After yesterday's run I'm creaking around like an old (er) man hard to stand up from a chair etc. I did get in a flat 5 mile bike ride to try to put off rigor mortis....not sure it helped.

you guys put me to shame, but it motivates me to do more..

I can remember when I decided to start running. Went over to Newport Harbor High School and could barely do 1 X 440 lap around the track. I hung in, kept gradually doing more and more. Start from wherever you are and build up.

"Kali muscle man" - Big strong dude, but I've seen alot more consecutive muscle ups. Wonder why Zimmerman didn't confront him.

"71 Year old ab roller" - Well OK I'm only 65 and I don't do 'em in my pajamas and a do-rag, but yeah I can do it (I use some carboard to roll on which increases the drag), but I'm tired at the end. No one ever video'd me so I hadn't seen it, but check out those tri's flexin'.

Goatboy - cool ride. What are the intercoastals? New term to me.

Maysho - don't know about the intervals but the 42K sounds like fun, my cousin in Finland does some long treks.

Jaybro - Whatcha gonna do? I started out on my first run today and knee was sketchy. To be safe, I went and did 90 on the elliptical instead. Last time I "ran through it" and was limping for a couple of weeks. BTW this is a fun and useful thread you created.

Funny definition of "aerobic" to include strength stuff...

My weight work-out left my glutes complaining. I was plodding about and noted an "older" man merging onto my run. Not about to go down easy, I picked up the pace going down the hill. Eventually the man catches me and gives me hell about youngsters purposely embarassing the older generation. I noted that I qualify for an AARP card. A fun conversation ensued. He mentioned that he began running in high school and figured out that was a fountain of youth. He became hooked for life. Between the two of us, we had over 80 years on the road.

Funny how the whining muscles complain less when the "competition" shows up!

I once ran a trail marathon outside of Truckee ( serene lakes) when I was maybe forty. Just before the start I noticed a women in running attire breast feeding an infant. I passed her early on....then at mile twenty five she passed me while deep in conversation with a white haired man who turned out to be 68. When I finished the run she was already nursing her kid at the sidelines. It had been just over four hours and it was time for the young'ns next feeding, the 68 yr old had decided it was time for a beer. Fitness comes in all ages and categories......

Mr Eastman, the reccuring strength training thread drift was introduced, agreed upon and thus sanctioned, over a year ago, try to keep up.

Thanks Jaybro, I'll go back and read the some 700 posts to see where I got of track...

... meanwhile, it's the middle of ski season up this way with some 300 in at Baker for general fitness based activity on XC and touring skis...

Strength and aerobics go together hand and lungs.

David Googins, who lives here in Chula Vista is certainly no slouch in the aerobic arena. As a precaution he doesn't park where it's not allowed and never wears a hoodie in public.

I hear that. I find myself doing comparisons, but usually come back to just comparing me to me. I remember pursuing running more vigorously when my father had a heart attack at the breakfast table and died at age 62. I've stuck with strength training when I found that if I coupled it with running my weight went down and stayed down and I could drink those tasty beers.

Gott go (run).

A good week, 75 miles. Mostly on the bike, but I did get in the one 17 mile traIl run.

I'm so behind on my abs quota I may never get caught up. Pull ups however, are up to date; 3655, today was day 85.

It's all going to change I'm going on the road soon which is going to mean more climbing, less training. I hope it's going to mean more and more adventurous trail runs.

I have a pretty regular chin-up and hang board routine that seems to be reaping rewards and keeping me injury free (knock wood). By rewards, I mean it has allowed me to climb lower 11's (and an occasional mid 11), which for me is good at 62.

I do my chinups on a Metolious Simulator on the second row of crimps from the bottom i.e. one pad. I do a set every minute for 20 minutes and am currently doing 8 reps per set. I have a great iphone app that allows me to setup intervals of high intensity and low intensity and it changes music on each change.

After the chins, I use the iphone app to do 20 more intervals but these are simply dead hangs from the bottom row of holds on the simulator. 10 seconds on, 50 seconds off. I will sometimes use the two finger pockets with the first two fingers for one set and the next two for the next.

I only do this workout once a week and add three sets of bench, flys, and dips to hit the opposing muscles.

Cardio is currently 4 miles three or four days a week.

Checkin in !!! Yesterday ran 15+ miles of very dim trail in the desert north of Phoenix. A good day. Complete with the obigatory rattlesnake strike.....whew that was a close one. Closest yet. MY friend ran past it, stirred it up and there it was right in front of me. Ran right over it. Got home jumped on the scale....,.hmmm been around 156 lbs last night checked in at 159 ???? Well I do know I'm better off for it.

Anyone elses weight range 4 lbs day to day?

The app is Seconds Pro. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/seconds-pro-interval-timer/id363978811?mt=8

I love the fact that the music changes with the interval, you can set a warmup and cooldown and the color on the phone and playlist for each can be set.

Did hill climbing intervals on my 2 x 10 yesterday. Almost puked! First race of the season less than 6 weeks away so it's time to be hurting...
