it's a grin to read the replies. in the spirit of the mathematical, i find intriguing a little teaser
involving the length of the british coastline.
a rough calculation might be reached by way of a several sided polygon connecting the capes. in search of greater accuracy,
one might adhere with increasing fidelity to the various rugosities of whatever scale.
thus any answer can be justified beyond a certain minimum inclosure

aren't we a bunch of questors ... the ones that went over the wall while our littermates mewed in an angsty heap?
we push out during periods of expansion into the territory, and then comes a conceptual knitting, an effort
to wrap what we've taken in a package, which is settling, to form a cohesive subset of the whole.
what moon pulls that reversing tide but repose?
and maybe the compulsion of sense

How else could the infinite be framed, but gently?
Gently....

Infinity - Lay down your mass and let go. Cut communication with all energy. Perceive by permeation. On the other side you'll pick up the mass you want, generate the energy you want, and all is creation. Smile.

Technically, not quite - not every curve with an infinite number of wrinkles can be thought of as infinitely long. But, somehow, I think I'm missing the poetry here . . .

I'd like to think the infinite is gently framed. It feels good when you say that. However, I believe it has a harsh/hardness and a depth that balances the quiet gentleness.
But what do I know of the infinite ? To me it's part of the invisible world that makes up reality in the truest sense.
Now we have a New Year to explore the infinite yet again. Peace, lynne

The level-of-detail is critical for computer mapping (i.e. GIS) or virtual reality representations (VR/CAD)
one day i walked/rock climbed the entire coast line of Anahoe Island in Pyramid Lake, NV with a Trimble survey GPS system on my back
then went to my office the next day and geo-referenced the survey line to the USGS sectionals to calculate the coast line and acreage
then flew over the island hanging out the door taking pictures
then geo-referenced the pictures to map out all the pelican and cormorant nest sites on the island
then walked the hill tops with binoculars to designate which nest sites were active during nesting season
you can take in the entire scene at a glance from an airplane
or you can spend a lifetime understanding everything happening there
it is very easy to mess up a balanced ecology
it is very challenging and full of unexpected surprises to try to repair it
the universe is like that
i had 80 gb of CAD data for ISS on my computer. we eliminated all the nuts and bolts and washers and kept cutting down the LOD until we could represent VR for all construction phases in 600 mb
the main thing we have learned on the space station is that we don't know how to make a life support system work
that is also the main thing we have learned on planet earth
we had best learn quickly
