Hey Bob-Meister,
Well, back in DC, and really not that much to report but I just wanted to drop you a note to say Hi and let you know a little bit about what is going on. The best thing about DC right now are the bumper stickers, everyone has the “End of an Error” one with Bush’s last day in office – Hey Big Bob, how you doing my friend??? – and some other really funny ones, but they are mostly naughty so I will have to wait till I see you again and then we will find out if it’s true that you can make a guy in a coma laugh … Better still, if you are awake by then, we’ll see if I can make a guy out of a coma laugh!
I just made it back from the Caribbean, which is a little sad, but it’s OK because I am taking off for Europe in a few days, mostly to visit my family, a wedding and some chilling with my 11 months old twin nephew and niece. And you know what, Bud? Seeing my family is pretty special these days because you have reminded us all of how important our loved ones are to us. Speaking of, I’ve been really impressed by some of the recent postings on supertopo. Checking out the website is still the highlight(s) of my day (I only do it about four or five times a day, now, a MAJOR improvement from the past few months when dozens of daily visits were not unheard of …) and I just love it that no one is giving up on you, everyone is still here pulling for you and posting little vignettes that put a smile on my face. I particularly like the ones about the kiddos who don’t really know you (like Jessica’s nephew and niece) who still talk about you, hike for you, think of you and pray for you. I’m thinking when you are all better we should all get together so that we can finally put a face on all these names … And yes, there it is my friend, YET another reason for you to come back to us to have a cold one – I’m nothing if I’m not persistent!
Otherwise, I’ve downloaded some pretty cool songs recently so I will put a CD together for when I see you next. A song that I thought about recently, and which I hadn’t heard in years is “Sweet Lord” by George Harrison – totally awesome! I used to think it was “Sweet Love” when I first heard it years ago but now even this die-hard atheist can take comfort in what surely is helping you and so many of the people around you. Is it the music? Is it you, Bud?
OK, that’s it for now but I will try and post again soon. Do you know Bob-Meister how much we all think of you? Pull for you? Bike for you? Hike for you? And yes, sing for you? Well, here’s a small reminder that we are waiting for you, waiting for the day when we get a message from your little sister that you are back, and we’ll all be there for you (some of us with a six-pack).
And, as always, Bud, I hold you close in the back of my mind,
Charlotte

hey there faith... hoping soon that bobby will get nearer to home... here is song for him... may sound a bit odd--but it's about pure country land, and most likely as a kid at school, it may have inspired him to roam his homeland, first, as he has done.... he must really love home... perhaps you can sing it to some soft guitar, with the soft sounds of a campfire, on tape as well:
Dr. Brewster Higley (1876)
OH GIVE ME A HOME, WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM
Oh, give me a home where the Buffalo roam
Where the Deer and the Antelope play;
Where never is heard a discouraging word,
And the sky is not clouded all day.
Chorus
A home! A home!
Where the Deer and the Antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the sky is not clouded all day.
Oh! give me a land where the bright diamond sand
Throws its light from the glittering streams,
Where glideth along the graceful white swan,
Like the maid in her heavenly dreams.
Oh! give me a gale of the Solomon vale,
Where the life streams with buoyancy flow;
On the banks of the Beaver, where seldom if ever,
Any poisonous herbage doth grow.
How often at night, when the heavens were bright,
With the light of the twinkling stars
Have I stood here amazed, and asked as I gazed,
If their glory exceed that of ours.
I love the wild flowers in this bright land of ours,
I love the wild curlew's shrill scream;
The bluffs and white rocks, and antelope flocks
That graze on the mountains so green.
The air is so pure and the breezes so fine,
The zephyrs so balmy and light,
That I would not exchange my home here to range
Forever in azures so bright.
STILL--praying that bobby will enjoy his home of the great outdoors someday, once again...

Bobby,
As always, Jer and I are thinking of you constantly and have you foremost in our minds as we pull together details for the Canyon trip. That ridiculously long wait list process is now playing heavily in your favor as we have until 9/23/10 to get you back to rafting form, my friend!
I also have you foremost in my mind each day as I do much of what you're doing - fight boredom as an active person forced into an inactive state! I'm now two weeks away from my due date and have to say I don't recommend this pregnancy bit. With that said, this little one is so active that he/she has earned several nicknames that involve profanities as I take continual shots to my ribs. I've now taken to having long conversations with the darling little one in-utero to suggest that he/she send some of his/her energy your way and be a bit more productive with it! ha, ha.
I will let you know as soon as the little one emerges and adds yet another person to the enormously large and strong Bobby Model fan club. In the meantime, keep those two fingers going strong and here's to adding a third real soon...
Much love, ab, jer, peso and the soccer player

