That didn't take any modeling.
I held a meeting with the forest spirits. I presented their suggestions to God himself, written in the blood of a fairy's pierced scrotum. After careful deliberation, a few magic words, full consideration of the economic consequences, and some translation using special seer stones, the final plan was revealed to me.

sky rocketing energy prices?
not necessarily, but they have happened in the past
http://www.ferc.gov/industries/electric/indus-act/wec/enron/summary-findings.pdf
but not by the government, unless you would hold them accountable for deregulating the energy market.
Maybe they don't teach you this in "science" school, but "price manipulation" is basically a function of government regulation. Without it, prices would simply fluctuate according to the iron law of supply and demand, as was discovered centuries ago by a real scientist.

Better is to spend on technologies that minimize energy use
Absolutely.
Number 1 priority: transportation.
Transportation of solar panels, food, people to and from work, etc.

Yeah, dipsh#t, I'm not sure how many times I have to tell you this, but that retaining wall (not stairs you fuking idiot) has nothing to do with my schooling. Furthermore, it worked... it retained debris.
Why don't you make yourself useful and go pick up the piles of sh#t I left for you up Whitney Portal way?

Way to save that mighty 20 foot stretch wes
Hey, thanks Ron. But to be clear, retaining walls don't "save" lengths of a hillslope; they slow down erosion over areas of a hillslope. That particular area is just over 2,000 square feet. My wall retained a minimum of 500 cubic feet (25 tons) of material and prevented what I'm sure would have been a significant head cut working its way up the slope.
But more importantly, those are some really good climbs and they are STILL far more comfortable for the belayer than they were before I did my work, despite the recent erosion. Also, you can go fuk yourself, idiot.

Interesting how our current implementation of solar energy isn't exactly carbon natural.
I used to install solar hot water pannels (learned how to build them in community college). At that time, we were told that although the technology is pretty simple, there's not enough copper (used to transfer the heat) to meet even a modest demand.
We can generate electricity in various "clean" ways, but we have to way to efficiently store it.
So the problems involved with turning the crank on this problem are pretty large, and will require much investment in research.
On the other hand, why passive solar design in buildings is not mandated by every gov't is beyond me. I still see new housing going up that does not integrate passive solar design, and it completely perplexes me.

As a user of both evapoative cooling (swamp- cooler) and AC I'd have to say the swamp cooler saves more than a little energy over the AC.

And as blahblah might wish all of our energy demands to be met, we could also exam what those energy demands are, and why.
Sure, examine away. But I have more confidence that we'll continue to have good old fashioned American entrepreneurs, motivated by free market profit incentives, like this guy . . .
http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/20130730-editorial-father-of-fracking-george-mitchell-changed-a-nation.ece
to meet our future energy needs than in a bunch of eggheads who want live in caves!
Conservation sounds like a good idea, but you guys have probably already got the "low hanging fruit" in your caves--going from something like a tiny percentage of energy use to an infinitesimal percentage isn't really going to change anything--sounds like it's a pseudo-religion for you.

Hmmm, could be because you've apparently had no or at least insufficient economic training. If you had, you may still think bad policy choices are being made, but you probably wouldn't be "completely perplexed."

true blah blah
until you include the cost of the water used by the evap system
then in overall costs I would guess they are somewhat the same

AZ has spendy water. They got screwed... but not as screwed as Mexico.
Swamp coolers work fine in Tucson, as long as it ain't monsoon season.
Best cooling system I saw in Tucson was a 10'x10' patio surrounded by mosquito netting and full of plants: jasmine, basil, mint, jojoba, etc. A gentle mister and a large fan to suck air through the patio and into the house... dreamy.

swamp coolers wont even work in Tuscon.
my swamp cooler worked just fine most of the summer. Once Monsoon rolled in I had to switch to AC. but three out of the five months when it was needed is hardly "won't work". Rong again.

Yep, funny that... the real world vs Ron's understanding of a single case
Here's where I was staying, pretty typical scene using google earth... the large boxes on the roofs are swamp coolers. I'm sure most people have them because they "don't work."

Way to go chuffer... taking stupidity to the next LEVEL.
Hey, guess what... Low income earners are burdened by the COSTS OF ANY ENERGY SOURCE just as much as rich households.

hahaha blahblah,
have you ever met George Mitchell?
do you know he is very interested in funding science and education?
I was at a Nuclear Physics conference he helped sponsor down in Galveston, TX a few years ago.
He's a good guy, and certainly a mover and a shaker, but he wishes he had studied physics...
oh, and he may not be the only one involved in developing Fracking...
He's dead now (that's sorta why I mentioned him, I recalled reading a recent profile of him in the Economist).
Of course fracking was developed (and I imagine is continuing to be developed) by people using science, without quotation marks, because there was profit in it. That's fine and is the American way. I imagine the Koch brothers employ quite a few scientists and engineers.
It's all this government funded, mamby pamby climate change studies stuff that we need to keep our eye on. These guys clearly have a financial interest in keeping the climate change hype (and hence their funding) going strong.
A potential problem is the boy-who-cried-wolf effect--the exaggerations have turned off the public, when it probably is a good idea to cut down fossil fuel use for a variety of reasons.

Show me ,any denier ,how much we spend on CC science, scientists or study.
It is all at the GAO website.
It involves MATH,so i do not expect to here from any deniers soon.

A/C, swamp cooler, pshaw!
I have a whole house fan, slab foundation, and structural insulated panel house. Run that baby at low speed all night and the house is downright chilly in the morning. Close up the house and it stays under 80 when it's 100 outside. Of course it only works in certain places and you have to build that way.
If the people worried about GW are utopians that must mean Chief is a dystopian.
