He looked a lot like R. Crumb.
He arrived in the Valley in the middle of the Dawn Wall epic, telling us he was there to show Harding and "Codwell" how to do it.
He had the crazy look and he bouldered using soot from campfires, not chalk.
How strange do you need to be in a place that seems to hold "strange" as dear?
He acted a lot like an Amleth.

Lenna and Tim, 1960.
Grandad Larson and Bermingham brats at San Luis Dam, 1964.
This was what he called the "Blob," a sheep's feet compactor--eight hours a night he drove it back and forth over the dam. We drove out to see him off to work that afternoon.

I just thought of Mt. AA the other day and I thought I'd check up on it--never been there but wanted to see it up close someday maybe.
Interesting geography there on "the Lyell Fork of the Merced River..."

They were on my radio show several times in Santa Cruz playing live and doing an interview. They are really really funny and that is an accomplishment to be funny in a language that is not your first.
The first time they came to this country they played on my show and then they gave a very intimate concert at a little hall After the concert we pushed the chairs away and they played polskas so we could dance.

Just a friendly bunch of college-age kids mixing it up in a desultory manner. An afternoon mixer. Kegger to follow.
Some have deferments. Some have a deal with the Army National Guard.
It sounds like the class of '69 playing on Musical Migrations at this very second.
Nice Irish, Gypsy!

Since we have a Berkeley thing going, here's where Mouse taught me wide crack/corner technique back in the olden days. San Pablo and Grayson...two blocks from where I live now. I remember you could see our shoe marks on it for years.