Hello Bobby, Friends, and Family,
I had the opportunity to know Bobby when we were at UW. We had many mutual friends and we were friendly acquaintances. I have been following Bobby's progress through this forum and am thrilled to learn of his progress. I have hesitated to post anything for risk of minimalizing the anguish that Bobby's true friends are going through. However, I believe that it is important for Bobby and his family to know that there are others praying for all of you still at this time. I will continue to pray for Bobby's healing and for his family and friends to continue with their care of Bobby and upkeep of their own wellbeing.
Sending love and good wishes,
Daiva and family

Thought I'd post a little note from my mom...more good vibes cannot hurt! She is right about both Faith and Bobby.
"Thanks for the update, Liz. Bobby is in my daily prayers. I am always impressed by his sister's messages; she writes so beautifully. Her phrasing is graceful and her tone is so uplifting. She must be a special person. Bless his heart, he is fighting so hard. I pray he continues to make progress. Love, Mom"

Hi everyone,
I just spent a few days in New York visiting Bobby and wanted to give you all an update on how well Bob-Meister is doing. The first word that comes to mind is “amazing,” as in “it’s amazing what a difference a couple of months make.” The last time I was up in Gotham City, Bobby was still in Intensive Care, recovering from the medevac and fighting a series of infections. He is now out of ICU, in a beautiful room overlooking Central Park, doing clearly much better and looking GOOD! I’m not a doctor (well, not that kind of doctor anyway, if you have a fish question on the other hand …) so I really can’t give you much of a strictly medical assessment, but he does look well, rested and responsive, and he seems to take in his surroundings. On a few occasions I purposely entered his field of vision, called his name and/or made a funny face and he REALLY smiled at me. They were but fleeting moments, but they were definitely there. And when I once mentioned a good memory from Nairobi he smiled too, without any visual clue. Now, again, I’m not Dr. Mc Dreamy (for all among you who are not Grey’s fanatics (and why not, prey tell?) McDreamy is a neuro-surgeon … on TV) but it felt to me as too much of a coincidence not to take great hope in these few signs. Physically too, Bobby looks good, he is getting some good physical therapy and on a couple of occasions he squeezed my hand so hard it hurt – them good ole muscles are still clearly there.
As he has been all along, Bobby is surrounded by amazing people, who are looking after him constantly – in fact he is practically never alone, even when he is asleep. The nurses and doctors at Mt. Sinai are outstanding and they all, without exception, know what an amazing fella Bobby is (probably because everyone has told them about a million times….). They constantly ask questions about pictures of Bobby that are prominently displayed in his room and they always, always smile when we tell them what he has been up to. While I was there Bobby’s father was visiting, which is always good fun because we are - how shall I put it gently - on opposite ends of the political spectrum. This time around was particularly fun because three of Bobby’s climbing buddies were also in town and, believe you me, I needed some help to hold my own with Big Bob. We all went out for dinner and it was truly one of the most entertaining dinners I have had in a very long while. And to make the event even more memorable, that evening was the 12th anniversary of the ascension of Trango Tower, but you will need to wait for Mike’s post for more details on this (hint, hint, Mike, it’s all you – did anyone say “beagle?”).
So, all in all, Bobby is doing remarkably well, and everyone around him makes all the difference, so please do keep sending your thoughts, prayers, messages, photos, posts, to them all – everything really helps. And, for those of you who have read some of the most recent posts, yes, Bobby also reacts to the cold, but that’s all I will say without my lawyer present …
Best to all,
Charlotte

Hey Bobby,
Well we went off to the Dirty Socks Club reunion in Bozeman this past weekend. It was a great time!! I finally got to meet some of those people that belong to the names that I have read about and heard about for so many years. There was quite a turn out! Fred Beckey, Jack Tackle, Peter Lev, Dougal McCarty, Grey Thompson, and so many many more! It was a great time for all. Davey Vaughan hosted the whole thing. There was food, drink, bands, and incredible conversation! Joe Josephson was there with his camera and his digital recorder, so I am looking for something to be put out on this in the future. (HOPEFULLY!!)
Here are some pictuires that I thought you may enjoy. We thought of you in our beautiful surroundings. You always seem to come skipping across my mind every day.
Take care,
Janet

SA climber here. Bobby your story is spreading through the grape vines all over South Africa. I stand for my country and love Africa...leaving for Nairobi on Saturday then DRC. To be sure we will be thinking of you. I know you will recover to tell us an amazing story and even better tell it in your special way...will post some Kenya pics upon my return. I read this thread from beginning to end one Friday at work and found myself still there at 1am in the morning, with tears streaming down my face, and yet a faint song in my heart...the wind has wispered into my ears, you will go on...draw energy from the love, the sun, and let's chat someday about our Africa!

