Same as it ever was.

"...This is the pro-business, the fiscally responsible party -- or at least that's what they keep telling us," Lockyer says. "And it's getting annoying. It's irresponsible and it's ridiculous."

The bill advocated by Lockyer was little-noticed and noncontroversial, but vital. It would have given the treasurer more wiggle room to renegotiate so-called letters of credit that are about to expire with banks. Without the legislation, he says, the state could end up paying banks an extra $850 million over the next two years.

"It got all botched up with a temper tantrum," Lockyer says. "What's pretty clear now is this: Senate Republicans will abandon domestic violence victims, cops, firefighters and taxpayers to do the bidding of corporate interests."...

"I was embarrassed," says Sen. Abel Maldonado of Santa Maria, the only Republican to cross party lines and vote for the bills. "I said, 'I'm here to govern.' They wanted all three things or nothing.

The racism charge is, itself, full of bigotry. It equates southerners with racism, whites with racism, those who are different from the posters with racism.

The caricatures of those with whom our leftists disagree as fat, ugly and white retain that bigotry. I had posted much, much earlier about my mother, who is, essentially, a Communist and an early Obama supporter, changing her mind after hearing so many of Obama's speeches making so many empty and contradictory promises. Posters immediately accused her of racism. She was jailed at age three for being of the wrong race (in the 1915 Ottoman Empire), and she and my family hate racism because we've been victims of it.

Obviously, that racism charge was thoughtless, but it merely demonstrated the inability of a few with one viewpoint to comprehend the existence of intelligent people disagreeing with them. Frankly, the latest racism accusations on this board do no better. While I think anyone with much multi-cultural experience knows that individual racists abound (although the racial identity aagainst whom the animus is directed greatly varies), I find it intellectually lazy and insulting to use racism as an excuse not to respond to arguments counter to one's beliefs.

Has anyone in this thread posted something racist? If so, call them out on it. If not, knock it off. Your blanket accusations of Republican racism demonstrate smallness. If I offend you, tough. Get over it. There's been enough good discussion on this thread (and good-natured banter) to make it worthwhile. There's also, however, been lately a great deal of ill-natured spewing of hatred, prejudice and ignorance. Enough!

"YOU GUYS ARE POSTING OFFENSIVE STUFF! IF I OFFEND YOU THEN TOUGH. GET OVER IT."

What was that about contradictory statements again?

Touche, HDDJ!

That was a fine reply, but my point wasn't that it was offensive, rather that it was intellectually lazy. Keep those brains working.

I have come across quite a few images that are either blatantly racist or walk right on the edge of it. I have been pretty repulsed by many of them, but now it strikes me that it might provide for a pretty good show of evidence of what's out there.

Whaddya say- open the racist floodgates, and post all of the most heinous, blatantly-or-borderline Obama racist shite you can find? Let's really explore whether racism is at work here...

"Has anyone in this thread posted something racist? If so, call them out on it. If not, knock it off."

It's been said many times, but apparently people are not reading things at much depth: There are more forms of racism than simply a fat old white guy "hating" a black guy because he is black. This is the guter level, Jim Crow racism for which few if any on this list are guilty.

I don't think anyone here is suggesting the far right is engaged in this kind of racism.

Racism, it's in us; some more than others.

Wilson, when calm, has been and will be totally respectful towards Obama. But if he was angered to the same level by the words of a white president I don't think he would have reacted as he did.

In anger and drink is the truth often exposed.

I don't think Wilson is sitting around having racist thoughts, but for him and many others there is an ingrained feeling of there being a superior us and an inferior them especially when it comes to race.

When he got angry, it was a black man standing up there telling him what he didn't want to hear. If it had been Bill Clinton, or Hilary, I really don't believe he would have shouted, "You lie!"

If there's one thing you can count on from Liberals (thank God), it's that once they've been proved wrong about a particular issue,

they'll arrogantly refuse to admit it and continue to flaunt
their contempt for objectivity and sound judgment endlessly
thereafter.

Their inevitable reaction to being confronted with the accusation
that their actions and words are indeed unreasonable, is to
become even more unreasonable.
