Hi Bobby,
This is Carol here the Scottish nurse who looked after you in
Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC.
From what I'm reading you really did not like our ( air and noise), and I am delighted to hear that your getting better and making significant progress.
Remember Bobby (small steps ).
It was a pleasure taking care of you and getting to know you and your beautiful family who never gave up on you. Faith your sister is aptly named because she was there for you always. By your bedside night & day & never gave up hope that you would come through this . Prayers from New York and, as far away as Bonnie Scotland are being sent to you and yours.
Love & hugs
Carol Anne McGowan.
"God bless you Bobby keep listening to the music."

Yes.... may this Thanksgiving be especially joyful for Bobby, his family and friends as Bobby continues to recover. The love and energy of Bobby's friends is a critical component in this process... now more than ever keep that inspiration alive. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love to all, Sharon and Bill

hey B - been hearing little cool tidbits through friends and your sis about progress you are making and am just really, really proud of you. I heard through your buddy Bill Hatcher that you pet a dog, Ella, that he brought by for a quick visit a few weeks ago and that was such a touching and wonderful thing to hear. And we hear you're communicating with different hand signals, my favorite was hearing about the "thumbs up" gesture upon hearing something you are in favor of. Keep it up buddy! We're all waiting patiently for you.
xo big hugs,
Liz

Hi Bobby,
It has been awhile since I've posted to your forum. Just as I said before, life is about change, and it seems that things are changing for you for the better, My life has changed some as well. I still think about you alot. I actually have a small Bobby shrine in my clinic office that reminds me to send my positive energy to you. One of the pictures was posted to your forum that your friend Mallamo took. It is of you in Skardu, Northern Pakistan and it is a very good picture. The other picture I took at Norwegian Olympics, you are hanging upside down from the rope swing by one arm and one leg.
A couple weeks ago I dreamt that we were all having a good time, like back in college. You were completely back to being the Bobby we know. I dreamt this right before awakening, and they say those are the dreams of the future.
Miss you ,
Love Heather

a hearty hey, to bobby and faith, and your folks, over there...
fall is here and winter is in the air...
but first, there is a time of thanksgiving, that many do share...
it comes from our heart, and encompasses our past-days of roaming here-and-there...
one roamed-road, has been rough for you, bobby and faith...
but the good lord has been by your side, through this awful, hard race...
the new races to come, springing like light, upon the new day's window sill...
can bring thankful hearts, in spite of this past trial, even still...
as thankfulness runs deeper than just having a path of ease...
true thanksfulness puts us in awe, of overcoming things that we wish had not come-to-be...
by this we see, there is more to us, than we have ever known...
a deeper beauty, and quieter stength, that now will shine, and yet, not for US alone...
all hard chores, dear bobby and faith, will one day give life to other folks, 'tis true...
if they should ever face hardship, and sorrows, unjustly due...
you have been an inspiration, bobby, and a dear friend to many, with all your world-wide "explores"...
yet, now, your success with new goals, can richly touch many-a-folk-more...
may you both, and your folks, have the best time of thankgiving, ever...
and may the good lord wipe away any tears that still seek to linger, as if haunting-bad-weather...
and may some sun, shine through the winter-season's days ahead...
and bring you the strength that comes from the love, that sits around your bed...
as you hold hands and have a thankful heart, for this holiday season, so near...
may you be blessed deeply, in reaping a great harvest of joy, in that your family, is still able to embrace each other, this year....
bless your thankgiving, with this special family time...
and may you, bobby, enjoy this holiday, in ways most-pleasing, and just down-right fine!

