Clause Celebre & Christmas Presence Theater present
The Day I Became A Christmas Present
by St. Nicholas Niceman
I'm standing in a brilliant beam of white light, so blinding I can almost see through things. I can't move, no matter how hard I try, and I am trying with every single cell, every nerve, all my will, but no use. Above me is something metallic, dome- or round-shaped, covering much of the sky. I am furious for my lunch is overdue. I demand of "them" to tell me answers! I want answers! But they don't care, and keep me frozen inside this beam.
"Where are my reindeer," I thought. "What has happened to them?"
"Indeed, Santa, or Satan, whoever you are. We will tell you eventually. No harm has come to them."
This was too relieving to tell. My deer are like my kids!
"My name is Santa Claus. It's not Satan. I'm real, he's not. Who are you freaks that you don't know the difference?"
"We come from another galaxy, far, far away, and necessarily from a time much distant in the past, as you reckon time. We are on furlough. We are soldiers of Christ. He came here once on a dare. We wanted to know why. I think we have seen almost enough, however. You are our last project. We want to know why you give presents to everyone who claims to have acted in a good, socially approved manner. Where we come from good citizenship is its own reward. Is this a bribe of some kind?"
"No. Parents tell kids they are going to be rewarded for good behavior all the time. It's experience which gets kids to do what you want. They need to be trained. It's part of love. You train your kids to do right, they do right. Your let them have their head, they often fail in life.
When they see it's for the best to act in approved ways, they deny their wicked urges on their own see, when they are raised correctly and lovingly.
In the meantime, you need to get them to understand that nothing good ever comes of bad behavior. Dogs are just the same, and my reindeer, for the matter. They are so independent-minded out of a herd, you wouldn't belirve it. Tf I had fewer than eight of them, I couldn't handle the team.
By the way, how is J.C.? He sure caused a ruckus when he left."
"We hear He's visiting hell again soon. We went there last Wednesday. Not a nice place, far too warm all the time, unless it's too cold, nobody stops talking, either. You can't sleep. It leaves a lot to be desired. Anyway, he and his Mom are taking a cruise and it's one of the ports, you know. I don't know how the rumor got started that it was here on earth. This is paradise, by comparison. All the places Christ conquers should be this sweet. We're going now. You will awaken in no pain. And your deer have been fed and watered. Gabriel has been guarding the gifts. Live long and prosper thru giving."
I woke up in the back seat of the sleighmobile, Donder licking my nose. I gotta switch to decaf, man.
My neighbor, Smokey, 78, just came to his door to receive his share of the Christmas booty: toffee and cookies from Scott and Jen, and a pkg. of Starbucks instant and a big old bud. He took the pkg. and started crying. How nice has your morning been?
Oh, and I just tossed the story off an hour ago, took a nap, dolled it up, and it's done now. I'm dedicating it to good old neebee. Thank you for everything.
Merry Christmas to the Walsteads, Peg & STeve! Did you get the Red Ryder, Throwpie?

Take some time to listen to this recording if you haven't...
Dickens at his absolute best could never have accomplished this virtuoso reading.
It airs tonight on WGTE, originating from New York State someplace at 7:00 their time, so it's at 4:00 PST.
Jonathan Winters reading A Christmas Carol. One you'll always remember.

He is getting around with a walker a little better. He sees the doctor on Thursday. Hopefully the staples in his leg will come out then and the stitches on his forehead.
And yeah, he seriously looks like his dad, Randy

Faith is the surrender of the mind; it’s the surrender of reason, it’s the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other mammals.* It’s our need to believe, and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated.--C.H.
*Call me a stupid monkey. But if I believe I have a soul and he does not believe he has one, that stupid monkey Hitchens doesn't have to worry about going to hell and he's no better-off than a monkey except for the shoes, etc. Gee, he sounds awfully well-read to be such a prick.
But in charity, I'll overlook it. He's the overrated one.

sinister is (among others) wicked or criminal or
giving the impression that something harmful or evil is happening or will happen
coming late to the discussion, does he give an explanation of the progression from faith to evil and what the actual consequences are?

zBrown I am not sure what Mellencamp's first name is as I don't think I know him. Perhaps Mouse knows. The name is familiar but I cannot remember if I ever met him.
