Chaz, I have a feeling you can be locked up for life for saying that under Obama's new prolonged detention, signed into law New Years Eve.

Yeah High Traverse, we should just pass a law so all firearms evaporate.

Skyway is not an upscale neighborhood. It's between Beacon Hill and Renton right on the fringes of the 'hood in Rainier valley. I'm not sure Bill Gates
knows where it is. A sad situation.

He was found wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and one shoe. Teams were tracking him, but he had a good head start. No external wounds were found. It is widely reported that he had some survival equipment in the rig, it wasn't with him.

My heart goes out to her husband, children, and family. She is a giving person, killed needlessly.

Interesting to watch the stereotypes and preconceptions play out in this thread. The ranger was a she, she did not recklessly approach the car, she had another ranger responding with her, the subject did not commit suicide and did not die in a hail of bullets. The hijacking of this tragedy is already fully politicized.

Does not surprise me he died of the elements given that he did not have the proper clothing..

Looks like the hapless PTSD victim froze to death.

HK,

Maybe in your next life go-around, you'll be born with his genetics and life experiences - then YOU can show us how to live them.

Differently.

what's the significance of a raincross tattoo other than to say "I'm from Riverside" & what's so special about Riverside to make someone want to get a TAT of it? I mean, it's like saying "I'm from Springfield" - really generic...

Also notable, two different toddlers, both 1 yr old going on 2, lost a parent in the last 36hrs. Imagine the impact of the last 36 hrs their psyches in the years to come as they grow up, one whose mom was shot in the line of duty & one whose sperm donor was the shooter... really something to ponder.

t-shirt, jeans and one tennis shoe...plus some guns. Survival skills my ass... Oh yeah, and a bunch of crappy tattoos and one self-styled "bad-assed" pic brandishing said guns. What a fukin loser, and a disgrace to vets who did much longer TOD's without the break-from-reality shooting spree. Adios woman-killing-want-to be-Rambo..

comment on Seattle Times article shedding light/opinion on the tat thing...

"Second, the PTSD assumption seems like a leap in this case. Not everyone with PTSD arms themselves to the teeth and tats themselves up like some hyper-Rambo. And about those tattoos... anyone know the symbolism? They look like they could very well be racist -- again, not something I associate with PTSD. One on his chest reads "ODEN," a spelling of the Norse god's name supposedly preferred by the White Supremacist heavy metal band Skythrone. I think this guy was probably messed up well before Iraq.

There's a photo of his tattoos here: http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/1201

...and some info on the Skythrone link etc. here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/01/02/1050701/-Rainier-Na "

They look like prison tats to me.

If that's the case, there probably is a racist theme to them.

If that's the case, there probably is a racist theme to them.

Skyway (the 'hood where he shot people before hiding out at Rainier) has one of the highest non-white demographic profiles in WA (which, is quite a pastey white state in general)

edit, then again could be coincidental...

Doesn't the US military have any sense of parsing the crazies from the men & women who wish to serve????

Sadly, they're not that picky. Many thousands of gangbangers have gotten
into the Army and Marine Corps. When they get out they're really good
gangbangers.

According to police and court documents, Barnes had a troubled transition to civilian life, with accusations in a child custody dispute that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder following his Iraq deployments and was suicidal.

The mother of his toddler daughter sought a temporary restraining order against him, according to court documents.

She alleged that he got easily irritated, angry and depressed and kept an arsenal of weapons in his home. She wrote that she feared for the child's safety. Undated photos provided by police showed a shirtless, tattooed Barnes brandishing two large weapons.

The woman told authorities Barnes was suicidal and possibly suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after deploying to Iraq in 2007-2008, and had once sent her a text message saying "I want to die."

Call it what you want but that's a mental health issue by any definition.

My guess is alcohol/drugs involved and that the real tragedy is that the people who he shot up at 3:00AM didn't hit him as "they returned fire." Clearly Ms. Anderson was at the wrong place at the wrong time. My heart goes out to her and her family.

As for politicizing firearms being brought into national parks, WTF? Do you really think that would have stopped this guy? Another attempt by liberals to turn an unconnected tragedy into furthering their whacked agenda.

I agree with Riley, POS long before he had PTSD.

Our military recruits desperate young Americans and non-citizens who need employment...they serve as cannon fodder for our corporate excursions into unfriendly territories laden with lucrative natural resources..Be all you can be..Not just a job but an adventure....
