Bruce-

An internet forum is where people are supposed to have a reasonable discourse, a standard sadly lacking much of the time. You however, are trying to turn it into a courtroom with you as the prosecutor and people who have different experiences and views as the accused in the witness box. That's why people are annoyed with you. Don't think that because we don't call you out on it, that we don't observe your smug self righteousness. You are as draped in the Canadian flag as any American militia is in the U.S. flag. I know because I visit family there frequently and I have been subjected to your tactics many times.

Bingo!

America... love it or FUKING LEAVE IT.

You don't like the laws here... move to Mexico or Canada or whatever.

Remember when you idiots espoused that solution for those of us who PEACEFULLY protested an unjust war?

You want to FIGHT for this country? You WILL lose.

Dirt you call that weird,

I call these guys scary and a threat to sane civilized law abiding people. These are the people that raise up kids that when they loose their minds shoot up schools and blow up buildings,..

Jan you are wrong with the Canadian gun laws bear story. Plain wrong. Your relative should have fixed it herself. Could have. Just like my neighbours have 12 times. We are allowed to have a loaded firearm unlocked by the door when we live in the busy and if you are far enough out, a big handgun to keep bears at bay. But the rest of your discourse is interesting.

I'm surprised none of these militia guys wrapped themselves in the flag so that when they are shot, tased or sprayed the images go viral. I guess shooting a woman and child would work too.

Peaceful protests are great to a point. Perhaps that point has been reached. This isn't about cows and turtles and grazing fees. That's not why 1000+ people drove to Nevada.

Eventually there comes a tipping point and we're approaching that. The frogs are starting to boil.

Unfortunately unorganized men and women civilians with rifles can and will be cut down by forces trained to do just that.

The problem with "militia" units around the country is at least 1/2 are probably federal or state agents themselves. It's the best way to meet your government agents! So if things do take a violent turn there will be no unit cohesion. No communications. No chance.

But the people will learn from these mistakes. Once that line has been crossed IMO there is very little a government can do to contain it.

I'm going to relate a real world experience that never made much in the way of headlines, but it DOES involve the BLM and one of my neighbors.
It serves to illustrate my total lack of regard for the BLM. I'm not sure of the dates involved but it occurred sometime in the 1996 to 2000 time window.

The gentleman involved was Rory Cross, who at the time lived around 10 miles up the road from me at the end of the pavement. At the time he owned something like 27,000 deeded acres with substantial BLM and Forest Service grazing leases for summer pasture, and ran ~ 1,200 head of livestock. He was scrupulous in paying his fees, and took great pains to avoid overgrazing the allotments. In the Fall, he had approximately 500 steers on the leased grazing, and took portable corral panels up to the high country along with his ranch hands and horses to do the roundup and remove his animals to his own deeded lands for subsequent sale. It took 3 days of hard riding through some steep and difficult terrain to complete the roundup, but the 500 head were all in temporary corrals awaiting some 18 wheeler cattle trucks for transport. The BLM had been monitoring the entire proceedings from the air with a helicopter. For what reason I can't figure out, the BLM pilot decided to "buzz" the camp and the corrals.

Needless to say, the results were not pretty. The cattle all panicked, tore down the corrals and scattered over a 15 square mile area. Mr. Cross was livid, to say the least. He grabbed an AR 15, jumped into his pickup truck and drove to the BLM base camp a few miles away.

The exchange was heated, and Mr. Cross informed the BLM that if they ever did something that stupid again he would shoot them. Fast forward a day or 2; the FBI showed up and arrested Mr. Cross, who was quickly released on his own recognizance. Why was he so pissed, you might ask? He's spent 3 days riding around the hills on horses and paying 6 cowboys to work for him; that was all lost; and running or stampeding cattle caused several to be fatally injured, while the others were stressed and many became ill; not to mention the weight lost that is what is purchased by the cattle buyers in the livestock auctions. On top of that he subsequently needed to hire a top notch law firm to defend him in court. he had "threatened a Federal officer," was the charge. After losing $500,000 as a result of being buzzed and the consequences evolving from the follow up incident, the BLM continued harassing Mr. Cross.

