Jon Beck:
Comparing RT to US mainstream media is laughable I do not have my own opinion on RT because I watch it very infrequently, probably less than once a month.
At the same time I agree that Russian MSM is different from US MSM from manageability point of view.
In pre-1991 USSR, media was strictly controlled.
Then USSR has disappeared and government control of media got broken.
There was an incredible period of freedom when journalists and editors were able to publish whatever they wanted.
Gradually government established more control, but it's still not to the level of control in the US. Do not worry, Russian government is working on it and it will catch up soon.
You probably noticed that e.g. FOX and CNN stories are very different when they talk about internal US events.
At the same time it looks like they use exactly the same scripts when they talk about international events.
(Hint: these scripts are provided at daily foreign policy briefings by US States Department).
Exhibit 1: I assume that you heard more than 100 times about Russian aggression against Ukraine (as for Dr. Goebbels advice lies should be repeated many times to make it more credible).
How many times have you heard how US government sponsored and micromanaged Ukrainian coup in February 2014, that brought a party of Nazi sympathizers to power?
Exhibit 2: I assume that you heard more than 100 times about crimes committed by Serbs against Muslims in Kosovo.
How many times have you heard about crimes committed by Croats during ethical cleansing of Serbs in Eastern Slavonia and Serbian Krajina?
Do you really believe that free objective MSM would have provided such biased lopsided selection of stories?

#BattleForReality
In his new book, James Comey says Trump is like a Mob Boss.
The Don has repeatedly aggravated, annoyed and insulted the Special Prosecutor, but never thought that would not come back to bite him in the ass.
Apparently, the overgrown schoolyard bully didn't foresee the day when the geek would grow up, go to law school, become the head of the FBI, and play out his final act by redirecting all his repressed playground rage at the World's Biggest Bully to get justice for the world.
You can't make this stuff up. It writes itself.

Actually I could believe that they would make so many mistakes. Americans care very little about foreign news unless it is dramatic. Few have any idea what is going on around the world. That carries over into the news departments mentality. The US government doesn't have to force the news providers to follow a certain story line. The news providers are cheap and lazy for the most part and are thus willing to be spoon fed. I'm sure that some news reporters would love to travel and get the story, but their bosses are too cheap to pay for that. All that you have to do to understand this phenomenon is to read todays news stories about climbing accidents. How often does the news story get the basic facts wrong? Fairly often. As climbers we know, because we care about that particular subject and we dig deeper. But the average american doesn't care and wouldn't dig deeper.
The same is true with foreigners opinions about America. I have heard all kinds of crazy things about Americans from people abroad. There are few genuinely well informed people about the entire world because that requires a huge amount of traveling and getting to know locals, and few people can do that. I would say that foreigners are probably better informed about America than American's are about the rest of the world, but that is because America has so much power and people around the world are interested in what America is doing because it affects them, thus their news agencies are more willing to spend the money to actually send reporters here. But they still have skewed views of Americans. We all have pools in our backyards and we all surf is one I have heard many times.

Jim Brennan:
During the civil wars in the former Yugoslavia, no ethnic group were given a pass about their particular atrocities. North American media at the time, presented full reporting of what the Serbs, Croats and Muslims did to each other in pursuit of their own nation state. Jim, I have a different recollection of that time.
I remember newspapers and TV overflowing with stories of crimes committed by Serbs.
Very limited coverage of crimes committed by Croats started later.
Also I have a recollection of Americans bombing Serbia and I have no recollection of Americans bombing Croatia.

I remember when my father voted for Nixon in 1968. That was not a bad decision. Nixon was very good as a president. He had his failings, though, the worst being that he tried to hide from a bad decision he thought was a good decision at the time he made it. It is very easy to understand that Nixon, who had no idea what drugs were, wanted to spy on the Democrats, whose unofficial spokesman was a crazy animal named Hunter S. Thompson.
Nobody ever grows up. Our society is a reflection of who we really are: children trying to make our way in the world, and some of us think that by closing our eyes we can hide from reality.
GOD! I wish Trump had stayed with making great buildings. He lost his compass when he diverted himself to the airline, the casinos and, now, the presidency.
For as long as I live, I will admire Trump for the buildings that he's created. He was one of the best. The Chicago Trump Tower was a great, final magic trick that should have been his lasting Opus Magnus.
But, it won't be.

Word is that the have thirty years of records from Cohen...and Donald Trump is steaming mad that his attorney/client priviledge shield may have been pierced.
I am sorry, but it is pretty hard to feel sorry for a guy who is crying "My illegal doings were supposed to be safe!"
I wonder if what he's really mad about is that Cohen has been raking him for money all these years based on the level of security his secrets have with him, and now he realizes all that money was spent on a lie.

Moreover, Trump’s claim that he built a real-estate fortune out of a “small” $1 million loan is simply not credible. He benefited from numerous loans and loan guarantees, as well as his father’s connections, to make the move into Manhattan. His father also set up lucrative trusts to provide steady income. When Donald Trump became overextended in the casino business, his father bailed him out with a shady casino-chip loan—and Trump also borrowed $9 million against his future inheritance. While Trump asserts “it has not been easy for me,” he glosses over the fact that his father paved the way for his success — and that his father bailed him out when he got into trouble.
For ignoring and playing down the substantial advantages his father’s wealth gave him, Trump earns Four Pinocchios.

That's just that popular myth that anyone can make it on their own with hard work, individual initiative and free will. It's never been that way. Like they say, behind every great fortune lies a great crime. Or else daddy's coin. The money has to come from somewhere. Anyone who tells you they made it on their own is usually a liar.

Jim, FWIW this may have been true in Canada, but here in the US the reporting was decidedly anti-Serb. I do not recall ever seeing or reading negative reporting about Croats or Kosovar Muslims.

Yeah there's a Fight Club thread, but I would love to see Don "The Pussyman" Trump jump into the octagon with James "Too Tall" Comey in a winner take all battle of the New York/Washington DC titans.

Slippery James Comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack (he is not smart!), will go down as the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!
-Donald Trump
If any of us here had written something like that we would think that person was having a meltdown.

The cue ball, right now, is Michael Cohen.
Trump is the nine ball, at the corner pocket.
Two different Federal prosecutors are ready to sink him.
Do you like peaches? Well, how do you like them impeaches?

I predicted that he wouldn't last two years. I think that guess is still in the running. If he lasts four and gets re-elected by his basket and some delusional others, the US is toast and I'll be even more grateful that I live in Canada now.
But if his run is more than four years, I greatly fear for Canada too.
