Not the outcome I was hoping for. God speed Oscar.
A painful reminder that this is a serious game played for keeps.

I can't even imagine what it must be like to have to abandon a Brother. And to be abandoned....but something happened and I know in my heart and mind that Oscar was not abandoned by "the one that sticketh closer than a brother."

That's why I know and believe there is more in this vast universe than just people. Like Inaki Ochoa, I will never forget Oscar. And I pray healing for loved ones and friends. Peace, Lynne

I was really hoping for a happy ending to this sad and frustrating affair. I did not kow Oscar, but anyone who is in the high hills, who dons a rope and follows a dream, is my brother or sister.
My condolences to Oscar's family and friends.
We have lost, yet another of our kindred, in what seems to be a very long, hard rain.
"any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."

and the world turns..

From rtve website:
"Tras hacer cumbre en el Latok II (7.125 metros de altura en el medio de la cordillera del Karakorum, en Pakistán), Óscar Pérez y Álvaro Novellón comienzan a descender hacia el campo base, situado en la cara norte de la montaña."

"Hacer cumbre" translates literally to "make summit". I read this as saying they had summited and were decending. I've not seen clear indication on other websites?

Thanks, gimmeslack, that's the impression I received also that they summited. Peace, lynne

Alpine climbing is a serious game and I know from experience that the Latok area is cutting edge. My best wishes for Oscar's friends and family. The fact that they know Oscar was doing what he HAD to do will lessen but not end their pain.

When you really HAVE to see something, you prepare well and embrace the risk.

OP was kong-strong and not just the appearance of such. He found aspects of beauty in the suffering. He'd be disappointed he could not share more of it with friends.

Indeed Mr. Donini, it's a blast that men like yourself punched hard, dodged, and survived it all - testament that there are sad outcomes and wonderful stories too.

Preparation a key to life and sport.......especially in all aspects of attempt and descent peak climbing. Yeah, sometimes the least little things may enable it to happen, or not....after that it's life as it's played out. lrl

Edit: Honoring Oscar Perez and his life....Peace along with the quest of spirit.

Although we have never met but you'll remain in the heart of many, your bravery your commitment and your passion.......has reminded us that to achieve something in life you have to give 100% and I belive u gave more than that.........

I pray for you and your familiy on behalf of all Pakistanis at this time of sheer sadness, may Allah Almighty grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the immense loss and may your soul rest in peace for ever.