What they had not counted on: Mr. Cross was in addition to being one of the largest ranchers in Wyoming, happened to be the Speaker of the Wyoming Legislature and was very well connected politically. To deal with the BLM he finally called Bob Dole, at that time Senate majority leader. The BLM receive a notice from the Senator that their appropriation for the next year's budget had encountered some problems, but it could probably be resolved. After which there were no more problems. This is, to the best of my recollections, the exact story. How do I know all this? Mr. Cross and I have shared lots of good Scotch together, and his brother was my next door neighbor.

This all happened before the Militarization of the BLM and other agencies, which began on GWB's watch, but has been ongoing unabated through the BHO presidency.

Eventually there comes a tipping point and we're approaching that. The frogs are starting to boil.

Because of the Affordable Care Act? Or because we have a black president?

Honestly, how is this a tipping point? The court orders started in 1998. Several attempts have been made to remove the cattle, as early as 2002. Every time the LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS have been met with threats of violence.

You all need to wake the fuk up. The Fux at Faux and Co are using your stupidity to try and stir violence. This situation does not call for violent outrage on the part of SANE US citizens. Bundy's broke the law, repeatedly. They are FAR outside the VERY REASONABLE laws that govern our society. There is no gray area here... it ain't their land... they have grazing PRIVILEGES as long as they pay the fees... they are criminals... and you support the use of violence to defend their criminal actions.

Fuking pathetic mindless bullsh#t.

Geez, it isn't like threatening to shoot someone is a crime or anything... derp

The "news article" was "sanitized" somewhat. I also know a few of the cowboys who were his ranch hands at the time, or who were neighbors helping out.

The assault and battery charges were brought by a Canadian truck driver hauling Canadian cattle to Denver. Not a popular thing to do those days, especially when the economy really sucked.

Rory subsequently sold his Wyoming ranch and moved to Nebraska---where there was no interaction with the BLM.

the citizens were armed for self defense to avoid another Waco or Ruby Ridge.[/quote
Let's tease that one out a bit.
At Waco, they were given EVERY opportunity to surrender. They were abusing children. The Feds let it get out of control on both sides.
Ruby Ridge was a Fed fkkk up plain and simple. However, the Feds had been trying to negotiate Randy Weaver's surrender (on firearms charges) from Mar until Oct 1991 when the firefight broke out. Weaver had plenty of chances to avoid conflict. He even had a court appointed attorney but Weaver wouldn't meet with him. ATF made a lot of administrative mistakes that might have avoided the shootout. But like Bundy, Weaver had every opportunity for due process.

At the Waco disaster, there is plenty of blame to go around on both sides. However, the (Republican Senator) Danforth report, November 2000 (commissioned by Atty Gen. Janet Reno) debunks most of the sensationalist claims of FBI violence.
the Special Counsel was directed to investigate charges that government agents started or spread the fire at the Mount Carmel complex, directed gunfire at the Branch Davidians, and unlawfully employed the armed forces of the United States. A yearlong investigation ensued, during which the Office of the Special Counsel interviewed 1,001 witnesses, reviewed over 2.3 million pages of documents, and examined thousands of pounds of physical evidence.
.
...Special Counsel Danforth concluded that the allegations were meritless
The report does call into question a lot of the tactics of the FBI
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_Siege

At Ruby Ridge the agents were hidden in the woods and shot first (killing Weaver's dog). Then Weaver's buddy shot and killed an FBI agent. It all went to pieces after that.
At Bunkerville the Feds were out in the open and didn't shoot.

At Waco the siege went on for 51 days. The Branch Davidians were never going to surrender and they had a large number of children inside. They had an arsenal of heavy weaponry ...AK47s, AR15s modified for auto fire, 50 cal rifles and much more. 1.9 million rounds of ammo. Rifle grenades, bullet proof vests.

There are no meaningful comparisons between Bunkerville and Ruby Ridge-Waco (which were indeed human tragedies) except the "victims" refused the lawful authority of the United States.....for extended periods of time.
Not a shot was fired at Bunkerville. Given Bundy and his "militia" persistently refused the authority of the United States and the history of Ruby Ridge and Waco the Federal agents were right to be armed.
So the Feds have learned something over the past 20 years. They're not ENTIRELY stupid. They WILL get their man, just not this week.
(Is it entirely a coincidence that Bundy stopped paying his fees shortly after Ruby Ridge?)
