I can't remember so many riders going down so hard. I was going for a road ride this afternoon, but thinking MTB now. Those are some tough mofo's.

I liked Voeckler today. He deserved yellow.

Close up photo of Hoogerland's injuries today. Not for the squeamish. Courtesy of Eric W. over at MP.

If I am reading the white by his left knee properly, that looks like bone or tendon damage, in an area that you can't keep stitches into when riding.

I wouldn't be surprised if the docs pull him by tomorrow, but he sure showed a lot of guts, finishing the stage with injuries this bad.

Here is the video of the press car taking them out.

Just think if that happened in NASCAR.

The driver of the press car would be either dead or have so much sh'it kicked out of him he'd wish he was dead ......

This is now officially Le Tour des Choques. Are the riders less astute or
are they pushing it harder? Judgeing by all the seemingly benign choques
I suspect the former. Clearly, the skill of the vehicle drivers has taken a plunge.

I don't know how much ass kickin' there will be (remember it is the Tour de France.)

But I can guarantee there will be a lot of cigarettes smoked and angry editorials tomorrow.

Is Universal/NBC/versus $29 package worth buying? I'm working during my favorite stage (Alpe de H.) and want to play it back fully when I get home.

Yeah, the on $30 one the website has been well worth it for me. you can replay stages. You don't have to watch it live. You do have to be on a Mac or PC, since it requires Silverlight (boooooo!)

If you get Versus on cable, they replay it about 5 times a day

Proud day for Voeckler.

Hoogerland and Flecha are some brave dudes to finish today.
I hope that driver gets brought up on negligent driving charges. Right.

Sorry, Doc, but Cadel dropped to third today. Still my pick over Schleck & Contador.

But first the Pyrenees and the Col du Tourmalet in 4 days. All cards on the table for the GC contenders.

Gnarley shot of Johnny's shredding. My friend that did the same thing on a mtn. bike ride looked about the same, just different body parts.
Visualize a narrow guage chain saw accident.

Here come the Alps. Tomorrow, Thursday July 14 2011.

OOPS... EDIT: Like Mike Friedrichs says, it's the Pyrénées.... not the Alps.

The real race starts tomorrow in the Pyrenees.

Here's the side the race comes up this year.

My prediction for tomorrow: At least two or three Frenchies will take off early - certainly Vockler will be one of them - riding for the Glory Of France.

They'll be caught just past the sprint, dropped in the mountains, and end up being lucky to beat the cut-off time.

Willoughby, those are cycling (I think) induced vericose veins. I have a few cycling pals who have them.

Dito. No diss to Cadel but he's no climber.

BTW, love the "baiting" AC has been doing with the "oh, my knee hurts". My ass...transparent as Juan's 2-dimensional humor. Then again, it could be AC's excuse to shoot up more "testosterone"....