Hi Bobby, Faith and Family,
The news of Bobby's progress in Denver is wonderful!! So incredible to hear!! Glad the trip to Denver went well.
I grew up in Denver, about 8 blocks from Craig Rehab. Not sure where Kindred is, however. But I will be in Denver this coming Sat for a late Thanksgiving with the family, and would love to visit Bobby and the family on Sunday or early the following week. How do I contact you about a visitation?
Only Bobby knows me, and I've only written one message several months ago on this forum. However, I believe he will remember me. Even if he doesn't, it will be a positive thing to visit with him and to hopefully meet some of the family.
Again, Faith, your spirit is a tremendous inspiration to me, and to hundreds of people!!! I send you my prayers that you recieve what you need as you provide such a powerful and indescribable service to your beloved brother!! And to all of us as well!!! It will be an honor to meet you and to visit with you!!
dhayward@wyoming.com is my email and my phone in Laramie is 742-6307 if you want to contact me for anything or to let me know how to contact you about a visitation.
All My Love and Prayers, Dan Hayward

Does anyone have a more detailed update on Bobby's progress? I have read bits and pieces from some of the previous posts, but would love to hear more about how he is doing, progressing, how he is responding at Kindred, etc.

FIRST OF TWO UPDATES FROM FAITH:
Dear All,
First off, thanks again to everyone for the steady stream of incredible
support! Our gratitude is infinite.
Bobby continues to do well at Kindred and and has gotten a few days of real
sunshine! Progress is steady and all is well.
We recently had an important discussion with some of the staff at Kindred
about the visiting schedule/protocol for Bobby. We have all (including
Bobby) been touched by the support and the company, but there is a concern
that Bobby may be getting over-stimulated at times, which can be
counterproductive in the recovery process. Because of this, we need to
better regulate visiting hours and there may be days where we will have to
restrict visitors depending on how Bobby is doing. This is such a critical
time for Bobby in terms of healing and while we can see that he is eager to
engage and move forward, his physical body also needs time to build strength
so that it can support his cognitive recovery. This is a difficult and
sensitive balance because being with friends and family is also a very
crucial part of the healing process. So please bear with us as we navigate
through this so that all is aligned with Bobby's highest good.
The most important thing we ask is to please call my mom (307) 899-1586 or
me (303) 883-6734 before stopping by and we will figure out the best timing
for everyone. Popping in is hard on Bobby as he has a very routinized day
and it's important to maintain the structure.
The visits should be roughly 30 minutes, but if Bobby appears tired OR a
little too wide-eyed, then the visits need to be cut short.
Because of Bobby's history of pneumonia, it's also important to wash or
sanitize hands and wear gloves, which are located at the door.
Thanks to everyone for being so understanding and patient! You're all a huge
blessing.
With love,
Faith

NOV. 20 UPDATE FROM FAITH:
Dear All,
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am moved to let you all know of the infinite
thanks we hold for this incredible support system. I've learned a great deal
about the things in my life that I am grateful for and want you to know that
we send thanks and love to all of you every day. And I am ever ever grateful
to my brother for being so strong in this journey; he is an inspiration.
Many apologies for not writing an update sooner, but things have been hectic
(in a good way). Bobby is doing so well and we anticipate a move to Craig
sometime next week. He is communicating well with his right hand and is
using all sorts of hand signals, clicking carabineers and playing with
bouldering holds and basically anything he can get his hand on. His left arm
is week, but he is beginning to move that a bit more every day (and the team
at Craig will work on this as well). An evaluating nurse from Craig arrived
at Kindred on Friday and asked Bobby if he felt he was ready for Craig and
he immediately gave her a thumbs up! The news is all tremendously
encouraging and I think we're all ready for this transition.
In other news, I am heading home to Kenya as I write and will be unavailable
on my phone (altho I can check messages). I'll be back on Dec 3rd, but will
always be available on email and my number in Kenya is: 254-720-733-550. My
mom will be in Denver and her cell is: 307-899-1586.
Because of the transition to Craig, the visiting protocol is a little up in
the air, but just call my mom and I will also keep everyone posted.
Happy happy Thanksgiving and thank you, thank you.
With love,
Faith

Hey Bob-Meister,
There are so many things I want to give thanks for this year, great job, great country I'm working in, great friends, great family, great life ... But this year, there is ony one thing I really give thanks for: for you, for the way you are doing, for the fight you are putting up, for Faith, for your parents, and for all those who are there for you.
Happy Thanksgiving, Bud, I miss you and I keep thinking of you.
And, as always, I hold you close in the back of my mind,
Charlotte
