OK, you oblivious 'racism is not happening in US politics' GOPsters-with-head-up-arse....

As suggested, here's a small sampling of some truly horrible, racist images that exist in the media right now:

(Note/WARNING: Most are in very, very poor taste, and if there is a strong response to delete this post, I will gladly comply.)

I've seen e-mails with similar cartoons sent by relatives who think this sh#t is funny. No way in hell would they vote for a black man, but McCain is A-ok.

But I'm sure there are plenty who would like to believe that he is the only one sending such e-mails.

A very, very small sampling. All you have to do is Google Obama's name next to whatever racial slur that strikes you, and there is plenty of evidence of the racism that exists in this country (still).

Pull your heads out, HWD (and others)- it's happening right now, all around us. Right Now.

Edit: HWD- "When one resorts to charges of racism where there are no grounds for same..."

Pull your goddam head out of your arse, Lois, and look at the pictures.

There are plenty of offensive picture, skits, names (Caribou Barbie, the MILF, etc. also come to mind), and, as I said earlier, plenty of racists. How does the existence of racists contradict the arguments of the posters against the Democrats? Were those pictures offensive? They were to me, but they were also red herrings. Are you saying that only whites have racial prejudice? Only Republicans? Only the uneducated?

Here in California we have a very long history of institutional racism against east Asians, most of it perpetrated by Democrats. A great many members of the party that gave us the Korematsu decision still can't seem to abide a race-neutral admission procedure to the UC system because "too many whites and Asians" get in. Does this make the Democrats' economic policies, for example, bad? No, it's irrelevant.

There's plenty of racism to go around. Responding to policy arguments with charges of racism unconnected to those arguments represents, to me, an act of sloppy thinking at best, but more likely, a manifestation of too much intellectual isolation and group-thought, that leaves the poster unable to deal with viewpoints that differ from his or her own.

I think must of us would agree that anyone who says that any government entitlement will only go to people (citizens or otherwise) to whom it is intended, either speaks from ignorance or deception. Since politicians holding national office lack that kind of ignorance, any politican of any race or political party who makes such a claim lies. Since politicians of all races and parties make such claims all the time, I guess that means most of us hate all races and parties. If so, racism and prejudice have no meaning.

"Has anyone in this thread posted something racist? If so, call them out on it."

Been there, done that, John. Over and over and over. I can easily provide specific examples from specific persons if you like, but what's the point? The racist images that have been posted here (most recently 'witch doctor Obama') very clearly demonstrate the level of implicit acceptance of racism that exists in several ST members. Calling them on it will bring as much change as calling them on referring to Obama as a Nazi. This level of hate and derision is engrained in some people way too deep to believe that 'calling them on it' would have any real effect.

"Your blanket accusations of Republican racism demonstrate smallness. If I offend you, tough. Get over it."

John, you are one of the very few GOP'sters here on this thread who has demonstrated rationality and fairness- even if I don't agree with you- in your posts- for that, I am very grateful. Some posts can convey the impression of a blanket statement that GOP = racist, and for the record, I don't believe that to be true. I do believe, though, that where racism exists in this country today, the contemporary ideology of the GOP serves their warped interests far better than the Dems.

Feel free to 'offend' me with ideologic differences- I enjoy the challenge, and the opportunity to learn. When hate or negativity is aimed at another human being, though, as has been demonstrated by some in this thread, and in this country of late, I will not abide.

"When he got angry, it was a black man standing up there telling him what he didn't want to hear. If it had been Bill Clinton, or Hilary, I really don't believe he would have shouted, "You lie!""

I think another factor is the tactics bred to disrupt the town hall meetings. The GOP has encouraged disruptive and disrespectful behavior in public venues and Wilson was just continuing the trend.

Of course the trend in the first place is based on seeing Obama as an outsider with a socialist agenda that's inherently bad, evil and anti-american. That's why discussion of health care reform, needed in some form by everyone in a broken system, has been treated as if Obama wanted to take everyone's guns away and tax white people for being white. I mean come on....Tons of old people on medicare crying and yelling that they don't want government involvement in Health care (except theirs of course)

please

Peace

"There's plenty of racism to go around."

John, your last post seems to attempt to distract and dilute the presence of racism at this point in time- i.e., using the Korematsu decision to point out that it's everywhere. Don't know if that's your intent, but whatever.

Fact is, racism is present in our society at all times, has been for a long time, and will be for quite a while longer. Racism becomes more prominent and visible when an incident or phenomenon related to a particular individual or group comes into the limelight- such as a black man becoming POTUS. This racism existed during GWB's terms, Clintons, Bush I, Reagan, and on an on. One would hope (and I do believe there is evidence to demonstrate this) that this racism is declining from generation to generation. One of the most important mechanisms in this progression is an event that pushes the issue back in front of the eyes of citizens, showing that yes, it still exists, and there is progress to be made before it achieves any real resolution.

Writing it off doesn't assist this progression. It's real, and it needs to be constantly re-examined and discarded, if our society has any hope of real progress.

awesome: barry has canceled the missile defense for europe

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125317801774419047.html

awesomer: the reason?

"the decision was made to better protect U.S. forces and allies in Europe from Iranian missile attacks"

awesomest: the result?

"Russia on Thursday welcomed the news, but said it saw no reason to offer concessions in return"

On the face of it a ground based defence against Iranian missiles in Czechoslovakia was absurd. If you wish to defend do it in boost phase, something that our fleet could accomplish. Did anyone think to ask why Iran was going to attack eastern Europe in the first place?

You might argue Bush's real intention was to get boost phase capability on Russian sites. But why would Russia have sites there? Had any bases been located there they would have immediately countered by moving them north where they should have been in the first place.

All of this could have been avoided had Karl Rove said to George with a knowing wink, "A potatoe." George would have responded, "Unh?" Rove would have had to explain insertion of a potatoe in a small pocket in W's pants would be sure to get the Russkies in an uproar.

The Iron Curtain was built because 20,000,000 Russians had died in WWII on the eastern front and they intended not again to be invaded.

George's love for the role of schoolyard bully quite simply rendered the US Government ridiculous. He had bought into the New American Century propaganda saying the US was the World's Only Superpower and he wanted to get off on it.

Perhaps potatoes are the answer to some of the ongoing behaviors in the US today?

You really have to wonder.

I tremble at the implications of this.

And now, Dumm Dumm calls Largo "Gay".

Brilliant stuff there.

I'm sure a 12 yo could spend all night thinking of an insult for him and not come up with that doozy.

PEBBLES, why do you care so much about who is gay or not?
What does this have to with a political thread?
Everyone knows that people like you who like to accuse others
of being homosexual are themselves very, very gay.
Yesterday you got nasty with me and I told you to come over
here and I would bugger your ass. You got SO excited!

My offer to you is still good.

Come on, I know you are secretly gay, you know you want it.
