While I don't know a lot about soccer, I have enjoyed this world cup. I do have a thought. Given that we only do this every four years, why not make the final two out of three? Nah.
Win or go home is what makes the World Cup and March Madness so compelling.
And it gives you a lot more " what ifs" to talk about the other three years.
Group stage is a bit boring, though I get why they do it.

Also, what about allowing additional substitutes if the game goes into 2 15-min overtimes?
Well, it has been tried in league play around the World. It doesn't seam to really make a lot of difference.
It wasn't too many years ago when no subs at all were allowed. If a player got hurt, too bad. That in fact happened in the first WC Semifinal when the USA had a player get a broken leg from an Argentine challenge and the USA played a player short for most of the game.
( the USA came in third in the first cup)
The tradition is that subs shouldn't make a big difference.
College soccer has very liberal substitution rules, mostly to the detriment of the game.

I could see one more for OT if only for an injection of energy. Imagine being
a defender who has played 90 minutes and has to face some burner fresh off
the bench! Oh, the horror!

Not sure what this part of the discussion is about.... Honestly, it's going to take more than an endless stream of new/replacement players to come on the field... Like they do in the NFL... Then people will watch?
No thanks. I'll take the game as it is played... No need to make it better to get me to watch.
Who's watching the final?

Just watched yesterday's game and yeah that ref blew it. Kinda glad he didn't give the obvious red to Silva, cause that would have killed the game right away, but you got to give the red there.
Just as bad was not giving a pk to Brazil, instead giving a yellow to Oscar for a dive.
The Dutch deserved the win and Brazil wasn't the fourth best team in the Cup this year, but some of the better teams lost in the knockouts.

Tuned in and ready. Too bad it has to end, it's been a world cup to remember.
Just saw Mick Jagger walk in. He is not sporting any colors that would indicate his choice for a winner (or loser as history would seem to imply).

Deutschland 2
Argentina 1
FIFA have done nothing for their crdibility by appointing this Italian ref
for the final. While he may be above reproach I think they could have
found a good number of others who have performed admirably but don't have
an obvious link to Argentina.
