I once told a group of climbers to stop the tunes or they would all die.

They stopped the tunes.

I used to get so angry before the Zeprexa and Zoloft.

Which is worse?

Loud group at the crag who stays loud after another group comes in.

Or, dude threatening to kick my ass because he doesn't approve of my behavior after coming to a crag where I was first?

I really appreciate a mellow, quiet enviro while climbing, and I seek that out.

However, my worst two climbing experiences ever are not from noise, but from passive/agro jerks who went from no interaction at all to threatning to kick my ass in a couple of seconds.

It's incredibly rare for anyones behavior to merit a threat of violence.

I think Largo already said this but.....if you go to an area that's in a GUIDEBOOK and has lots of moderates, you should not be surprised when you are greeted with crowds. If you want solitude in this sport you can find it. You might have to climb harder and walk more than 10 minutes from your car. Last time I was in the Valley I went to the Little Wing Cliff, which is knott in the ST guide. We didn't see anyone...even thought the climbing was great.

Far more annoying at the crags are:

A) dogs

B) Kids

C) Boy Scouts (I should know, I used to be one)

D) Tourons

If you want to avoid any of this you can. There are plenty of lonely (or "solitudinous") places in this sport.

Were you one of the donut bumpers in that group toproping while my friends and I were bouldering? The ones who didn't speak the entire time??

Sorry for running up those routes you were hanging 6 feet off the ground on.

As to the OP-

Try throwing your empty beer cans at them from above!

The above method works well on your Betrayer as well.

I would agree that being loud and obnoxious at the crag is lame, but when It comes to kids....Mine come and climb half of the time and play the other half. Play is what its about. Thats what we are out there for. I dont see why some take issue with kids. That being said we always try to keep them down to a dull roar.

Generally people are cool out at the crags. What I find most disturbing is when a car alarm goes off at the parkinglot and no one can figure out if it's their car. so it continues until the battery dies.

This all pales by comparison then what I endured one day from the party next to us:

"ON BELAY FOR CHRIST!"

"SEND FOR JESUS".

My reply to my partner:

"DUDE! SEND IT FOR SATAN"

They were not amused...

I on the other hand was.

"so it continues until the battery dies. "

Sounds like they need a new alarm. Alarms, since like the 80's, reset after about 2 minutes.
