The fiasco unfolding with moderator deletion of threads and posters got me thinking about what I'd be most sad to see trashed. Of all the threads I've started on SuperTopo this one came to mind first, it's a personal favorite.

Closing shot: Joe Herbst on the first ascent of Solar Slab, 1975:

Since I have this weird habit of reading Red Rocks guidebooks religiously, I've always wondered what became of Joe Herbst. Is he still climbing, still in LV, ... ? (I saw some photos early in this thread that might be him, but weren't captioned...)

The guy is kind of a hero to me, just from the FAs he did there.

I knew someone here could ID it. The thick, stiff and creaky shape it was in for our Beulah ascent made it the worst rope I've ever used, though. Would much rather have had my old goldline.

According to the English visionary poet William Blake, Beulah is a place where all contraries are equally true. A realm of comfortable illusions where his character Thel (i.e. The Book of Thel) decides to remain, instead of confronting the hard uncomfortable realm of painful life experience.

Good name for a climb I'd say!

Yes, and much like this thread, that concept is so out back ...

Paris Beulah was an indolent and vapid pop-tart celebutante who ditched school one day and stole an antique 250 GTS Ferrari.

Why is an 11.5mm Edelrid rope funny?

The last rope I bought was an 11mm Mammut, and I'd buy another one.

Those super-skinny ropes may be OK for Sportos in Spandex™, but they're not for me.

Ferris Bueller and the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder.

Any excuse to bump Larry's historically rich and whimsical thread!
