What increases are you talking about Kelly?

States and feds are facing decreased budgets for these services.

And in case you haven't heard, we're in a recession. Jobs can be found, but good luck with that. My brother who has many marketable jobs waited several months until he could find a job that could support his family.

Roxjox} I sorry I effected you with my post, I was just trying to share with the TD that the times have changed, and I don’t need to do all the drastic thing that you said, and my kids are great and we have a great life, seeing how I was not greedy and life is not about me if it about my marriage and kids, I would not be the over weight climber that I’m today if I didn’t put the energy I left in climbing into business I would still be in my car or tent and caning? Sorry you’re so angry and if you knew me you would know.

PEACE

Just finished a year of travel in SE Asia. Boy, talk about bad timing to come back and look for a job. Luckily, and I mean luckily, I'm relatively smart with money and will be OK for a while I look, but DAMN why didn't I wait til 2009 to take a year off work? 20/20 hindsight! Good luck to all of you affected in the search for work. I know that I'm going to do my best to support any friends who are affected by all this. I think I might be one of the lucky few to find work during this crisis, and even if it's a "crap" temp contract job with no benefits, I'm going to be DAMN HAPPY!

Education needs to be one of our priorities. If we don't educate people now, our country will be less competitive with other countries in the future. It's absolutely unacceptable that we're laying off teachers. Just my opinion...

Fogarty (Hi by the way.... long time !)

So let me get this straight.... it costs you like 300k to live a year, but you only pull in 120k? So you are losing 180K a year? Not to pry, but how long can that go on before you drop on a knife?

edit: don't worry about RJ... the six headed monster of weed, booze, wolves, two mortgages, Cali envy and no job has driven him insane.

With a Wife & 3 little ones to provide for I am right there with you all. On the bright side, it has really gotten me to appreciate all that I do have, i.e. family and friends.

This may sound wierd, but I really feel sad for the people who have profited from taking advantage of people like myself. People who have gotten rich by over charging the general population. Greed is a disease worse than any cancer.

Peace to all out there struggling.

Hey Mike....

Stretch... hmmmm..... not sure what happened to that dude. He might have sent me an email a long time ago. I'll look for it and let you know if anything turns up.

Side note and thread derail: Man! You have gots to tell us about the fight in the Zodiac talus where you and Loomis? were attacked by that maniac Psycho Kenny and you got clubbed in the spine with the Yo-Hammer..... then you guys hucked rocks at him to keep him back. GREAT STORY!!!1111 My faulty memory says I was up at the base fixing or something when all this went down.

I had to lay off a good friend (I'd recruited her from a previous job where she'd worked for me). It sucked. It was part of a 10% RIF. I'm likely to go in the next round.

My wife is a teacher a year short of tenure. March 15th is witching date for CA teachers. She's got lots of students dealing with either East Palo Alto parents out of work, or Silicon Valley junior masters of the universe who weren't so masterful after all. Lots of depression, anger, confusion from the kids.

Took some job and economic risks that aren't looking so smart in retrospect.

My stepson couldn't find a real job after a seasonal job in Grand Teton, and is working at a ski resort for no money. At least he is becoming a really good backcountry snowboarder.

Side Note: I wrote a small story about this adventure with PSYCHO KENNY a long time ago in my journal, I will work on maybe posting this, some of my friends say I should send it to Hot Belayer Magazine? What do you think?
