zardoz - 'Living in America' off the "Gravity" album! I solo to that all the time (headphones)... Saw him in Vegas a couple years ago at the House of Blues. Still funkin' strong - his show gets tighter every time I've seen him...he's amazing man.

As I exited the tunnel this weekend...:
Make my funk the P.Funk
I want my funk uncut
Make my funk the P.Funk
I wants to get funked up.
I want the bomb,
I want the P.Funk
Don't want my funk stepped on
Make my funk the P.Funk
Before I take it home...
Damn, those horns are fonky!

You know, John, that's what I though too.... I went and looked and all the lyrics things I saw online said "I".
I'm with you. I think it makes more sense that way.
Ed--that is one of the greatest lines... Good runnig into you and finally meeting you at the base of Dihedral Wall a few weeks ago.
Cheers!

Man I dig the opening picture so much I had to bring it back. Is that John Bachar? Man if so, he has aged, but the mustache looks familiar.

ron gomez- Yeah , something soothing about Bootsy! Thanks bro!
sorry scabang - you're either funky or not. AWB, Tower of Power, Wild Cherry - they got the funk - even though they're white. Brooklyn Funk Essentials are cool too- already been digging their stuff for years now.

Heard Stevie Wonder playing Sir Duke this morning on the way to work...What a great horn line...
Music is a world within itself
With a language we all understand
With an equal opportunity
For all to sing, dance and clap their hands
But just because a record has a groove
Don't make it in the groove
But you can tell right away at letter A
When the people start to move
They can feel it all over
They can feel it all over people
They can feel it all over
They can feel it all over people
Music knows it is and always will
Be one of the things that life just won't quit
But here are some of music's pioneers
That time will not allow us to forget
For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo
And the king of all Sir Duke
And with a voice like Ella's ringing out
There's no way the band can lose

You guys like some Motown right? Of course you do! So you need to check out this movie called Standing in the Shadows of Motown.
Its a documentary made in 2002 (I think? ... could be '01) about the little-known yet wildly famous in-house Motown band called The Funk Brothers. To quote directly from the movie:
"By the end of their phenomenal run, this unheralded group of musicians had played on more number ones hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis and the Beatles combined - which makes them the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music."
I think that says it all right there ... check it out!

There's a clip here on this website that shows the actual recording of 'The Temptations' in the studio making 'My Girl'....
http://www.youtube.com/results?search=The+Temptations&search_type=search_videos
Also 'The Funk Brothers' including the legendary James Jamerson playing his bass with one finger for one of many, many songs he recorded for Motown. Very cool and timeless music...!

bachar--
Years ago, I lived in a condo complex here and I kept thinking I recognized the security guard ring leader/manager... Was a really nice guy when he'd let me in the gate, etc... Got to talking to him one night, as he was making his rounds and passing my place. Turns out he was "Hair" from Tower of Power. Was pretty cool. =)
Have a goody package almost ready for a trip to Mammoth, as well.
Cheers!
