The German word for today is Schadenfreude Delighting in the misfortune of others.

The Gauchos will have a tough time tomorrow with the Dutch but I can't imagine it will end up anything like today's historical result.

I'm not sure that "Schadenfreude" is the right word to describe what happened today, it was just a blow out. Maybe that word works, but it's not a typical example where a single English word doesn't really exist to describe that emotion. The Germans just wanted to win the game, nothing more than that.

Also, the word you want is "historic," not "historical."

blahblah...it's the Argentines who are delighting in the misfortune of the Brazilians, not the Germans. The Germans are basking in the glory of their historic victory.

You can really tell the teams that are focused from the ones that are segmented.

Thanks for the clarification. I would have thought that the Argentinians would have supported their fellow South Americans against a European team, but what do I know!

Playing defense seems to be a low priority with the Latin teams, sort of like matainance, which is why nothing every works down there. Those Krauts had a lock-down D, but their offence simply ran right over the Brazilians. Haven't seen that kind of blow out ever.

Dude! Baseball is not an athletic endeavor. It's a boring ass activity for chubby dudes in tight pants. There are some fit players but ALL WC futbolistas are true athletes.

except for Costa Rica, of course, who only received two goals in five games, and one of those was a penalty kick, the other was when they were playing with 10 men.

QITNL - major thread drift dude (that photo of Walton and you (?) deserves it's own thread). Enjoy the A's now, because come October we all know they'll be at home watching the World Series on the couch, again.

Just watched the first half out of one eye--seemed pretty even to me but with an advantage to Argentina in terms of control of play and something like scoring chances (to the extent I can tell).
The score is 0-0 to those not watching.
At least it's a close game--nothing at all like yesterday.

Holland looked good for a while but then it was like they said, "Hey, we better back off here!"

Lavezzi has looked really good. He has out-Robbened Robben. Perez has been
a solid replacement for DiMaria. Mascherano was definitely on Queer Street
for a while there. He has been a stud back there, hope he is OK.

I don't understand why Robben is playing beneath van Persie. I guess
because Sneijder is afraid to push up there. Seems like Holland is more
afraid of losing than desirous of winning.

Good clean game and the ref has been decent. I think that linesman has
blown a couple offsides on the Dutch which is why we didn't see the replays.
FIFA only shows the replays when they are right.

I see Janmaat is in for Indi. Good move, it was only a matter of time
before Messi ran at Indi and forced him to pick up another yellow.

Did you catch the little OCD dance Lavezzi does before each kickoff? Hilarious!