Hey bobby,
flew over yosemite a few weeks ago and I was thinking of you the whole time, last time I was there was with you. Some great (puckering) memories there.
It's a beautiful fall day here, no humidity just crisp and clean, some caffeine haha. Watched some of the US open tennis tourney the last few weeks and think I might have seen your hospital room from some of the zoom shots of NYC, really I did, I think I may have just made you out, think you were giving the thumbs up or maybe some other hand signal heh
Your in my thoughts each day man

Hey Bobby,
Haven't written in a while it's been a busy summer, business is good. Kyle and I just got back for Seattle, and then spent most of this week in Sheridan; The Powder Horn is going up fast, tons of building in the Sheridan Area. Kyle is going to California for a week and when he gets back, we head back over the Mountain to prewire a new bank in Sheridan. Can't say that were going hungry, well at least me. ( I could use to loose a few pounds or more)
Got to see Peter Chivers a few weeks back, he was sealing up the bricks on the building. The building looks great, you got to get home and see it for your self. Pete if your out there call the store (307)587-0707 I got a skate board for ya. Bobby people here in Cody and Powell are still thinking of you and want you to get better and come home. It would be cool as hell if you could make it back before the first snow, but I know you need your rest and time to heal, just keep getting better.
Faith, I know the love that you have for Bobby. The love I have for my brother is too strong to put into words. The only word that I found that fits, is loyalty. Lovem', hatem', but always stand by him. Loyalty is love and what people have seen and learned about you in this forum is that you have proven your love for Bobby. Actions speak louder than words. Like I have told you before you are a diamond, the stone that will not crumble and you have my greatest respect.
To all at Bobby's side you have are respect, prayers, and best wishes.

Hi, Bobby, You've been on my mind this last month...even more so than usually. I fell and broke my head while walking off dead Indian Pass. Only 3 fractures to my crumple zones, brow, sinus, nose. Certainly not in your league, though Anne says this must stop. Rung my bell and it has been some time getting my brain to click along like I have been blessed to click. Our little community sent me so much good energy that I healed quickly and well. I have been the conduit sending those blasts east from your Mom's park on the hill. Such a sweet and potent spot. I think of you also because I need the name of a place and you may know. A cirque in Tibet that looks like Dead Indian from the top, a little greyer, less vegetation, w a stone structure along the east side w two big circular landings. While waiting for the helicopter and making my brother, Lee, frantic w worry, I flew and spent hours in Tibet watching a pack string of little square headed cattle lead by small people in dark clothes, red horizontal accents.....far more interesting for me than for Twila and Lee holding my hands. Jim says he'll go w me. Still working out where exactly it is. You are one man who may have set foot in both places. Hell of a thing to confess in a climbers' forum..that I tripped and stuck a big rock in my eye. Mostly I blame it on the little horse Tucker because he can't speak up for himself and no one would believe him anyway. You are in my prayers. Hurry home. Much Love, Virginia

Well Bobby,
I went rock climbing for the very first time yesterday. Real rock climbing! We went up to the Island with the boys. Todd and Heather met us up there with Heather's girls and Jim Montgomery came up with his kids. It was a lot of fun. Now I can say I climbed. I know - it was only the Island, but I was pretty proud of myself for actually getting brave enough to do it at all. I like those mountain trails, so this was something big for me. Hiking has always been my game. Rock climbing was always something that I let Kirt take the credit for. I think I would actually like to do it again. Yes- it was that fun!
Brinson did really well. We had to tell him to stop, or he would have been over the top and on his way to God knows where. Heather's oldest girl is a rock hound. She was awesome to watch. She just did it like she had been doing it forever. She seems to like it a great deal. The kids had a lot of fun. The dad's didn't climb much. They were too busy trying to keep everyone else belayed. We had a great time.
Well, the air is getting much cooler and Fall is setting in. I love the seasons. Wyoming has all four and I love it. I wouldn't live anywhere else. The mountains just call to me and I know that I am home. I know that they must be calling to you right now. You have been gone for way too long. Hopefully, this thread and the people here have brought you a taste of home every time you read a story or just catch up on what people are doing. We are all here thinking of you and praying for you, we haven't forgotten you and none of us ever will. We all keep you in our hearts every day and hope that the next entry into this forum is the news that we have all been waiting to read - that you have found your way back to all of the people that care so much about you. That will be the moment in time that will spread like wildfire. I can't wait to read that entry!
Well, I must get going. I have a big day today. Lots to get done. Stay strong and keep inspiring all of us to love our loved ones every single day and tell each other what they mean to us. You mean a great deal to me and every other person here.
Your friend,
Janet
