A little bike ride yesterday.
Well, at least the first half was aerobic.

Eating yams, drinking coconut water, stretching, psyching up for the Mammoth Marathon tomorrow, storm is pounding right now, but its supposed to be somewhat clear, and cold around race time. Last race of the winter for me, Monday I head to the Valley for a spring break/Easter family reunion and some climbing.
But tomorrow its all about skating, 42k, new course, 4 laps all above 9,000ft. Should be burly!

4.52 miles in 58 minutes on the stairmaster this morning. Ortho. said no wheels till shoulder heals so now I'm doing a circuit of 5 Ab machines every other day. That's probably better for Abs anyway, rather than just wheels alone. The wheels were really good for upper body, maybe the new job will pick up some of the slack.

7 km run yesterday, followed by helping my son move down three floors and up two. I figure 1500' vertical feet carrying stuff.
Will do a 24-27 hour caving trip on Friday in Kentucky.

Sure was fun running the Boston marathon naked, Backwards today! And no one else on the course!
Okay, now that April fools is out of the way....
24 mile men bike ride, 82 mile week, 529 miles ytd
Pullups are up to date, 4278(?) today was day 92, so thats what I did, but my new obsession is that on strong days, i'm trying to do them in as few sets as possible. The last three days I've done them in 4 sets. Today I tried for three but only managed 87 in three and did a final set of 5. i've been doing this by spacing them out through out the day and in the last few days (except for today) doing them with shorter rests between the sets.

Aerobically worn out this morning...The marathon was burly, excellent conditions, 8" of fresh snow, sunny skies, cold temps, well groomed for the most part. 4 laps with a couple of good climbs both of which reached 9,900 feet in altitude. I finished 13th overall which is okay, but I was 5-9 minutes behind the guys I can usually hang with on the shorter races. More survival than racing... Need to change something up in my training to get better at these long ones. Some other great climbing friends from BITD raced as well, Rick Cashner did the 21k, Claude Fiddler did a good job on the 42, Jeff Schloss fast as always in 9th.
Ready to begin climbing season, off to the Valley this morning!

Peter, good job down there at Mammoth. That's Colorado style altitude and it can make results a bit unpredictable. That Schloss got 9th indicates it was a tough field.
We keep getting dumped on up this way. The last race of the year in the WA/BC area is this coming weekend at Whistler Olympic Park, the Whistler Woppet, a 30k on great trails at a decidedly lower altitude than your Mammoth adventure.
If the sun comes out we may have some good spring skiing...

Did my usual 20 sets of fingertip chins on the hangboard but could only manage 6 reps per set vs 8 reps last week. Does anyone else see such dramatic swings in their strength/hangboard work from week to week? My cardio doesn't seem to suffer the same dramatic swings in performance. Could be the age kicking in.
