Wilbeer, good article. I kinda agree with all the comments in the article, if that's possible. I have also broken several cables. Telemarking is still fun as hell, though, they forgot to mention that. I tele more than any other skiing, and I'm gonna keep on tele skiing. Still good skiing in Tahoe. :)

Glad to see folks getting out there having fun! Ski+boat looks like a good novelty day. I was thinking about this last week.

Charlie, roughly where in the S Sierra, and at what elevations have you been skiing? The snow was very warm and wet around Tahoe this weekend.

We were going to try to climb as well but there was a lot of wet rock after that much snow in what seems to be essentially a dessert.

Kunlun_shan, we went down to Virginia Lakes. They have plowed the road from Conway Summit back in to the trail head. What's great is you start at elevation, I think somewhere around 9,700' so it froze the night before each day we skied....awesome corn. Cooler weather returns later in the week, should be great again!!!

Am sorry to hear you are injured, Jim. Not good timing with all the snow. Hopefully you can get rid of the crutches soon, and in time for climbing season.
Thank you for the corn report, Charlie! We'll probably try to get up to Virginia Lakes this Memorial Day weekend. I hope 395 does not flood out with the warnings I'm reading for the Walker River and the warm weather this week. Your photos are a big motivator to get out there :-)

Family headed out of town back to the black hills so have a few days to roam about. It was pouring rain in boulder yesterday and was not sure what to do so I drove up to Brainard Lake to look at camping possibilities. It is a short 3 mile bike ride to the campground which is plowed but they don't open the gate until later in the year. Once there I saw that parts of the campground were melted out so I drove back home to get the bike/ski packing kit together. I drove back up in the pouring rain which thankfully changed to snow by the time I got to the parking lot. It was nice until I got the tent set up but started snowing fairly hard an hour or so later. The storm cleared but others soon followed. I woke up at 3:30 to clear skis. I brewed some coffee and ate some barely edible freeze dried breakfast scramble. I headed out on the bike with the ski kit on the trailer until I was around the Brainard Lake where I started skiing. It is a mile or so to Long Lake where I eventually skied across the frozen lake trying to decide to go big and try to do Apache or do some really nice looking lines much closer. In the end I wussed out and went for the easier option and ended up sking what I think is Niwot Ridge. It was not a complete failure as I got to see a lot of new terrain and skied a nice line back down to Long Lake with about 6 fresh inches of powder. Got some great views of the surrounding terrain on the long trek up to the weather station at the top of Niwot Ridge.

Had fun skiing a line during Memorial Day weekend that hasn't been in for the last few years. We started with the north couloir on Dunderberg Peak (middle skyline) and then over to the Green Creek Couloir (shaded line at right).
Great conditions out there right now. I expect we'll be skiing well into July in the Sierra!

Skied CO Mines Peak today with Jack from Berthoud Pass.It was a bit of an adventure skiing out on 7 mile creek. Also saw my first Bear since moving to CO Jack even caught it on film. Skied up on Corona Pass Tuesday it was kind of a dud but got some great views of some future objectives. North East Face on James.
