jghedge, try coming out more than 4 times! you have to accept it for what it is and enjoy the awesome climbing and awesome community. I' m sick of people speaking poorly of SP when they have barley given it a chance. There IS a reason so many incredible climbers climb/climbed here. All I can say is you ARE missing out!!

oh we will have fun at stoney climbing routes/problems that take traditional technique(smearing, mantles...all that good stuff). Please have fun clipping bolts in the santa monicas. Just watch out for those glued holds when you crank on them. wouldn' t want to take massive whippers on them bolts. : )
EDIT: not trying to sound like a jerk, but i love stoney and it bothers me when people call it crap!

People have always put Stoney Point down, it's easy: broken glass, graffiti, crowds and kids and weird stuff.
But I always loved the place. There was just something about that rock pile in the spring with its green grass and its boulders. The rock seemed almost soft and forgiving compared to the sharp, harsh granite of Tahquitz and the Valley. I still dream about the place, and some of the moves on those boulders will always be a part of my consciousness.
I watched folks like Kamps and Chouinard and Long and Bacher and Dent and Warender and Bender and Boche and learned, and as well, I met the greatest people out there. Stony Point offered me so much: an escape into possibilities, adventures, friendships. Let people say what they will about it, for me the place was a jewel set in the banal context of the San Fernando Valley and it gave me things I will always be grateful for: the realization of my own potential and an encouragement to adventure.

Hay Joe....why bash Stoney?
If you dont wish to climb there fine.
You should thank people for going to SP.
That way they don't come and play at all the cool spots in the other MTs.and crowed you out.
But don't worry, we still love you and cant wait to see you around.
Peace Bro.

I guess people don't realise that for most of us, Stoney is just a place to go AFTER WORK when we have a spare hour or so, to get in a bouldering workout. We don't go there on our days off. Then we go to all the GUD places, like Yosemite, Joshua Tree, The Needles, Tuolumne, Seki, etc, etc, etc...sheesh.
Those of us who live within a few minutes drive of Stoney are truly blessed with an awesome resource that could never be duplicated in any indoor gym.
Haters will hate :)
It's like RJ hating California and not actually having a clue.

I dare say that most people would be better, stronger climbers if they spent some time at Stoney. The place gives you weird kinds of finger strength that is hard to come by anywhere else.
And the friendships that I have made at Stoney will always be there. Besides, where else can you find so many young people willing to be tortured by some old guy who shows them a few problems to 'try'. Muahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Jan it' s not stoney that give people that finger strength...it' s you showing everyone you Sh%$ micro crimp problems!
And who said we are willing to be tortured by you old farts...not willing but we deal with the torture for some weird reason. I think it' s because some of you are kinda cool for being old and all.
EDIT: I call them "sh%&" micro crimp problems because i can' t do them.

Joe, the same could be said for Rubidoux, Santee Boulders, etc. And have you ever seen those crappy boulders they climb in Central Park?!
And I whole heartedly agree that we got gypped. But we did get Malibu Creek, uhhhhh...

If Yosemite was north of the Arctic circle you would have never heard of it. Everything in life is about location. The fact is most of the people who defended Stoney Point - Like G_Gnome, Guyman, rincon, myself have climbed all over the world & probably been to more of the Sierras than Jghedge can imagine.
& then there are the young ones like Mbrown to good to even count - & experienced. & there are a number of these QUALITY young men & woman & they can climb.
The poor guy is letting his feeling get in the way of reality.
Stoney Point is like really fine wine in a beer bottle. It take a while to figure out it's not bad bear it's wine & then a little longer to figure it's not just wine but it's an excellent wine.
