Hey, I heard something about Glen Beck murdering and raping a girl in 1990? It's becoming very controversial, as he hasn't refuted the charge in any way.

It just seems like the right thing to do...to investigate it fully...donchathink?

From:

On the face of it a ground based defence against Iranian missiles in Czechoslovakia was absurd. If you wish to defend do it in boost phase, something that our fleet could accomplish. Did anyone think to ask why Iran was going to attack eastern Europe in the first place?

You might argue Bush's real intention was to get boost phase capability on Russian sites. But why would Russia have sites there? Had any bases been located there they would have immediately countered by moving them north where they should have been in the first place.

All of this could have been avoided had Karl Rove said to George with a knowing wink, "A potatoe." George would have responded, "Unh?" Rove would have had to explain insertion of a potatoe in a small pocket in W's pants would be sure to get the Russkies in an uproar.

The Iron Curtain was built because 20,000,000 Russians had died in WWII on the eastern front and they intended not again to be invaded.

George's love for the role of schoolyard bully quite simply rendered the US Government ridiculous. He had bought into the New American Century propaganda saying the US was the World's Only Superpower and he wanted to get off on it.

Perhaps potatoes are the answer to some of the ongoing behaviors in the US today?

You really have to wonder.

End of re-post

Today's papers report that the US has decided to use Aegis class cruisers for the interception of ground based missiles in the M/E. Those ships have extensive capability for satellite downlinks and other real time sensor fusion. They were designed for target rich fleet engagement which is what this will be. There will be countermeasures and Aegis has been designed for exactly that. None of us know the present disposition of satellites in the National Technical Means Suite but they can be moved around and more can be launched. I have also seen reports of development of extremely high speed subatmospheric missiles.

If we had had proper leadership during the past administration we would be a lot further along than we are. We have wasted far too much time and we need to stop wasting it.

A president who will listen to no one limits the entire country to the intelligence
possessed by one person. Our dialog regarding Iran has been both stupefying and stupid. Right now we have more than enough capability to make the Iranian leadership very uncertain as to what they can do. When they decide to act they will face a situation where success is uncertain but the incoming punishment will be very certain. On top of that the Iranian people will become less and less willing to fund expensive efforts when their usefulness is not at all clear.

I wish I understood why dialog in the US is so poor.

It bodes ill.

Edit: ROK.
I understand we have three carrier task forces. At one point we had two of them in the M/E. They represent a fixed cost. The additional cost of stationing one or a portion of one in the M/E would be an incremental cost. Just guessing it might be another 20% on the fixed cost.

And yes I said there would be countermeasures. There is a risk of engagement. But Iran would also face a risk in engagement.

That's what war is.

we can all agree that barry is a liar; the question should be is he lying now when he promises cost savings from national health care? or was he lying two years ago when he claimed that such cost savings are "just a theory"?

Jeff:
You are right. For that matter I think if certain technology transfers would assist Israel in putting antimissile forces in place, we might well do that. But for the near term our exisiting capability is essential for introducing uncertainty into Iran's planning. And, once in place the system can further develop its assurance using each new missile test conducted by Iran. We know the statistical performance data for our assets and within that envelope we can run a simulated intercept on each Iranian launch - real time. Being able to predict launches from satellite data and being able to predict, very quickly, the missiles impact point will need to be a well honed process. The sooner we get on it the better.

In a real sense the Iranian situation is a golden opportunity for us. Russia has an opportunity to develop relations with M/E countries and it is in its interest to do so. It is not in Russia's interest for M/E countries to be lobbing nuclear weapons at each other. If the US thinks things through carefully we have an opportunity to work with Russia where our interests coincide. That is a golden opportunity.

Now on a different topic and speaking generally.

To a significant degree, here, we seem to consider making assertions and giving personal opinions without also indicating our reasoning process or data, to be "dialog." It is not.

Five cents and a personal opinion will get you a five cent cup of coffee.

Give your reasoning, data, and priorities and we have something to discuss.
Otherwise, unfortunately, not.

jstan,

I think this thread has three different, broad, sub-threads. First is the good-natured ribbing implied in the thread’s title. It’s hard to take seriously a thread title that asks why the Republicans are wrong about everything. Everything? Really? This leads to the banter between Dr. F. and fattrad, for example.

Then there’s the pure venting. This occupies much of the thread. I try to ignore it, although the recent attacks on Largo offended me enough to speak against them.

Finally, there’s real attempt at dialog. Many posters on both sides engage here. I enjoy your posts, and those of several others, left and right, in that regard. For those posts, I agree wholeheartedly with your request that we get facts and reasoning, not merely slogans and conclusions. I would suggest, however, that a lot of the slogans and conclusions are merely a subset of the banter sub-threads or, as is often the case with , say, many of SUP’s posts, challenges that could start a good debate if people would respond with argument and data, rather than ventilation.

You are certainly right about the multiple purposes. (Invariably I read your posts more than once.)

If it were possible we might have a separate amusement thread. But that of course is not possible.

People vent because they feel powerless. People feel powerless because they dare not risk failure. Risking failure is what MAKES one powerful.

Petie came up with a neat amusement photo idea. An elderly gentleman in a electric wheel chair with a sign on it saying, "Property of Medicare." The gentleman holding a sign saying, "Down with socialism." She has a bumper sticker that is even funnier. "I'll hug your elephant if you'll kiss my ass." This or something as bad is the level to which discourse in the US has sunk.

We only amuse ourselves here in the US.

There will be no future.

More Liberal lies that will cost you money.

CARB's lead scientist..got his Ph.D. by mail for $1,000..

..California Air Resources Board's rules on diesel emissions will devastate parts of the (CA) state's economy for no scientifically valid reasons..

Hien Tran admitted Dec. 10 to CARB that he lied about having a Ph.D. in statistics from UC Davis. Instead, Tran said, his Ph.D. was from "Thornhill." Nevertheless, the air board still voted unanimously to adopt the rules based on his research Dec. 12 -- without acknowledging Tran's deception. Months and months later, Tran was demoted,

Fattrad, yes I think Rudy is defineatly selfish. Look at his family relations, the sign of a selfish man. I still think he's better than many Repubs that high in the party, at least he can see more than one side to an issue.

The guvinator has his faults but I think he's in govt. for some good reasons. So not selfish... but he's not conservative either.

Too far liberal and you are a bleeding heart.
Too far conservative and you are a selfish prick.
Pick your medicine, but it seems to me a bleeding heart is much less offensive than a selfish prick.

You know how genius is "the exact opposite of everything SUAP says?" He's like that episode of Seinfeld where Georege Costanza does the opposite of all his instincts and is right on everything. So I'll now refer to him and Cantstandya.

Cantstandya, when you engage in teabagging are you the top or bottom?
