what the hell happened??
Uhh, no offense and no defense.
The only guys throughout Brasil's cup that have impressed me are Marcelo,
Thiago Silva, and David Luis.
The rest, other than Neymar, are punters. The first 6 minutes of the second
half are proof with those two wasted opportunities. Make that 3.
Make that 4. "Hey, Fred, me mum can shoot harder!"

It's like rolling five sixes in a row. Sh#t happens. Germany did basically the same thing to Argentina in the last World Cup and then got put out by Spain in the next round. What happen to Spain in this World Cup? To me it seems like futbol is more luck than skill.

To me it seems like futbol is more luck than skill. Yes, that's one of the consequences of having a game where goals are unusual events (although I guess they're not that unusual for Germany now!!)
You know maybe Brazil would do better if they just called their players their real names instead of giving them "cutesy" names like Oscar and The Hulk. The names aren't directly relevant, but it shows a preoccupation with silliness instead of the German style efficiency.
Wow, just turned on game to see 7-0. I don't watch much soccer, but in my short spectator career, this is unprecedented.
We're getting a good, proper score now like a real football game!

This football game is unreal... I wonder what the Brazilians have been doing during their preparations.
Finally one for Brazil. Neuer is not happy.
7-1. Congrats to Germany.

After the second German goal Brazil was a deer in the headlights.

OK it's over now.
The Brazilian players are obviously dejected, even shell-shocked, but it looks like there's good sportsmanship on both sides as the players congratulate each other.
I don't know much about soccer but I'm sure all of us have had events in our lives where "the wheels come off," just one of those things.

Brasil need to man up and play the third place game like it is the final,
especially since it will be against Los Gauchos. So, in effect it will be
El Campionato de America Sur.

hard to believe the final score after looking at the game stats (other than goals, of course), which would seem to indicate that it was a fairly even match.

Yep, that is what happens when one team scores 4 goals in just 6 minutes.

I thought Brazil were poor today. The last minute shot by Chile that came back off the cross bar could have sent Brazil out and penalties is just a lottery. Agree with comments above if Brazil carry on like that then they won't get passed Germany.
I predicted a few games ago that Brazil would not make it passed Germany. This Brazil team, as we saw tonight, are quite poor especially if two key players were removed. Having said all that my prediction for tonight was 2 - 0. Didn't see a 7 - 1 coming :)

Wow, I know it wasn't a close good game, but I loved every moment of it. F*#king awesome, but Sunday is the one that matters. Might have to end a backpacking trip early to catch it live.
Really cool to see Klose break the scoring record.
I'd like to see the Dutch play in the finals so Robben knows what it's like to play his teammates at Bayern. Also, would like to see Argentina vs Brazil.

At work, I walked by a tele at 33 minutes into the "game." It reminded me of my college days when our Podunk soccer team played Stanford. Yikes, I wanted to crawl into a hole after the first 15 minutes. Lucky for us, we got to play them both Saturday AND Sunday!! Who the hell scheduled that?
Lucky for Brazil, they looked better than our team did that weekend.

no way 'tina loses. So I'll congratulate the Brasilians for being the best team in South America, among teams that do not happen to be World Cup winners

no way 'tina loses. . . . Perhaps your post is meant to be "tongue in cheek" and I just don't get soccer humor, but if it's meant to be serious . . .
I have followed this World Cup with at least some diligence, and I can assure you that "yes way" Argentina can lose tomorrow.
The expert analysis I have seen has tomorrow's game a virtual coin toss, with Argentina having perhaps the slightest of an edge.
My prediction: I've generally seen European industrial efficiency topping South American "flair," and so I'm going with NL. While I've mostly just predicted favorites and shouldn't brag too much, I have, on this very thread, correctly predicted (1) every semifinalist, and (2) Germany over Brazil.
At least of all of us who predict a closer affair than today's game are sure to be right!

Reilly did you say you thought David Luiz did OK? There are players on the local pub team that could have defended better than any of the Brazilians. That was embarassing.
Could easily have been 10-0. Should have been 8-0 if Ozil hadn't shanked that last shot, perhaps out of a sense of mercy.
If I watch another 40 years of World Cups probably won't see another whupping like that on a football power in their own country.

Steve, David Luis was horrible today. He was responsible for Mueller being
unmarked on the first goal and he was a spectator on the second. But I
thought he was quite good in the previous games. Today there was just no
communication, not surprising given the din in there but those guys shouldn't
need to talk that much. I think they were just carried away with their emotions
and wanted to attack and wing it on defense. Is there a word in German for emotion?
Holland 2 Los Gauchos 1
Without DiMaria they're really hurting in midfield aside from that one guy.
Higuain got lucky against Belgium and he isn't mobile enough against Holland.
Belgium didn't utilize Mirallas' speed on the flank like Holland will and
Holland has proven scorers. It should be good.
