Hey Bobby and Faith,
I know it has been forever since I have seen you both. But I wanted to let you know that you are both in my prayers! I can't wait until you are up and around Bobby, and our paths cross again. Love to you both.

hey there faith...
this is for you, in this long race...
even as winter, which will soon be upon us...
does what it ever-has-done, and must...
and your dear brother, seems dorment to you...
keep wathcing over him, that "precious plant"--and as you do...
take it to heart, that there is a future spring...
and thus, too, for your brother, some new life will ring...
some winters are just harder than others, so it seems...
but the "plant" is still lovely, and not forgotten, in the good lord's scheme...
stay by his side, and keep growing together...
and fight-out-and-through, this bit of bad weather...
you'll find a newer, special bond...
by sitting there, nuturing, each bit of frond...
life may seem to pass on, as you wait...
and the world may seem to "leave you behind', in its wake...
but come a new spring, you will find some praise-worhy notes to sing...
and as with all healing, and newness that re-awakes, may the good lord bless you, with a fullness beyond what pain, did bring...
and may love abound between you and bobby, and your folks...
in ways, that speak of on-going hopes...
prayers and love to you...
you are not forgotten, in all of this, that you do...

hey there... and this is for bobby:
get on up around that bend, bobby... keep making time, there's a whole world before you... just waiting...
Creedence Lyrics: Up Around The Bend
There's a place up ahead and
I'm going just as fast as my feet can fly
Come away, come away if you're going,
Leave the sinking ship behind.
CHORUS:
Come on the rising wind,
We're going up around the bend.
Ooh!
Bring a song and a smile for the banjo,
Better get while the gettings good,
Hitch a ride to the end of the highway
Where the neons turn to wood.
CHORUS
Oooh!
You can ponder perpetual motion,
Fix your mind on a crystal day,
Always time for a good conversation,
There's an ear for what you say.
CHORUS
Yeah!
Oooh!
Catch a ride to the end of the highway
And we'll meet by the big red tree,
There's a place up ahead and I'm going,
Come along, come along with me.
CHORUS
Yeah!
Do do doo do...
by the powerful grace of god, bobby, and pushing-on, you can do it, TOO, someday...
and leave that ol' sinking-ship of past woes, behind, to face that clear-fresh brand new day...

Dear All,
I'm really excited to report that the decision for Bobby's rehab has been
made and to Denver we go! Bobby will be at Craig Hospital, which specializes
in rehabilitation for traumatic brain injuries and has been ranked in the
top ten rehabilitation hospitals in the nation for 18 consecutive years by
U.S. News and World Report. But more importantly, it's an incredible place
and an excellent fit for Bobby. We were all impressed and look forward to
being back in mountain air (and for Bobby to be able to get outside again!).
He will be getting a shunt (to drain excess fluid from his ventricles)
sometime next week and will be ready to move shortly afterwards. The initial
move will be to Kindred Hospital (in Denver), which is essentially the same
as a sub-acute rehab facility geared to prepare people for a more acute
rehab environment. The Craig doctors round at Kindred and will determine
when exactly Bobby will be able to move to Craig (this is determined to some
extent by his level of consciousness, but the average stay at Kindred is 25
days). We will fly to Denver by air ambulance, which will be a much easier
trip from NY to Denver than from Cape Town to NY, for obvious reasons.
In sum, this is a phenomenal step forward. As soon as we know, I'll write
with our exact ETD and a new mailing address.
Thank you ALL for your tremendous support!! The visits. emails, letters,
packages and phone calls mean the world and have helped us to reach the
place we are now. And I also believe the doctors and staff at Mt. Sinai (and
in South Africa) have been touched by the incredible support system that
surrounds Bobby and the quality of his care has somehow been enhanced by
that. So thank you beyond.
With love and thanks and more to come,
Faith
PS We can't wait to see you Bobby! Love, Chris and Brice

