Your friends have no problem with "camp."

When did you leave Santa Cruz, Gypsy, and for how long have you lived in Asheville? You probably said, but I forgot, if you did.

There was an excelllent all-woman band from Santa Cruz in the nineties, one of whom had spent time in W.Africa honing her drumming skills. One of their best songs was titled Big Girl, I think.--"I'm a big girl now..."
It was a quite large group of seven or eight.

Do you recall them?

A song for your son, with his close call.

And I have been trying to find Pele Juju's name for months, now. THANKS.

Liz and I and Scott saw them and John Prine at the Music Festival up at Kennedy Meadows in '91 or '92. Liz loved them. I liked John Prine. We each bought tapes.

So I got it now Robbie; John C. Mellencamp is Randy's dad. Thanks mouse.

I don't know, just something about authority, it's always been sinister to me.

I will not work on Maggiore's farm any more

Credit where credit is due.

PLAYBOY: How do you get your kicks these days, then?

DYLAN: I hire people to look into my eyes, and then I have them kick me.

PLAYBOY: And that's the way you get your kicks?

DYLAN: No. Then I forgive them; that's where my kicks come in.

"Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death.
If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness,
then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present."

Probably still want a haus, obwohl.

JoYo Cooking was an American folk-rock band formed in 1967 in Berkeley, Otros California. They were led by two women, pianist Toni Brown and guitarist Terry Garthwaite (also known as Ruby Green)--the two collectively known as Terry Green-Brown.

The rest of the band consisted of bass guitarist David "Umber" Garthwaite (Terry's brother), drummer Fritz Kasten (Old Man Kasten's kid) and percussion player Ron Wilson (not related to the Beach Boy Wilson, but the Bruce Wilsons).

Keyboard player Stevie Roseman replaced Toni Brown for a time (adopting the nom de guerre Stevie "Brown Rose-of-Texas" Styles) and bass players Happy "Mauve" Smith and eventually Jeff "Taupe" Neighbor replaced David Garthwaite on bass guitar. The music was a mix of "hippie" sensibility on blues and folk roots, and the lyrics often reflected feminist or environmental themes, mon.

Joy of Cooking recorded three albums with Capitol Records. Brown and Garthwaite had solo careers afterwards and also released albums as a duo.

In 2007, Brown and Garthwaite released an album of previously unreleased Joy of Cooking recordings from that era, including their only live recording. There is a rare recording, unknown to most collectors, of a cover by the original group of the Stones' song When Blue Turns To Grey (When zBrown Turns To Soul).

I'm not dripping hip, am I, when I mention that one day on Telly I ran into & had coffee with, Old Man Karsten, at The Med.
He had no clue about the mountain in his family.

I am too late with the Royal Blue Warning. We're now all dead, buried in an avalanche of words and pictures about climbing!

Terry Brown was one of my former wives, but the real issue is who paid for the coffee and was he wearing his rad (not that rad, the real one) lab suit?

Breakfast Politics

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Smokey Joe's Cafe (1620 Shattuck Avenue, no phone) claims to be the first vegetarian restaurant in the country. (''Where the Elite Meet to Eat No Meat,'' boasts the menu.) Take a seat on one of the swivel stools at the counter for a bird's-eye view of Ned Getline, the owner, manning the grill in front of a panoply of political posters dating back decades. The food is nothing fancy (try the solid ''urban cheese omelet,'' $6.90) but the clientele is worth the visit. Members of the National Puzzlers' League can often be found at the back corner table, pencils poised over truly difficult crosswords. ("And ye shall be judged by the viscosity of the batter of thy vocabulary."--Jememiah Pankake)

I had a meal here one morning with local climber Dan Ake--Berkeley High, Mtn. Traders, TNF, cool guy with one of the Nicest Moms Ever--and it was filling, plain, and worth the price (it had to be cheap) but I can't remember the year, mid-to-senties, I guess.

Apathy house rule (no kidding):
No cross words before breakfast coffee. STFU.

on second thought it was brother Ron who worked at the lab. computer nerdism seems to run in the family

Creedence or no Creedence, Berkeley is an incestuous, self-righteous town blessed with an unparalleled concentration of mostly self-righteous talent. The far-from-adolescent protagonists of Joy of Cooking, with their roots in everything but rock and roll, could be predicted to turn out music that makes up in art, as they say, what it lacks in vitality, fun, and the common touch. Their album, however, is already moving up the trade charts, and when there's a tour, it can be expected to break big. If it's hard to imagine the band exciting young teen-agers, it's not because the music is sterile but because Joy of Cooking is a very adult rock band. It's adult, however, in the youthful way we try to be adult--without abandoning freshness and spontaneity--and so young teen-agers, who are not as predictable as older teen-agers like to think, can also dig it. After all, it has vitality, fun, and the common touch.

And on and on.

We are all ancient teen-agers. Eventually.

Down the hill and out the Golden Gate to the Farralones we go.

By way of Malaga, Spain--not California.

Cuz you don't want to go climb this choss.
It looks like a stumpy version of this.
And smells like guano on a hot day.

Hours of Fire (Horas de Fuego)

Stillness, laziness, languor, calm ...
contorted sun gilds the ground,
and his brave glare
which left him fascinated and blind.

The Latin sea, and Andalusian, and Greek,
hints of blackberry cadence sighs,
Gentile and pitcher cries pearls
nap swings in gold and fire.

White-blazes the city;
or a breeze sways the trees,
tearing slow melodies.

And on tenterhooks tone of the environment,
cover your lipstick fresh laughing
in their mouths torn watermelons.
--Salvador Rueda, Wiki x-slaytion

Horas de Fuego

Quietud, pereza, languidez, sosiego...

Al rojo blanco la ciudad llamea;
ni una brisa los árboles cimbrea,
arrancándoles lentas melodías.

Y sobre el tono de ascuas del ambiente,
frescas cubren su carmín rïente
en sus rasgadas bocas las sandías.
