VETERAN's LIVES DO NOT MATTER!
At last count there are over 52,000 HOMELESS VETS throughout this Nation.

You can play word games all day long but that doesn't put a roof over the
homeless' heads, give good care to our Vets, or treat our mentally challenged.
We've 40 million living in poverty and we need to bring in more?
Serious problems, indeed, but refugees did not cause those issues, nor would they exacerbate them.
You want vets taken care of? Then cancel that new bomber and the F-35 and use that trillion dollars for America.

NO, they sure didn't. The CURRENT POTUS has by not acting accordingly and lead both NATO/UN into protecting them the past two years.
He has done NOTHING until now AFTER Europe has been overwhelmed by them.
But of course you Gary and the rest of your lot will blame GW and the repubs and everyone that DOES NOT fit YOUR AGENDA.

It's not xenophobia when you realize you can't have yer cake and eat it too.

The refugees that make it out of the middle east and to the western world tend to be incrediably self-motivated and far more educated than the norm. They are the survivors willing to do whatever it takes to create a better life for themselves and their families. Sure there are exceptions and I'm sure many are suffereing severely from stress.
The ones wasing up on Europe's shore tend to be professionals that had the money and contacts to make the trip. (A great many have smart phones and used to have a middle class existence.) It is sad that their experience and degrees are usually discounted. So you have doctors and engineers getting jobs washing dishes. But by-and-large they are willing to work their butts off for a chance even in menial jobs. If you research the statistics, immigrants and refugees contribute much more economically than they take in social services.

Really... then why are they, REFUGEE'S?
Why haven't the over 100K "incredibly self-motivated" Syrian Refugee Men ages 18-45 taken arms against ISIS and fight them on their own turf. Why?
Because they are NOT running from ISIS. They are running from ASSAD. So please tell us, how has BUSH, CHENEY or anyone prior to OBAMA been culpable for all these Syrian Refugees that are running away from ASSAD and the Syrian Civil War?

I wasn't placing blame for who created the migrants. Although the invading Iraq was a huge, initial mistake.
Look 30 year old doctors and engineers aren't going to suddenly become an effective fighting force even if they wanted to.
Their homes and livihoods have been destroyed. Does it matter who they are running from? Maybe they are running from cities that have been carpet bombed and shelled into rubble.
Any of the 18-24 who wanted to fight, no doubt stayed to fight. But I don't blame any of them from wanting to get out. Especially those that are married and/or have kids.

Well, as a vet
you're a vet, and you did not mention anything about your concern for fellow vets. That would be a priority I would have over refugees.
this wave of refugees is a direct consequence of our screwing the pooch
This statement would be more credible if the refugees were coming from Iraq, or Afghanistan.
Most of the Syrian refugees are the result of the Syrian civil war.

You DIRTBAG are most likely right. But by god, we have found all this money and resources to start taking care for refugee's from a Civil War we as a nation have NOTHING to do with nor are we culpable for any of it.
HOMELESS VETERANS LIVES DO NOT MATTER!
EDIT: POTUS Obama keeps stating that a regime change in Syria is the ONLY way to peace there. That Assad has to go.
Certainly appears he did not learn from GW's big fking mistake next door. Nor his and Hildabeast's great job in Libya after removing Gaddafi where ISIS is now basically in control.

Because they are NOT running from ISIS. They are running from ASSAD.
These possibilities are not mutually exclusive.
No sane human would want to be in proximity to either one.

"Possibilities"???
You really are a parrot Spiny.
And for all you people out there that believe Hussein's Iraq was a place of peace and stability, well it wasn't.
He had Sunni led death squads that instantly quilled any Shia and Kurdish uprisings. He gassed his own people repeatedly. He murdered over a million of his own people during his 24 years of being in power. That is how he maintained control over them.
Gee, doesn't that sound familiar..... ASSAD!

Now wtf does that have ANYTHING to do with Syrian Refugees that we as a NATION are not culpable of?
Wtf does that have to do with the attacks in Paris and Beirut as well as the downing of a Russian Commercial jet liner by ISIS/ISIL/Dooshbags
What, Spiny?

Sadly, that seems to be the prevailing attitude. But I don't think it calls for pitting one suffering class against another. We could help both, if we choose.

How about we start taking care of ALL the Homeless here in this country before we start taking care of the worlds homeless. Then after they are all clothed, housed and gainfully employed or taken care of health wise, we start considering others from half way around the planet.

(Reuters) – Veterans organizations were upset with Senate Republicans after they failed to gain enough votes of support to move forward with a measure that would have expanded federal healthcare and education programs for veterans. The GOP argued that the bill would bust the budget.
Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) sponsored the bill that would have waived the VA spending cap that was previously established in a budget deal approved by both Congress and President Obama last December. Sander’s office estimated the legislation would have cost $20 billion over the course of ten years.
60 votes were needed to waive the budget rule. 41 out of 45 Republicans voted against it and killed the bill.
Reuters reported, “Supporters said the measure would have brought the most significant changes in decades to U.S. veterans’ programs. For example, it called for 27 new medical facilities to help a healthcare system that is strained by veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.”