Dear Bobby M and Faith....Chris of Supertopo is working today, Sunday, and fixed my access so I could send you a note. I have several stories for you in the weeks to come...but most of all, this week, I have been watching the leaves turn and have been taking photos and thinking of you...hopefully transmitting mental communications of the same. I especially have sent the colour of "GOLD"...that beautiful and striking Wyoming Cowboy GOLD...Some of the leaves remain green but as you well know others are in their various stages of transformation...purples, reds, browns, golds. We moved my Mother to the JH Living Center from Thermop last week so we all got to enjoy the beauty of that drive. I especially love the willows in the marsh around Moran as they turn that fiery purple red. Didn't have the camera, and you would say ??Didn't have your camera??...no excuse...or would have sent a bunch of photos your way.
I am excited, shed a few tears, when I learned that you will soon be back in the West and at Craig in Denver. I will get some photos printed and send them to you. I know you have many friends who are excited that they can drive to see you. Admittedly much older than you, I grew up in Big Horn County (yes, a "Niner") so reading the supertopo messages has been often familiar.
Sending much care and love. Shannon Lucy Batenhorst. Lander.

Hip Hip Hooray! bobby heads west, almost to wyo and Gods country!Faith , thanks again for updates. to all--- a very dear friend and surgeon, 2 weeks ago told me that it is way too early to feel at all discouraged by Bobbys progress and that the last report was so positive. Then, we had margaritas while sitting on the beach at Flathead lake, admiring the Mission mountains and Glacier park.Thinking of, praying for , and toasting Bobbys family and friends. Sarah

I'm SO EXCITED!!! Craig Hospital is about 10 mins from my front door. Model Family, if there is ANYTHING I can do to help i'd be glad to. If someone needs a place to stay it's done. If you all need a place to decompress (read drink!!) besides a hotel room my home is PERFECT!! I'd love to have some type of Bobby Get Well get down at my place. Faith email me below if I can do anything. Or if any of you plan on visiting Denver and need anything.

Hey Bob-Meister,
First off, sorry I haven't been in touch but I was spending some time on the shores of the other side of the Atlantic and did not have good email access. I was, however, able to read some of the posts and got Faith's email, so I, too, did the happy dance when I heard you were heading back West. No disrespect to New York (why not, one might ask, but never mind ...) but I'm sure it will be that much better for you to be closer to so many of your peeps, breathe some fresh mountain air and even peek at those peaks of yours - what better to entice you back to us? Granted, it is a bit farther for me to visit, but believe you me, I'd rather be hopping on half a dozen planes to come West than to drive a few hours to the Big Apple. In any event, I am really chuffed for you and will keep sending good thoughts-prayers-songs-whatever-it-takes your way.
Europe was good ... in a European kind of way. One of the unexpected bonuses was that I was able to see Jules in London, literally between two flights so we did not have that much time, but she is doing awesome and I was able to give her the most recent updates and she was chuffed when I told her how well you are doing. I tell you, as soon as you are better you are going to have to head back to NBO because those peeps MISS YOU! I am still planning on heading over there sometime in the winter, on the way to Madagascar, but my plans are still not firm at this point. On the good news front I just heard that my contract in Morocco was renewed so I will also be heading back there soon. Oh yeah, and there is also a decent possibility that I will be heading back to Senegal before Xmas so the fall schedule should be interesting... I think I'm going to have to combine some of these trips or I will just be too tired to even think of using all the airmiles I'm piling on. In other words, Bud, life is GOOD!
When I was in Brittany I thought about you a lot, first off because I was having a grand ole time (amazing seafood AND local wines) but also because, once again, music brought me closer to you. This time it was Dire Straits, you know the classic "Brothers in Arms" album. I just sat at a cafe, one of the songs played on the radio and I just downloaded the best songs, put them on repeat, and kept listening to them, a big wide smile on my face, thinking of you and simultaneously looking like a complete idiot. It was ... perfect. Ever since your accident, music makes me think of you, as does everything beautiful that I see. Thanks for that, Bud. Oh yeah, and by the way, I actually did a bit of "climbing" in Paris. I was walking along the Seine just before Midnight with a young cousin of mine and he assured me that he knew of a "way" to get into the Tuileries Garden (where the Louvre is located) even though everything was locked down for the night. Well, his "way" involved climbing over a fence and jumping from a small height - so far so good. Now, as you probably figured out by now, jumping down means "climbing back up" is going to be a bit of a challenge... In the end, we just walked towards two armed guards who were patrolling with mean looking dogs and "convinced" them to unlock one of the gates so we could simply walk out. We became such good friends with those guys that my cousin ended up telling them the truth about how we got in and they told us to bring drinks the next time we decide to jump one of their gates. Good times!
Otherwise, it's actually nice to be back in Washington, the summer is still lingering, the sun still shines and I was able to shed my European jeans for old pairs of shorts - not bad if you ask me. I think there are a couple of good flicks coming out soon so I will try and catch them to tell you more about them. A propos of nothing, Grey's Anatomy will soon be back on, so if nothing else we are sure to discover some cool new songs. And we are all still there, waiting for you, thinking of you, sending our love, and smiling a lot when we think of you. I think that's what I miss the most right now, Bud, this big, goofy grin of yours, so, whenever you feel like coming back, we're all ready and good, right here for you.
And, as always, Bud,
I hold you close in the back of my mind,
Charlotte

