the 1956 Plass paper named a few effects to follow to validate theories. Seems to me he was spot on with temps following reduced solar activity from then into the seventies followed by extraordinarily high activity cycles and rising temps. The CO2 hypothesis he laid out as temps following in line with atmospheric CO2 content seems to be in deviation of prediction as of late.We await a major volcanic eruption to test the other hypothesis.
I have an idea where the your missing temps could be-perhaps dissipated in oscillations of an expansive/contractive atmosphere. Wouldn't take much.

I beg your pardon-what about the return of the Ice age scare of the early seventies? Seems to me that implies the acknowledgement of a cooling trend of the immediate past, one which popular hysteria projected would accelerate in the future.
What's clear is that we had a rapid transition caused by both an increase in Solar activity and positive phases of oceanic cycles in the late seventies. Look at temperature records in Alaska and other arctic zones for validation of that fact. Look also at 1998 for northern hemisphere wide validation of the overwhelming forcing effect of oceanic cycles-not mentioned in the Plass abstract.CO2/temp increases do not show as good of correlation.
Now what about my "expansive atmosphere" for a face saving out for the CAGW crowd. I don't know where the idea came from, probably somewhere in the 30 inch stack.

Climate Change Denial book now available!
Climate Change Denial by Haydn Washington and John Cook The book Climate Change Denial: Heads in the Sand, by Haydn Washington and John Cook and published by UK publisher Earthscan, is now available for sale. You can order from Earthscan, Amazon or NewSouth Books (for Australians).
The book examines the phenomenon of climate change denial. It looks at the many techniques of literal denial, where 'skeptics' deny the evidence for man-made global warming. It exposes denial within governments, who make a lot of noise about climate change but fail to back it up with action. And it examines the denial within most of us, when we let denial prosper. This book explains the climate science and the social science behind denial.

Blah blah blah blah. Your problem, chief running mouth, is that you don't understand the science, can't bother to learn the math behind the models, then when you get schooled on it, change the subject with some "who gives a sh#t ?"response, insult the scientists explaining it to you as zealots, and post pics of Cairo, arrogantly presuming that you understand what those people are thinking (Newsflash: you don't).
Frankly this is more of a response than you deseve. You're too arrogant to stfu and listen for a change.
I'll just go back to posting humpy barfing dog photos.

What a complete ass you make of yourself on each and every post. To believe that The Dalai Lama had never "been to school" completely discounts his 18+ years of intense religious study, earning him the equivalent of a PhD in Buddhist Mysticism granted only after a 3 MONTH PUBLIC ORAL EXAM. http://hhdl.dharmakara.net/hhdlbiography.html
Lincoln may have dropped out of public education in 4th grade, but he spent years educating himself with the legal and social texts of the day, allowing him to sit for and pass the Bar Exam.
You should follow their examples and not be such a uneducated putz.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt Ed and subscribe your lack of real world observations to direction bias from being in the grips of the mass hysteria movement that is CAGW. You said, "the temps did not decrease for decades". Look again at the GISS 1999 graph posted by The Chief and you'll see a decline into the 1970's and then a sudden rise upwards. Other graphs show the pronounced spike of the super El Nino of 1998. Now, what this 1999 graph and many other unaltered temp reconstructions show clearly is that their is no linear increase of temps following increased atmospheric CO2 content. Rather, the global climate responds both immediately and in varying degrees of delayed action to the overpowering forcings of solar maximas and oceanic oscillations. We have now entered a prolonged period of global mean average temp stagnation and solar activity and oceanic oscillations point to the distinct possibility of a pronounced and prolonged cooling period. Sure, their will be localized hot and cold spots, perhaps even more pronounced in the near future from the sharp phase transition we are in, but as the global mean temperature flatline or actual decline of the last dozen years, the prolonged northern hemisphere winter of 2013,the severe European winters of the last 3 years, the recovering sea ice, the distinct polar cooling, the distinct overall u.s. summer 2013 cooling (twice as many cool records versus warm records this year), the growing antartic sea ice and down trending continental temps show, the CO2 forcing is very feeble compared to natural variation.

And this one, NEVER went to "School"
That's quite an uninformed post re. H.H. the Dalai Lama.
from http://hhdl.dharmakara.net/hhdlbiography.html
The Dalai Lama's education as a Buddhist monk began in earnest when
he was six. **After eighteen years of intense study, he graduated with the
equivalent of a Ph.D in Buddhist metaphysics**. It was granted after a
three-month oral examination in public before thousands of monks and scholars.
In 1958 he took preliminary examinations at each of the three monastic
universities, Drepung, Sera and Ganden. The final examination was held in
1959 at the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. That morning, the young scholar was
examined by 30 scholars of logic. In the afternoon, he debated Buddhist philosophy
with 15 scholars, and in the evening, 35 more scholars tested
his knowledge of the canon of monastic discipline and metaphysics.
The Dalai Lama passed with honours, attaining the highest academic degree
of Geshe Lharampa, while under intense political pressure from the Chinese to
capitulate to their demands to take over Tibet.
and http://www.dalailama.com/biography/a-brief-biography
His Holiness began his monastic education at the age of six. The
curriculum consisted of five major and five minor subjects. The major
subjects were logic, Tibetan art and culture, Sanskrit, medicine, and
Buddhist philosophy which was further divided into a further five
categories: Prajnaparimita, the perfection of wisdom; Madhyamika, the
philosophy of the middle Way; Vinaya, the canon of monastic discipline;
Abidharma, metaphysics; and Pramana, logic and epistemology. The five
minor subjects were poetry, music and drama, astrology, composition and
phrasing, and synonyms. At 23, His Holiness sat for his final examination
in Lhasa’s Jokhang Temple, during the annual Monlam (prayer) Festival in
1959. He passed with honors and was awarded the Geshe Lharampa degree, the
highest-level degree, equivalent to a doctorate of Buddhist philosophy.

Didn't the Dalai Llama get run out of Tibet by atheists? Aren't these the same type of people, by and large, who are supporting the CAGW scare in an increasingly transparent attempt to seize the freedoms and prosperity of the citizenry? What special kind of ignorance does it take to follow such fools?

Just like CHILOE screaming to save the Natives of the North environment. When they have far bigger and devastating problems that need attention. Drug and Alcohol Abuse, 70%+ Unemployment etc.
That's yet another ignorant statement in your long list.
Academics specialize. Chiloe talking about alcoholism and unemployment in northern native communities would be akin to, well, you talking about climate change.
It's simply not your area of expertise, just like alcoholism and unemployment aren't Chiloes areas of expertise.
Yours is a flawed logic, and it leeches into your discussions of science.
Why do you keep doing this to yourself? You're making yourself seem like more of a joke to be ignored with every post you make.

Yes Norton, I thought you would appreciate that-from another thread. Actually though,it's fascists disguised as socialists wrapped in the cult of scientism for public consumption.
Fort Mental- I pioneered retroactive abortion discussion some years ago with the term " post partum abortion", its never too late. Now, if all these fools that preach deindustrialization and the concept of mankind as a disease on the body of the Earth would just practice what they preach by self curing their disease the rest of us could carry on without discord amongst each other while directing our discontent against the real enemy-big business and big government.
