Cop-out here--no opinion, really, doesn't affect me in ANY fore-seeable way, BUT...

My friends' 70+ year old parents just received their CWPs in Florida recently, as they are living in fear of practically everyone they do not know. I trust implicitly responsible gun owners who cherish their 2nd amendment right, but many people who CAN get a CWP aren't necessarily the ones who SHOULD have one--a slippery slope indeed.

I'm not so sure that I want frightened people going to the Everglades on a trip with a loaded whatever, just in case their fear kicks in and need a release to ease their weak minds.

If you are scared to leave your home without a firearm, maybe you should just stay home with your doors locked clutching that gun with COLD DEAD HANDS, this would accurately reflect the weak human being that you are.

By the way, went out shooting my Winchester 30-30 with above said friend tonight--didn't feel empowered, just felt that I could shoot my dinner if need be.

Sorry, hard-line gun owners, that's just the way I see it in MY wild west.

There are very few times when a gun is a very usefull tool. When that happenes and you have a gun and the knowlege of how and WHEN to use it it can save your day big time. I caried when my GF's daughter was being stalked for example.

I have also kicked arround the country dirtbag style, wandered the desert, the mountains and the plaines as well as the southeast and of course the northeast never needing a gun. I have had a few creepy situations over the years and gotten out of them with smart thinking over violence. If I had a gun stashed in my car 24/7 I would have lost at least 2 by now as the car has been broken into twice.

I would easily bet that if you carry 24/7 your chances of haveing a bad AD or eating your gun far outweigh your chances of being John Wayne and saveing the day.

Out of the crew of about 30 VT guys/gals that I used to travel with back in my IPSC and pin shooting days. ( yes folks we did in fact go bowling with large powerfull guns) I have never heard of a single justifyable shooting. I do know that one guy wasted his ex girlfriends new BF with a doubble tap between the lookers. There was annother guy ( Douglas Baird) who was a smokin hot revolver shooter/PPC Etc. who ended up geting wasted in his sleep by his whife w/ his own pistol.

Take a cross section of the 70+ million legit gun owners in the country and I bet those nubers stand up. for every single justfiable shot fired in defense I bet you have bunch more of accidents, sucides and murders.

Take vermont in the last 2 decades. One totally legit shooting. Ex husband chaseing wife and new BF @ high speeds with a shotgun down RT91. they pull into a gas station and the new BF runs in, borrows his friends .44mag runs back out just in time to waste the abusive husband. The only other legal JH that i know of in that trime frame was a guy who wasted an unarmed teenager for stealing beer out of his garage. Totally pathetic but he got away with it. Ruined his life though as everyone knew what a creepy coward he was after that.

So we really only have 1 legit defensive shoot that I am aware of in the last 20 yrs yet we have half a dozen or so firearm related murders and how many? suicides each year over that same time frame. We also have had a few horrible accidents. One really bad one a few years ago. kids partying up to deer camp. shooting off the back deck into the woods. They wake up the next day and find their friends wasted in their tent in the back yard, OOps.....

Knowing all this I still keep a few defensive guns in the house but only carry if there is specific threat. That has only happened once this decade.

Well lets just see how this shakes out.
Hopefully self fulfilling prophesies will be minimal.

I just wonder what makes the national parks SOOOOO different from state parks or other public areas.
People are still people, and prone to all manner of foolishness. I don't like Big Brother preempting the options of responsible individuals simply because there are (and always will be) those who wish not to be responsible.

Packin' heat in the Valley!

Let me see now. BITD Streach had a loaded 38 magnum revolver under his pillow. Schultz had one and some other pistol too.

I had a 30 odd 6 rifle in the trunk of my Pontiac LeMons for a long time in a bag in the trunk that I thought was the tire jack until one day I needed to change a flat.

"Hummmmnnn WTF is this thing." I said. This thing will never work for changing the flat tire .....