Here's the newest news from Faith, September 26:
Dear All,
The new and exciting development regarding Bobby's surgery is that not only will he be getting a shunt on Thursday, but they will be repairing fractures in his right eye orbit and performing a cranial-plasty to repair the small section of skull they removed during his initial surgery. This is yet
another great leap forward and further testament to Bobby's steady progress and his incredible strength, will and spirit. This procedure will delay our departure to Denver and right now it looks like we should be traveling sometime mid next week, but I'll definitely keep everybody posted!
The surgery will be on Thursday at 1pm and will take much of the afternoon.
Thank you all again so much for your powerful thoughts and prayers and well
wishes, they're workin!
With thanks and love,
Faith

hey there bunnyboo... i just caught this, wed, around 5:36--eastern time? .... will be praying... will try to hit this again, later tongiht, for others, too...
best wishes to you and the prayers are coming even now...
*say, there... faith, and molly (bunnyboo)... i thought this was for the move... now that i look at the previous post and see it is for the surgery and shunt, and eye, and skull, stuff:
seems this is the best times to fast and pray as well, for the whole day, with the surgery at 1:00, those of us that can, can give bobby a "static free" whole day... making an even more free-and-clear path for him and the docs... why, we can make a right-fine smooth path for him... god bless...

Hey Bob-Meister,
Well, today is the big day, so I wanted to wish you all the best, good luck, and all that, but most importantly, I wish you some wickedly psychadelic dreams during surgery! I thought of you yesterday (surprise, surprise, I know ...) because I was volunteering at the children's hospital here in Washington, and I was playing with this little kid (maybe 7-8 years old) who is one of our "long-timers" and has been in and out of the hospital for a very long time. So we started talking about what he's been through, I asked him how he fared in surgery, and of course, I asked him if he had cool psychadelic dreams. Now, I don't know about you, but if you've ever said "psychadelic" to a seven-year old little boy, you've probably noticed an interesting reaction ... I just loved it that this little fella was such a trooper and didn't skip a beat at the mention of surgery. Now, I KNOW you're a pretty amazing fella yourself, and that you're not going to skip a beat either, but I wish you the most psychadelic of dreams for today.
We'll be waiting for you, Bud, as we always do, and, as always,
I hold you close in the back of my mind,
Charlotte

Hi Bobby,
I am thinking and praying for you today. All my good thoughts are headed your way. I have to agree with Charlotte. Your smile is what I think I miss the most about you. I see it as clear as day every time I think about you. It is so infectious and warm. You have a good heart and those of us who have been touched by it know it.
I am anxiously awaiting to hear how you pulled through this surgery with flying colors - as always. You never cease to amaze in any challenge or hurdle that you must leap. You inspire me every day.
Your friend,
Janet

Update from September 27:
Dear All,
Surgery was a success! Although Bobby didn't get out until 9pm-ish, it
sounds like the entire surgery flowed incredibly well and the surgeons were
able to accomplish all they set out to do (the team was neuro, ENT and
plastics). Bobby is back in the ICU for a couple days of recovery (bummed to
leave our lovely Central Park view, but the ICU team loves him and they were
more than happy to see us again). My mom and I just left the hospital and a
restful and peacefully sleeping Bobby (perhaps a bit drugged too :-)). One of our favorite nurses is on duty tonight and all is well.
Thanks to allllll of you for the current of powerful thoughts and vibes and prayers and good stuff that swept Bobby's way throughout today! These intentions continue to work gracefully towards Bobby's recovery and help to carry the rest of us as well.
With love and gratitude,
Faith
