Thanks so much to all for sharing the pics, and for all those who put the event together. So sorry not to make it. Running our first summer adventure camp on Donner Summit for 40 kids and leading 15 kids in my own climbing camp yesterday, leaving town for me was not going to happen, but I am passing on the climbing spirit big time, and I did tell the climbing kids what I was missing yesterday both as a tribute to a hero and a reminder to new teen climbers of the seriousness of soloing.

Love to all who were there yesterday, so many friends I wished I could have seen.

Thanks’ to the Bachar family for letting all of us share your celebration of John’s amazing life.

Ron Gomez and others put in a ton of hard work to make this happen, thank you.

…..when the man played the saxophone, I felt the presence of John right there with all of us. I had tears in my eyes but slowly a smile started to crack and I felt better about things.

I went to Stoney Point yesterday; it was great to be alive and climbing with good friends.

I just want to say thanks to all who helped make this an event worthy of John. Especially to Steve West, Ron Gomez, John Bachar jr., Paola, Val and Tyrus, Rick A. and to Robin Thompson.

It was a beautiful event. Thank you Michelle, Lynn, Paola, Ron, Val, The Bachar and Karafa family. I kept seeing rainbows throughout the drive. It finally hit me that it was John telling us that he was home. I also saw the most beautiful and yet familiar sunset. I don't know if this is all in my head but I swear... I remember seeing that same sunset over the desert after the car accident. It makes me think that Steve and few others were there enjoying the show sharing a laugh with Bachar.

I'm so bummed that I missed this event. My car is out of commission and gordon didn't have room for a ride.
Great photos everyone! Lots of friends!
We should have another memorial in Joshua Tree this Fall.
A man this great deserves many memorials!

I watched that white Pelicn, but didn't get a shot, I saw others taking pictures, glad to see one.

I thought of that as a positive omen of some sort.

i did not know john personally but dearly wish i could have attended the memorial. John has inspired me to just go all out and try your hardest and not let anything hold you back. Another memorial service in Josh sounds fantastic!

on a positive note i feel so great about climbing and the people who do it, seeing how everyone has come together in this hard time to celebrate one hell of a mans GREAT life and give his son an immeasurable amount of support. Peace and love to all

Sorry I could not be there, but so good to see the passion power of climbers put to honoring a great, to coming together, celebrating the good in the game, and loving.

Now (and at regular intervals into the future), let's put our money where are tears and loss are - to supporting Tyrus in his time of need.

Karl thread is good place to get a commitment going, "'till it hurts" in the lingo of fund raisers:

What a honor and privilege to see.
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer,
But Royal is the imbodiment of the Golden Age and seeing all you rad studs (best of the best),
made me think, we would not even have climbing or any routes to climb, if it were not for you, I'm cut to the quick.
Hey Mike "Bondo" Bond, I haven't seen you in like 30yrs, you have not changed at all! I'm like a worked Hacky Sack, Ha! Ha!
Remember Surfer Craig, the Lifeguard at Curry pool, Dan "Woody" Woodward, and Cutty!
Man we were way off the deck- with are feet on the ground, back then.
Climbings the best, movement is freedom,
dang, I feel one coming on?
Hand over heart, what a send off,
Matt

I was very disapointed to miss the memorial for John, my family and I were attending a wedding in Canada for one of my closest friends. Seeing the joy of two people starting a new life together helped to heal the pain of losing John. A shout out to Dave Yerian- haven't seen you in a while- Peace bro- Paul Linaweaver

Thanks so much for letting us participate in John's memorial remotely. He is sooo special. And the gathering of demigods of climbing is a proper honor and tribute. I'm sure John is smiling seeing all his friends together.

Thanks again.

Glenn

PS I would hope that the demigods went and did some climbing together afterwards somewhere . . .

hey there blitzo... oh my... i sure understand... :(

also, dear peter... say, you are so fine, say, as it is said "someone must hold the fort down"---say, you DID EXCELLENT with those kids... you were kind of like "in the line of duty" and you missed this most special event (which would have blessed you greatly)----but---you will be blessed in the long-run for being there "at such as time as that" for those kids...

job well done...
may you be part of any of the the other get-together memorials that may be planned...
