Jim says, "Speaking of, I better quit giving peeks or nobody's going to buy the damned thing..."

Wow, I enjoyed it just as much this time as last. Don't worry about us buying it.

Speaking of......Hey Jim, we're all Sierra climbers, just not so famous. We want our picture taken too!!

Thanks everyone. A book is definitely in progress. In Galicia, Spain, doing some sea kayaking around the Cies Islands. I'll be adding Riccardo Cassin to my series next week in Italy....

Hey Jim,

Just wondering. Did you get some images of Galen Rowell before he was taken away from us? A simple yes or no will do.

It's great seeing pictures of older people when you are aware of their accomplishments in younger days. Makes you appreciate the elder statespeople walking around us everyday. So many untold stories....

Truly wonderful work, Jim.

Ed Drummond would give you something to work with if you are in search of classic faces.

Peter is right, I photographed Cassin in July while in Italy.

From the road Riccardo lived on, his son pointed out the backside of the Jungfrau... you could just make it out on the horizon.
And of course, the Grigna, where Riccardo started climbing in the '20s, loomed large right behind his house.
Also, turns out, Riccardo was quite the hunter of chamoix. He had the mounted heads of what seemed like 50 of them on his living room wall.

There's no doubt he was fading when I met him, and I believe he knew it. But so much dignity and strength in his eyes, still.

He died less than two weeks after I left.

My photo of Cassin will be in the next Alpinist.

Incredible photos. B&W is such a great medium, but yikes, did you notice the scars on Chouinard's elbows? What's the story there????

Simply stunning. Thank you so much. As noted, these guys are old, something I hope to achieve myself one day, but in my mind, they're still up there fighting the good fight, young, ripped and raging.

This is an amazing thread.

Jim- Your photo's are fantastic, I am so glad I came across this thread. Seeing so many of the pioneers of climbing photographed like you have is really moving.

I think my girlfriend is emailing you about the 'Chouinard Piton' photo right now.

Thanks for sharing, I will still buy your book even though you have shared so many photos, it will go well right next to the Glen Denny book.

Absolutely wonderful! Enigmatic, poignant, and powerful. Tease all you want. Scads of folk, me included, will line up to buy this book.
