Jim Brennen1 Per your request:
Does anybody know anyone who read an Ayn Rand book after 9th grade high school was over ?

Yes, but I was a bachelor, a fast reader, & I enjoyed reading.

Post college, when I was in my early 20's & running a retail outdoor store, I read The Fountainhead & Atlas Shrugged. I remember nearly nothing, so they must not have made much of an impression.

But then again, at about the same time, I read 4 or 5 F. Scott Fitzgerald books. Likewise, I remember very little, except how rich & decadent his characters were.

I usually keep books I enjoy, but I retained zero by both authors.

Left to their own devices, there’s no way those human orangutans are going to develop a civilized society, or elect me. So say I, partisan sage of the ages.

But the orangutans and civilized society said differently. Try not to notice.

That's what fast reading will do for you - LOL.

Libby was convicted in 2007 of lying to the FBI and obstruction of justice in the investigation into the leak of the identity of Valerie Plame, a former covert CIA operative. Then-President George Bush commuted Libby's 30-month sentence, sparing him prison time, but didn't pardon him.

After Libby claimed that he couldn't have been the source of the leak, multiple people came forward to testify that they learned of Plame's identity from Libby prior to when Libby said he had first received the information.

Pardon me.

Why did you fart?

Why yes I did.

From the NY Times article on FLoppy Don's reversal on the TPP agreement:

The Trump administration says it has ordered the Agriculture Department to create a program to help farmers hurt by (Trump's) trade (war with China). Trade advisers say the department could use a program known as the Commodity Credit Corporation to purchase potentially billions of dollars of crops from American farmers harmed by tariffs.

The GOP is now officially the FOSP.

The FOSP wants to cut social security and medicare, because they say those entitlements are what Made America Weak. But, the FOSP is anxious to hand their farmland voter base billions in welfare payments.

It has come to the point where anything that comes from the FOSP must be passed through a transfer function to obtain an intelligible, accurate signal.

Input [-1] = Output

In other words, any statement from the FOSP must be reversed or inverted in order to obtain a statement that corresponds to reality.

Those doublespeak examples look more like euphemisms to me.

"Fox News" is a euphemism for biased partisan propaganda.

"Fair and Balanced Reporting" is doublespeak for biased partisan propaganda.

I guess some euphemisms are considered a type of doublespeak.

Here's an award that Trump won in 2016. It's not shown if he won't it three years in a row, but he should have.

Intersting point made in the NYT review of Comey's book and something that I have noticed; Trump has no sense of humor.

And Comey explained how he interpreted the fact he never saw Trump laugh came from his “deep insecurity, his inability to be vulnerable or to risk himself by appreciating the humor of others, which, on reflection, is really very sad in a leader, and a little scary in a president.”
A measure of our acceptance of who we are is our ability to laugh at ourselves. If Trump could watch Colbert and laugh at himself I'd respect him a lot more but it won't happen. Another observation I've had is that Republicans never seem to make good comedians; what's with that? I laugh at myself all the time for the stupid things I sometimes do (so I guess I can't actually laugh at myself all the time, if you catch my drift). Still, humor is an understanding and acceptance that we are all frangible and human.

I realize today that nothing in the world is more distasteful to a man than to take the path that leads to himself.

The right-wing rabble-rouser Ann Coulter recently declared at a talk at Columbia University that the President was a "shallow, lazy ignoramus" and that she's now a former Trumper. "If he doesn't have us anymore, that's what he should be worried about," Coulter later told The New York Times. "He's not giving us what he promised at every campaign stop."

Washington (CNN)US law enforcement officials announced a $20 million reward Thursday for the newest member of the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive list, Mexican drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero.

Caro Quintero, a senior leader in the Sinaloa cartel, was charged with conspiring to murder Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique Camarena Salazar in 1985 as part of a continuing criminal enterprise in a federal indictment unsealed Thursday in Brooklyn.

Cohen spoke with him on the phone. El Trumpo and Cohenhead were going to turn him in and split the 20 million. Then Trumpo would pardon him and Quintero would make a 10 million contribution to the 2020 campaign to give ...

I know this thread is about the end of Trump but it is very likely he can be remolded and made into a bright and shiny (thing), a person that too many will give undeserved respect to. I think our system is capable of making this happen. Rather than the Querencia Phase it will be the Gentrification Phase of Trump.

President Dennison is just doing his job. It's the same job Reagan and George W. had, just taken to a new level.

Trump reformation.

Not likely.

Trump has read too much about how manipulable he is.

Trump is a shape-shifter. He reads his audience, and transmogrifies into what they want him to be.

It is entirely possible that Trump will have a moment of clarity, and recognize that his Floppy Don The Bully Boy act isn't going over as well as it did when he was in the fourth grade.

But, I think it's too late, even for that.

Michael Cohen's entire existence would not have been raided by the FBI wielding a no-knock warrant, unless there was more to find out than who pays Trump's Mustang Ranch bills.

Trump went crazy when Cohen was raided. When his other friends have gotten into trouble, he has remained calm. This time, the net came just a bit too close to his lair, and he came aggressively out of his hole, jaws snapping.

An innocent person doesn't behave that way.

It may take as little as less than ten minutes within a single thunderstorm, or longer than a million years - but lightning will eventually strike the same spot again and again. A strike to any location does nothing to change the electrical activity in the storm above, which will produce another strike as soon as it 'recharges'. The previously hit location is then just as fair game for the next discharge as any other spot.

However

More than 100 people have now been slaughtered in Cancun since the beginning of 2018, as Mexico’s cartels continue to spread fear throughout the country.

In late 2015, AMI, parent company of the National Enquirer, allegedly paid a Trump World Tower doorman $30,000 over a rumor from the late 1980s that Trump fathered a child with a housekeeper. AMI is denying the payment was ever made. The doorman says he can now talk about the rumor, but can't talk about the payoff.

In other words, the doorman's rumor is no longer relevant, because Trump won the election. But, the payment may be highly relevant, because if it was made, people could go to prison.

The National Enquirer says it didn't publish the spawn-of-Trump story because they didn't think it was credible, and they only print the truth.
