another week mostly men bike rides this week
Wednesday 10 miles
Thursday 12
Friday 8
saturday 15
Today was a 16M bike ride and a 10 mile trail tun
71 miles for the week 350 ytd
Pullups were up to date as of yesterday, 2,497. I'm supposed to do 71, today and after that mixed marathon I don't know if that's gonna happen or not.
inverts are at a crisis, I broke the remaining strap on my left inversion cuff, so I'm five days behind on that (at about 2000)
Anyone have a left inversion cuff they don't want?
I've been doing other abs, but haven't figured out how best to quantify them...
The other day I got an interesting email, from the folks at Map my run ( thanks again, enjoimx, for the reccomendation.) They sent me a 3/3-3/9 summary, inyreseting concept. see below. it's inc complete since I didn't track one ride I had mapped previously, and it does't do anything with my pull-up.climbing/other data, still. it has potential

I started Crossfit last week and had an intense first day on Wednesday.... 4 rounds of 27 box jumps, 20 burpees, 11 squat cleans @ 65lbs for time. My legs have been sore since.
Yesterday I was in the Valley to do some rope-soloing. I bumped into Erik Sloan in the Lodge parking lot while I was racking up. At 12:15 we blasted off on Royal Arches simul-climbing. We topped out at the rap station in 1:35!I was huffing and puffing the whole way and nearly puked twice. I kept on keeping on by taking a few more steps....then a few more...and so on. I slowed down a bit at the traverse, then sped up after.
I never would have thought I would ever speed climb anything. It was awesome. And today I'm not that sore! It was my first time climbing with Erik and hopefully won't be the last! Super cool dude!

@I&ITW How do you rate the accuracy of that Garmin 500?
I hate running in the rain, but they're predicting 60 mile an hour winds and 12-18 inches of snow on Mt. Laguna. Now that would make for some interesting hiking.

The End of another week.
Only got two days in because the dirt was wet and I'm a wimp
21 Miles on the bike
371 ytd
Kept up with pull-ups, 3093 ytd. Today being the 78th day of the year, was 78 pull-up day.
Woefully behind on inverted sit-ups since my left inversion cuff blew out over a week ago. Am experimenting with a strap to hold the cuff on, and me in it! tentative so far... as it is I'm 930 inverts behind schedule. if this strap thing works I'll make up some of that, not sure if I'll be able to make up the difference though...
This does not bode well for certain ab intensive goals for '12. Hows that for pre-registering excuses?!
After today's bike ride I hit the "Share" button for the software I've been using, to see what happens. Now I believe all the aerobic stuff, at least what I've, recorded on my phone is fb accessible. Odd world we live in.....

Hey Jaybro, how you doin' those pullups? In sets of ...?
I'm feeling pretty good. Since my knee has let up on the pain I was able to run (Mon - 66min and 68min) (Tues - 90min and 64min). I've taken to wearing a Neoprene brace at all times when not running. It really seems to help. The maker claims by increasing heat and blood flow.
These little wheels give a real good ab (and triceps) workout. I sometimes load up a backpack with 20 lbs and wear it while doing them. The backpack approach also works for pullups instead of hanging a weight from a belt around your waste. Another variation of the wheel is to kneel on a bench to start, though I don't think it's that beneficial when considered in light of the increased strain on your back. Also, I put my chest onto the floor on each repetition.
Standing variation - watch your back here!

17 mile trail run. Most of the way up Mt Diablo and back, in honor of Malcolm, a healIng run to send good juju his way. Photos to follow.
About three miles in, note cow trampled trail. The route follows the skyline ridge
4 stomached rototillers
The view back down the same ridge from close to my high point
My "summit" shot
The true summit, another 5? Miles
Back down;
Don't these ladies ever go anywhere else?
This was the first time my feet got sore in five fingers. During recent rain the cows churned up much of the trail dirt. Now the California kiln like sun has baked the clay soil into knobs and ridges, which can be uncomfortable to tired feets. The pain started to hurt the bottoms of my feet about mile 14. I'm counting on a training affect, and will try a longer run next week!
Hey zBrown, I've got one of those wheels too! I use it as part of my Wyde crack core training. My newest technique, a variation on a theme from Shanti; kneel on a Swiss ball and roll out on the wheel normally eventually unwinding the legs so that only the tops of the feet are on it. Takes practice!! As she told me "wear a helmet, really!"
Also, On the pullups, it depends how I feel on a given day. On strong days, I do a warmup and then try to do the quota in as few sets as possible. On weak days I start early and sets of ten/20 throughout the day. Sometimes I do progressive amounts such as the square of the highest number of reps is total for the daily quota. ie, if the total is to be 100, do progressive sets starting at 1, then working up to 10, and back down.
DT, I get that same above the elbow pain too sometimes.

Hey Jaybro - good info. When I first read it I thought maybe you were doing upwards of 70 at a time. That would be very impressive indeed.
I'll give that ab wheel on the ball a shot, had never heard of it before.
It's funny how different exercises have idiosyncratic results (e.g. the lower tricep pain - I've never experienced it). But, I started doing fingertip pull-ups, worked up to 10 sets of 14 and the tendon in my left ring finger started to hurt, so I backed off. What I don't get is why just one tendon and one hand.
Another interesting one I tried was pushups, one hand each on a stability ball and the feet on a third. It went pretty well for a while, but eventually my wrists started hurting, so I backed off.
Another ab exercise, which I'm not able to do very will is windshield wipers (lots of 'em on youtube).
Good for us all!

70 at a time? nah!
I can do about 31 now on a good day. I try not to be over critical on technique so maybe I can do say 34 and the last ones are sub par, but i can fire off 26 perfect ones, etc and the numbers get higher, all the time

V. Good! Prolly excellent.
Now there was some Olympic athlete, I can't remember which event, who used to do his pullups with his girlfriend on his back.

I once did 2 pullups with 110lb ex girlfriend ( not ex, then) on my back and thought I could do more, but then she bit my ear and, um it was all over for that part of the workout.

Picked up a paddleboard for taking long rides along the inter coastal.
Good for two or three hours out every other day with a wicked core burn afterward, very tricky, kinda like slack lining but harder.
