"Our governemnt went WHAY more than a century without income taxes."

There wasn't any standing army worth speaking of during that time either. Wars took so long to get going that we had time to build up armies from scratch. Also they were more about manpower and less about technology.

New idea.....Let's all "run amok".
Stir the stew. Let the chips fall where they may.
Who will rise to the occasion?
No one knows.
I'm willing....even eager.

matt, kinda weak how you to try to portray people as stupid and ignorant who disagree with you economically or philosophically.

Thank you, Matt, once again, for backing up my point about you making up imaginary Straw Men.

Once again.

(tho' not necessarily from this thread)

and people being stupid, or people disagreeing with me, they are neither mutually exclusive nor a given combination, but that don't mean they never happen in the same instance.

edit-
choz- what a graceful avoidance of the clear and obvious topic of my post

The Modus Operandi here, apparently, comes from a philosophy that if the most powerful citizen of Texas is an international criminal operating with impunity, then anything goes.

Hello all. This is my first post so please be kind. I am usually a "lurker," but I thought I would give my two cents worth.

I do not wish to offend anyone and want to apologize up front if I do. I strongly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion and in no way want to force mine upon anybody.

As a fourteen year police officer and seven year paramedic I will be the first to say that there are many bad police officer's out there (well they hold the title anyway) and when they are discovered their punishment should be swift and harsh.

But, not all are so bad. I, for one, have never taken a dime that did not belong to me and I have never taken any property that was not mine. I have never been investigated by any department for my actions.

What have I done? Well, I have held many babies in my arms and watched them take their last breath. I have told many parents that their child would not be coming home. I have seen death in every way one could imagine.

I have put many very bad people in jail that were doing very bad things to very good people. I have put my life on the line so other people could sleep in peace. I have buried many friends that were fighting for the same cause and senselessly lost their lives.

Why do I do this? Just to make a difference in someone's life when they need me the most....when they are at their lowest point. To give a kind hand of friendship and a shoulder to cry on.

It is bitter sweet really.....every night I lay my head down I carry with me all of the tears of joy and all of the faces of the people that have breath in their lungs because of my actions, but I also carry with me all of the faces of those that were no so lucky.

I am not writing this to sympathy or thanks, just for those out there to see a different side. Then maybe when you see a man/woman in uniform you might see them in a different light. That there are those of us who care and want to make someone's life a little better when they are in the middle of the storm.

Sincerely,

Rick (just another ground dumb pounder)

Edit= sorry for the grammatical errors, the sleep is pulling at my eyes as I am in the middle of a very long shift.
