From Allie..daughter of OUCH!,

I don't climb (or apparently sleep anymore) but I definitely have some skills in cooking, serving, and general conversation! It would be a real pleasure to meet some of you that knew my dad on ST...

O.K. Here's what I've come up with so far, with some input from Mighty Hiker and Ghost. Thanks guys. I've discussed this some with the owners of Angelo's, the restaurant that I work in. We can use their banquet room and overflow into the restaurant if needed. The room can seat about 35. Since the Holidays are really busy for us, the room is booked until January. That's fine since I'll be really busy too. Angelo's and I will donate the food and the room, but all drinks will have to be purchased at the premises. I can get a discount on bulk wine but that's it. You can't bring your own booze unless it is an unopened bottle of wine, sorry but that's the law. It was suggested that I charge a nominal fee of say twenty bucks to help defray costs. I could do that , but I originally planned on covering food costs, so I would donate any monies collected to the Ouch Memorial Fund. How to collect said monies is the question. We can figure that out later. What I need from anyone that wants to come is a commitment of some kind. Anyone that can give me a for sure or an i'm almost sure should send me an email. Put, "Ouch" in the subject line. I can give a more concrete date soon, but now it looks like early january. I realize some of you have regular jobs and would probably like to do it on a weekend night but that isn't practical for me since i work in the place on the weekends. A sunday night or a weekday night would make it a hell of a lot easier for me. So send me those emails and I can get a better idea of what I've gotten myself into. Cheers, Wayno.

Edit-- oh yeah, the menu. That kinda depends on how many commit. It will be sit down , plated with probably one entree, veg and a starch and some appetizers Anybody with diet restrictions put that in your email.

I'm quite interested in attending, assuming the date works. A Sunday evening, or even during the week, are OK for me. I may drag Tami and hubby with me. A Sunday night may be slightly better for most out-of-Seattleites, but you can never please everyone.

$20/person sounds fine, assuming that will fill us up. We could add a bit to cover the cost for any members of Ouch!'s family who can attend. Perhaps we should even have someone tell stories or show pictures? "Back in the days when p'terodactyls nested..."

I like a no host bar, as presumably that's how the owner can make some money on the night. Bringing one's own always seems a bit tacky, and most of us have outgrown such economies.

Evening, Gents. and ladies
It would be easy to do a Sunday and even an earlier brunch type thing might be more to peoples liking. I can put out chafing dishes and trays of buffet items or I can do a sit down. It doesn't matter to me. Buffets seem more suited for mingling with larger groups. Smaller groups do fine with a sit down.
Some people like to bring a special bottle of wine to share. That's O.K. Wine people are like that. I'll help enjoy a fine wine.
Angelo's is a casual family owned and operated establishment. Nothing fancy like the places downtown, just really good food and service, relaxed atmosphere and loyal customers. Excellent selection of Italian wines. I think we have one or two domestics.

Edit-- Tami and her hubby better come. ANY of youse guys could and should come. I think Yerian will show.

I'm intrigued by the possibilities! I'm in Seattle as well (north Seattle), and would enjoy the chance to meet other STers. Tom.

Alright, so I got to pick up Peter Mayfield last nite from the airport. Good times talking with him about old times and new. Showed me a great DVD of of when he was working with the bandasomethings. You know the cliff dancers. Dropped him off at his training class this morning and now he's on his flight back to cali. i hadn't seen him in 20 yrs. Took him by the skatepark so he could tell Brandon all about. I hope it doesn't take 20 more before we see each other again.

So what about dinner? Steve Grossman, you out there? If no one wants to I'm heading over to find Wayno myself.

Are people getting antsy? Can't wait till January? Should we try for a Sunday sooner? I can do a small thing(20 or so) at my place on a Monday or Tuesday. Carne Asada and beer. On tap even. Just pipe in. Post here or send me an email.

I haven't seen Peter in over twenty years also. Glad you got hook up. It's always cool to run into people you haven't seen in a while, especially if you like them.

You might have, but at this point, I'm not committed to anything concrete. Check out my previous posts on this thread and you'll get an idea of what I'm thinking about. I just want it to be fun, so I'm not going to get too complicated during this stressful time of year.

hi!

don't want to disturb your thread but hope I may use this opportunity to ask you local seattle climbers some important questions.
I'm going to move from Munich (Germany) to Seattle by end of december.
1.Where would be the perfect neighborhood for a passionate climber that also appreciates the advantages of urban life?
(e.g. be close to a good! =technically challenging gym)
2. What would be a good location for partying new years eve?
