a f*#king list.
snowden uncovered that. if you dont think NSA is keeping track of every bit of info about people that they can your fooling yourself.
but yes, for a presidential candidate to talk about lists of all muslims is really bad. but the fact is the already have that list. they just dont want to talk about it.

Hawkeye. I think you make a good point about there already being a lot of lists, but I don't' think Trump was tricked. He is very astute. I believe he knew exactly what that reporter asked the instant he asked it, and said what he wanted to say knowing that when the outrage came, he could claim innocence if it looked like he needed to. Plus he could once again complain about how terrible the media is, which plays well for those who would vote for him, plus if he has to backtrack, then those who believe like he does will spin it to just be political expediency and will still believe that he is in their camp. Its a win win win for him no matter how it plays out.
I will confess. In its early days I watched trumps tv show. He proved to be very astute and able to cut to the chase almost immediately. This doesn't mean that I agree with his opinions, just that he is quick to understand the nuances of what is going on.
