Australia's highest Test run-scorer and former captain Ricky Ponting has announced he will retire from international cricket. The 37-year-old former captain said on Thursday the third Test against South Africa starting Friday will be his last.
Ponting will equal Steve Waugh's record of 168 Test appearances for Australia in the Perth match and he retires with a current Test total of 13,336 runs, second only to Sachin Tendulkar.
His decision follows some poor form in the first and second Tests and a meeting Wednesday with the Australian selectors. "Over the last couple of weeks my level of performance hasn't been good enough," Ponting said. "My passion and love for the game hasn't changed."--reported last month

Yep...another Midnight Lightning Mass Transit of Venus de Millis Seasonal Greeting.
More people are beaten to death during the holidays than the number of times A Christmas STory is run during TNT's A Christmas STory Marathon (12). The real danger is that BB guns will become semi-automatic next year.

TV back in the Black and White Era, pre-Christmas Story (1983), around the holidays, involved the presentation of A Christmas Carol, some singers' Christmas specials (Crosby and Como and the like) specials, and this opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, not a top draw for six and eight year old boys. We liked toys, not stupid singing. But we couldn't tell this was in color originally.

Up Hwy. 99, near Weed or Shasta. Black butte. I climbed it with Dad and Mike while Mom and Lenna and Tim slept in the station wagon. We came down on our heels en glissade. Wheeee!
Matterhorn Peak. In '74 I had frostbite on a toe on a trip up here skiing. Loved the run coming out, tho.
