Good on ya. No point in having a vice which such a lopsided risk to reward ratio.
Learning how to break addictions is learning how to power your life. A worthy endeavor in any case

Pat I'm still cigarette free but I'm using a cheater stick. After trying several ways to quit over the years including patches, gum, chew, cutting down slowly, this seems like it will work.
I'd divulge more of my 'system' but I don't want to jinx your success or mine. Not smoking cigs feels good though and it's big step for me. Some of the Facelift peeps got a glimpse into my system, some scoffed, but most were like, "Whatever, dude, if it works...".
Hang in there Pat! Congratulations.

Hang tough guys,your'e doin' it!!!
If (when) you stumble/fall, get back up(mental up),dust off(toss stress triggers),grab that saddle horn(recommit),stick that boot firmly in the stirrup(devotion & purpose for your loved ones & those around you who's lives you affect & those that you don't even know how much you affect by your example),back up on that bronc & hang on & put it DOWN!!!
PS: 8 seconds !!!
For us common folk, the above(*) will get us there w/out having to resort to blatent redneck activities.
PS: PROUD OF YOU!!!

IME (extensive) with quitting the nic, half of the problem, was worrying ABOUT quitting - like worrying about a run out. Once I went for it, it was not so horrendous as all that. I just felt like I was on LSD for a week or so (I did it cold turkey).
I am SO glad I quit. Never think about it now. At all.
Good luck to you guys!

About the patch...
After I went to the lowest dose, I started cutting them in half and kept a half on. Then I cut the halves in half and kept the quarter on. Then I cut the quarters in half and kept the eighth on.
Etc etx.
After a while I had a little tiny speck of a patch on. Then I finally went without the speck but still kept a spare speck in my wallet just in case. Heh.
I considered myself quitted when I finally threw the "just in case" speck out - maybe a year after the whole process started.
Been nic free for 16 years now.

Seeing the artist previously know as Cabeza's Tobacco quiting thread pop up reminded me of something else....maybe the people having trouble on the other thread can get some ideas/solace from this one or try this technique..
