during this time i got to hang out with my christian relatives from north carolina. it was shocking to here my uncle say that he did not trust obama. when i asked him why he said because he was a muslim, went to a muslim school and was friends with terrorists. i forget that there are people who get all of their news from fox and rush. there are two americas. there are people who believe what they hear and do not question it.
it is disturbing and really scary, especially when it's in your kitchen. it's scary that 47% of people think this way.
i think that it is particularly scary when we look at our education system and see that there is so much emphasis on testing and that none of it is focused on critical thinking skills.
i think that it is important that children are learning to think critically. to question authority and reality so that they do not believe everything a dynamic speaker tells them. regardless if that is palin, obama, or hitler.

Riley, Hilarious ! Where do you guys get this stuff, like right off the shelf, Dude ?
Ok, let me rephrase, the election is over. : )) Just thought it would be more positive to maybe chat about who Pres. Obama may choose for a cabinet, than bash Palin ad nauseum. (negative vibes)
Tinker, all christians do not think like your relatives. A number of us throughout the world have agreed to support our new President Elect and not bash him continually. We will give him the respect his office deserves even if we do not always agree with his policies etc. Peace, Lynne

JL wrote: This is fantastically goofy, if true. The woman showed so little acumen when engaged in real conversations with real journalists that you have to seriously wonder who could peg her as the leader of a political party. On the basis of what? How could this even be a remote possibility to any thinking human being?
That last question has been pondered over and over again here on this forum. To date we have no viable answer.
Palin 2012!!!!!
PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Edit: Lynne, there is a huge difference between christians and the religious right.

Sorry Lynne, but Palin needs to be buried, not just defeated. Her brand of anti-intellectualism and anti-learning, masked as anti-elitism, would be devastating to the party not to mention the country. There are talks of her running in 2012. That's just absolutely horrible.
If she represents the new face of the Republican Party, then it is in deeper trouble than we imagined.

"A number of us throughout the world have agreed to support our new President Elect and not bash him continually."
Care to give us what that number is? Perhaps you are speaking figuratively, but still that is your guess and not a statement of fact. Yes I'm being nitpicky but you can't make a statement like that to support your position and expect it to be swallowed whole.
Maybe this thread is about bashing Palin but it is equally about the staggering amazement that someone could believe Palin is capable of holding the highest office on the planet.
Someone mentioned up thread that being elected governor of a state is an impressive achievement. Granted, but as a what, 21 month governor? It is far too early to tell whether she is any good at it. There have been some astonishingly bad governors and presidents, and true you never know for certain how well someone will do. However, you can make a damn good guess who will not be good based on how they carry themselves, how articulate, and how thoughtful (i don't mean being nice but rather actually think). Palin's obviously apparent lack of general knowledge of the world is both telling and alarming.

Dirtbag, I think I'm finally getting it, it takes this gal awhile sometimes.
It doesn't matter who is in office....the bashing will continue.....forever and for whatever reason.
So much for "the voice of reason."
My philosophy, "betta to build up than to tear down." : )

Lynne, you do not represent the sole voice of reason.

Never said I was dirtbag :D The quotes around the phrase are meant to show I was using it in a literary sense. Enjoy your day. I'm off to work. Lynne

Actually I would rather see Palin run in 2012, than a real, viable candidate.

I support and respect President Obama and will for the next four years. I don't buy into that "Not MYYYYY President!" bullcrap. He is OUR president, WE voted for him, and for us to get anything done we all need to accept that.

IMO
Lynne is right in that the election is over so we need to talk about building now.
Lynne is wrong if she is saying Gov. Palin is no longer an important topic. We came that close to accepting a president who does not know Africa is a continent. Something is wrong here and we need to know what that is - if we are ever to fix it.

I second Jaybro's motion - we need to be four square behind Sarah for 2012. She's our gal!

This is a great time to reflect on the near miss that was Palin's VP candidacy. We really dodged a disaster on that one.
John McCain is definitely #1 to blame for this. The lack of vetting was appalling.
Reading about the Obama campaign's views on McCains prospective VEEP picks by McCain, they had considered Palin to be a possible pick early on but threw her out early on figuring she wouldn't survive the vetting process. What caught Obama's team by surprise is that McCain didn't really do any vetting, so they were unprepared for her nomination.

McCain really seems to have lost control of his campaign after he clinched the nomination. I feel like the GOP leaders came to him and basically said that he was gonna have to get on their program if he was gonna get their support (it should have been the other way around).
